Do you think Jesus WANTED to be turned into a religion?
by humbled instuff that has happened to me and people of other religions that i've met and read about--it makes me wonder if the caretakers of "holy writings" haven't bent us with their theology and pedantry.. i don't think jesus wanted us to make a religion.. he offered an experience of faith that was first and foremost an invitation.
the gospels--even if half diluted with error can't dispel the experiences we feel if we accept these words at face value: john 7:17-18.. i can't stay on- going to doctors today.. thanks.
maeve.

Remember you believe he had the means to end poverty then and there.
I don't think anyone believes that. Jesus wasn't on Earth to do that.

31 things each and every Jehovah's Witness NEEDS TO KNOW right now!!
by Terry inthings for jehovah's witnesses to think hard about.. .
1.you cannot change what you refuse to confront.. look at how you are feeling most of the time.
that sense of going nowhere and feeling down is not because you aren't spritual enough.

The Time is More Important than Results
by OnTheWayOut inon my way in to work this morning (saturday), at 6:05 am on a commercial business street in chicago, i saw two sisters and a brother bundled up in winter clothes and doing "street work.
" it wasn't that cold, so i guess they started even earlier when they needed their scarf and gloves.
there was absolutely nobody else walking and all the businesses were closed.

Coincidence?
by Blttex insince i started actually reading the bible about three years ago i have found the similarities between the pharisees and the society to be amazing.
tell me your thoughts on this example or others you've come across.
(acts 4:13-20) when they saw the courage of peter and john and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with jesus.

I wouldn't call the basic WT-Pharisee similarity in and of itself a coincidence, just a similarity. What's an interesting coincidence is that the Witnesses are not only Pharisaical, but quasi-Judaic in their beliefs, nearly rejecting the Messiah in order to emphasize YHWH, and emphasizing works over faith and "undeserved kindness" over grace.

Is this true? Do the elders really do it like this?
by Julia Orwell ini put this week's wt paragraph about disfellowshipping on my fb page and said how poor robert's family didn't even check to see whether he was dead or alive in 16 years and a friend of mine of the 'conscious class' commented about how unchristian she felt disfellowshipping to this degree is, and i agreed.. another friend, and uber-jw who has a host of illnesses and yet pioneers, who everytime she and her husband go to another congregation, if he's not appointed within three years they move to another and try for an appointment there - he used to be an elder and no one is willing to promote him again- replied to my thread.
now keep in mind she has a dfd son and she doesn't even know whether he is dead or alive, because she follows the wt to the tee.
she replied, among other things, with this:.

@talesin: Aha, thanks for explaining. Sad to hear that that older brother must have been unhappy with the machine he was a part of, but wasn't able to find a way out. I heard that an old friend of mine who has always been an upstanding Witness recently stepped down from being an elder, and I'll probably never know why, but perhaps something was bothering his conscience. Oh, "Apognophos" means "away from the darkness", loosely. When I was a true believer, but feeling despondent over my situation, I used to post on the Internet as Gnophos. So now that I've learned TTATT and am trying to move towards a happier life, I'm leaving the spiritual and emotional darkness :-)

Do the Governing Body members ever go Door-to-Door?
by 00DAD inin his book, in search of christian freedom, ray franz wrote that that gb members for the most part never participated in door-to-door work.
they were "too busy with more important things.
" (gee, how come that excuse wouldn't work for the rest of us?

Wow, that was long but it held my interest. It's strange that someone can act in such conflicted and self-destructive ways.
