Stubborn Disbeliever - double standards indeed! I know what it is like living with adults that are drunkards, does not leave happy memories. I confronted someone in the KH before I stopped going and told them to get secular help and pointed out how serious it was scripturally, I was instantly shunned by members of their family, even though behind their back they were all talking about it, no-one had the cahoonas to help them.

Why Does The Watchtower Dis-fellowshiping For Smoking and Not Gluttony and Alcoholism?
by ÁrbolesdeArabia inhealth care studies are showing obese body weight index is worse than smoking "death sticks", so how is the tower going to address their growing problem of overweight elders and elderettes?
if a organization is able to disfellowship a member for smoking, why not do the same with other vices and crutches their people use to hide stress, emotional disorders and depression?
employers are asking for a bmi test a their potential employees to create a diet to get healthy.

Welcome back, I feel for you, being in such a difficult situation. You are having a tough time. Do you have any hobbies or interests you can expand and make new friends? Venting on here helps, but real interaction is good also.

Disfellowshipping question for X or Current Elders
by tresdecu ini know somebody who got disfellowshipped...they decided to appeal.
how long does the appeal process usually take?
do they ever get overturned?
-
happy@last
Unless they can prove they were perhaps mentally ill, or some other extenuating circumstance, for using the 'corn'. that was not mentioned in the first JC, they won't have it overturned. The appeal committee's job is to see if the first decision was correct, it is not to hear the JC all over again and have a second one.

New here, well, sort of...
by L3G inbeen lurking here for years but finally decided to come out, at least partially.
of all things, the post of 'bats in the belfry' re: the supposed break up of gb member geoffrey jackson and his cute (ex-?
) fiancee a few days ago spurred me to do so.

so now what?
by Kaltas1 ini don't really know what to say i'm a bit nervous.
but i am new here and i want to say thank you all for these forums and the many contributions people have made.. for about 9 months i been frequenting here and other places on the net while i have undergone an in depth bible analysis.
after finding that my bible is not consistant with the more favorable options of translating greek words especially in key doctinal areas, i have concluded the great unlikelyhood of jehovah's witnesses having god's blessing and approval.. not just that though.

Could my wife be awakening???
by nolongerconfused inso i have followed all of your advise as far as not talking religion, just showing love etc.... she has missed the last 3 meetings and i have not said anything like "are you going?
" etc.... she's a born in/active and our relationship has gotten so much better after i faded completely...no guilt trip/pressure about preparing for meetings as a family, service, etc.... tuesday was a huge sign for me...she has meetings tuesday nights and she was planning on going, but, her coworker called her offering 2 tickets to go see our local baseball mlb team and guess what?....she told me lets go!!!
i was like wtf?...in my mind i was like wow, you're gonna miss your 3rd meeting in a row!

Great news, looks like she's thinking of life outside the borg. As has already been said, let her work it out herself, and remember she might feel a bit of guilt towards them, assure her of your love.

How many ways....
by Lady Lee in... can you name that the wts hurts people?.
two big ones for me:.
it pushes people to the edge and when they commit suicide they say: "well he wasn't really a jw anyways soit has nothing to do with us".. it pushes people so much to do more and more and more that they get depressed, and physically sick.

It protects the pedophile and not the victim.

been a while, it has
by chickpea insoooo i fired up the interwebs to come looking for the date of the memorial, as a dear friend who stood by me through those crazy and sadly wasted years in dub-dumb mentioned she had seen a still faithful member at the library... she said he invited her to "the world wide memorial" .... and i was pretty sure that there had been a full moon yada yada and the memorial had come and gone.... .
i ended up coming back here to verify and realized she must have been asked to that lame ass event where "the same talk is given from every platform" and ooooh how fired up can you be about virtually nothing?
anyway, nice to see the place is still rockin' and that there is a continuity of personnel (that means old timers!
