Do you sometimes wish there was an iggy button here?
by mrsjones5 inwhen i used to chat on yahoo if someone was annoying or harassing there was an option to ignore that person.
you could still see that the person was in the room but you didn't have to read anything they said.
every once in a while i wish that option was here too.. josie.

THE reason my mother stays a JW
by chrisjoel ingot a call from my mom this morning and she asked me if i had made plans to go to the memorial.....anyways she knows i dont want to be a jw and kind of understands to a point.
they recently had the c.o and some friends over for dinner (as usual) and she said "i made pasta and everyone loved it"... yes thats the reason she loves the jws cause everyone loves her cooking!
she has always recieved praise from anyone coming over for dinner about her cooking and says "if we weren't in the truth you know how bored we would be?

I think you hit it right on. My JW sister also is staying for reasons not related to doctrine. She really doesn't care about any doctrinal errors, date changes, end of the world changes, or any of that. She dismisses their faults easily because she really doesn't want to have to deal with it, though every night she hopes she'll wake up in the new system of things, just as she has since the 1960's. That is her one hope.
She just needs to be part of a social group that accepts her and even admires her as a long time Pioneer. It's the only time in her life that she's had acceptance, so even though the price is high, she closes her eyes to everything else. It's meeting her needs for now.
Probably a lot of the older ones are like that. It's really all they have.

So who here has seen Russels grave? Weird huh?
by oompa ini just found out my 67 year old elder/dad has been there too, with his sister who used to live up that way.
it is freaky-deaky weird/scary.
why the hey would jesus pick a weirdo group that thinks pagan egyptian pyramids (who used to enslave and torture gods people) could give the answer to his second coming....pathetic...................oompa

A book printed by Deseret Books, whether back in 1931 or in 2008, is the work of its author, and he/she is solely responsible for any attempts at doctrinal credence. Deseret Books prints a variety of books that are wonderful, uplifting, doctrinally factual and others that are, at best, merely opinion pieces. The doctrinal value of any Deseret Books publication depends on the ability and intent of the author.
In other words, don't try to say because Deseret Books published something, it must represent the teachings of the Church. Often, it doesn't.

Okay, an update...
Apparently this actually was a Marine who did this. The question is still was it real or faked. Either way, they now know who did it and he's on his way to face military justice. With it being such a huge story, and a huge black eye for the Marines, if the video is real the Marine involved is toast.
The family lives in WA state and have had to change their phone number because of all the death threats.

Exactly right, Barbie. Sick, sick, sick whether real or not, but especially if really done. There have to be people who recognize them. It'll come out, I hope.

by Jim_TX inlast night, while sitting outside - and helping hand out candy to all of the 'treeters who came up, my new mother-in-law was discussing how her sister and husband were going to their church for the fall harvest festival.. i said... "what's that?".
i asked, "do they wear costumes?".

Our church does this every year, complete with a great spook alley. It's open to the public. The idea is to give the kids a safe place to come party, do trick or treating (classroom to classroom and car trunk to car trunk) in a safe environment where no kids will get kidnapped and nobody will get razor blades or other harmful things in their candy. The local hospital thanked the churches doing this so that the hospital x-ray isn't tied up all night checking out bags of candy from kids who went house to house.
A sad commentary on our modern world.

Are they sure these guys actually were soldiers? If this was a fake, why couldn't their uniforms also be faked? Even if they actually did such a horrible thing, they still could be faking being in the military. It's easy to do.
And no, soldiers are not serial killers. My two sons have been in Iraq a total of four times with a fifth deployment just announced. Guess what? Neither of them has ever killed anyone. Most soldiers don't.
If this video was real, they will be recognized by people who won't be amused. It can't be soon enough.

Women: Do you pray in presence of men?
by outofthebox indo you still find it difficult to pray for the family, let's say, if your husband or another man is present?
do you still feel uncomfortable to do it?.
-ootb.

Wow, I never thought about this before. So tell me how it should go, please. My JW sister, a Pioneer, comes to visit us non-JWs, and when asked if she will say the prayer on the meal, she does. She has never done the hankie on the head bit, nor said anything about that it should be a man saying it. Her husband, a non-JW who attended with her, was present as was my husband, also non-JW.
So, in that setting, what should she have done to be a proper JW? Oh, and in the prayer, she never says "Jehovah" but only Heavenly Father.
Is this off the mark for how it should be?

Iran - to Stone To Death 2 Sisters
by Rabbit inhttp://snafu-ed.blogspot.com/2008/02/iranian-sisters-to-be-stoned-to-death.html.
this is not a 'muslim bashing' thread.
it is a perfect example why old words, found in caves, written by someone you don't know...in a desert far, far away can be dangerous.. turkey, a 98% muslim country is a secular country.

Didn't Great Britain just pass a law legalizing sharia law in marriage cases among the muslim community?
