Well, yes, that's the obvious answer, but the Society never seems to talk about Rutherford these days, not in the way that they used to dote on Russell as this honest student of the Bible who started publishing the Watchtower, whenever they fawned over their own "rich spiritual heritage". When did they last even mention Rutherford by name in the literature?
So my point was that I feel lke they're attempting to avoid tying their origins to another single man to avoid future difficulties or embarrassment or ad hominem attacks against Rutherford. Which places the Witness in a weird place when he's asked where his religion came from.

Thank you for bringing this up, I've been thinking about this -- how it will affect the Witnesses -- for some time. Now, doesn't the WTS teach that an eighth king is supposed to follow the Anglo-American world power for a brief time? They've taught in the past that this is the UN, but I can't help but wonder if they are going to reveal some new light to the effect that China is the last king, to buy some time for themselves. Especially since China is a "godless" country, there might be a basis for insinuating that this last king will bring the great tribulation.

First the master appoints his slave over his domestics (the other slaves, basically), then when he returns, he appoints the slave over ALL his belongings as a reward for his faithful service. The former event happened (according to the WT) in 1919, the latter will happen at the GT.
i believe we may all be surprized at the final outcome of this case.... as you may already know, arnold schwarzennegar appointed robert mcguiness as superior court judge in 2005. mcguinness is the judge in the candace conti case.. it is widely known that arnold scharzennegar is a high-ranking freemason with direct ties to the rothschild family (primary shareholders of the watchtower corporation).
judge robert mcguinness comes from a family of powerful and influential irish freemasons who also enjoy strong ties to the rothschild family.. so this could go south very quickly for candace in the next few days.... .

it amazed me how incredibly credulous i was as a witness- i would never have watched a video so full of "lies" had i still been in.. or maybe i'm willing to believe anything now..... for those that have seen it- how convinced were you with the comparisons between jesus and the zodiac?.

More on topic, Adamah is right: Zeitgeist masquerades as something deep, but it's a load of bollocks. I'd recommend not watching it at all, because the few bits that may be factual are drowned in a lot of confusing statements and it would take a lot of dredging to separate one from the other. Better to just buy some good books instead. Anything religious made for TV or film seems to be too sensationalized.

I grew up in the eighties, and I still experienced the persecution propaganda. My secondary concern was probably whether I could withstand the torture, and my main concern was being cooped up in a railroad car with other Witnesses as prisoners and having to do my business in a corner behind a blanket. It sounds funny now, but it was pretty anxiety-inducing at the time.
On another note, my Halls have always had windows, so let's put the kibosh on the "Kingdom Halls don't have windows" meme, it makes the forum look out of touch.
as i have studied the bible more in depth i have noticed that there is no two tiered set of christians.
as we know the jw religion teaches that only the 144k are anointed as the use romans chapter 8 to try to show that gods holyspirit will mix with an individual's spirit and then they will know their anointed.
all others can be christians so to speak and they would have the rank and file believe this anyway.

Back to the larger topic, though, Witnesses weren't really that attached to Russell anymore anyway -- he goes back to our great-grandparents' generation, after all -- so this doesn't make a big difference to them in sentimental terms. It does help in cleaning up a lot of untidy business in the history of the religion that shows that they were just another group of people making wild guesses. But I wonder how Witnesses of the future will describe the beginning of their religion, when asked:
"Well, it started with Jesus."
"Um, sure, I knew that all of Christianity started with Jesus, but when did your movement start?"
"Well, uh... I guess the early 1900s, 1930s is when we got our name."

Doesn't this quote make more sense with my corrections, and also reverse its meaning? Also, the linked video does not seem to have anything to do with a Prince interview. I'd like to get some clarification from Joliette or from someone else who actually heard Prince speak.
