I was thinking of this subject just this morning, but when I went through the list in my head, they all seemed like very dedicated company men. All I can suggest is that if any of them have a demeanor similar to what I hear Ray Franz was like -- humble and earnest -- then they would be the most likely candidate to have a 'crisis of conscience'. But I'm not sensing those traits from any of them, in what I've seen of their speaking appearances; though I don't have a good handle on Sanderson yet.

OK - I've had it - My letter to the KH
by LisaRose inthe whole time i lived in colorado, i had the dubs come by once and leave a tract.
but since moving to california, they are at my door so often i asked them to put me on the "do not call" list.
this did not stop them, in fact i have asked four times, plus once i called the kingdom hall and left a message, they still come, the last time this past saturday.

Yes, it should probably been shorter, I was a little steamed at the time. I figured no one would read it anyway. I had a lot to say, it was more for me I guess.
Yeah, I can understand that.

So how exactly did this "new translation" come to be?
by sir82 ina normal person, upon hearing that a new (or revised) bible translation has been released, would have 2 questions spring to mind almost immediately:.
1) who did the work, and what are their credentials?.
2) what manuscripts is the work based on?.

hamsterbait: Just to be clear, ass is a synonym for arse. I guess you're in the UK? Well, over here it's impossible to read scriptures about people "riding in on their ass" and not imagine that it says "riding in on their butt" and want to laugh.
slimboyfat: The real question is which New World Bible Translation Committee that sentence is referring to, don't you think?

What has happened to Jehovah's Witnesses???
by DATA-DOG ini know this is old news, but as i sit here, and ponder the upcoming agm, i can't help but think, " what happened?!!
" i actually awoke an hour before my alarm went off, just thinking of everything that is bothering me about the wtbts.
approach this list as a born-in, someone who was told that you were different from everyone else.

Oh God, how long are you people going to bite into this bait? Stop feeding the troll. They took 15 seconds to type something that is now derailing the thread, and they don't care about your answers.

REACTION from my neck of the woods...
by problemaddict inas some of you may know i am in the midst of a fade, working on the family coming along (new thread to update there).
most mf my close friends are still jw's to varying degrees.
i would say most are couples that are around our age (25-35), and they attend maybe 90% of the meetings, go in service on sat, pioneer in april, and have a couple bible studies etc... in general the good kind.

There's always the occasional nutter in the group, I wouldn't judge the majority by the extreme cases. I do know a JW woman with no emotional control or mental filters... who knows it might be the same one!

Why the need for a new font?
by Splash inso with everything else being dissected, i want to know why it's important to have a font that can be copyrighted?.
the font used is very similar to a number of others, like tahoma, ms sans serif, and arial etc, so what benefit is there to employing (in the loose sense of the word) a team in japan to create a brand new western set of glyphs?.
will this help with their prosecution of those who copy/paste nnwt verses?.

Yes, but when he said that, he was just referring to the font itself -- that the old one was not copyrighted.

I agree with Finkelstein that it wold be more effective as an anti-witness if you were to give it to JWs who come calling, than to send it to the KH (i.e., the elders), but then again I think you'd rather just be left alone, so this is probably the best way to get marked down on the territory card as "APOSTATE" However, it's true that the JWs often do not look at the Do Not Calls; we used to put them on the back of the card, and no one would remember to even look there before doing a street.
As to the letter itself, it's well-written, but personally I would pare it down a bit, as eventually it gets a bit overwhelming -- a sort of apostate's laundry list. It might be best to keep it to your personal experiences, like 1975, and the couple of things that you learned later that are most compelling to you personally. But you weren't asking for suggestions, so I'll shut up now

BUM WITNESSES
by The Searcher incan anyone save me the stress of listening to the self-appointed faithful & discreet slave for 3 hours, and give a clue as to roughly at what point in the proceedings was the derogatory term 'bum witnesses used, and by whom?
i'd really love to extract that comment and send it to a weakening witness, to highlight the judgmental arrogance and name-calling being displayed.. many thanks in advance folks!.

A small observation from the AGM...
by sir82 in...but it struck me as significant anyway.. i attended at a jw assembly hall, and was sitting behind a pretty typical jw family.
2 kids about ages 8 & 5, frazzled hen-pecked husband, and....the mom.
the lady of the house.

Great post. I wonder, if we could measure the level of emotional response of the men in the crowd compared to the women, what would we find? Was one gender more excited by the new Bibles than the other? Who are making the ecstatic comments on Facebook?
