Great post Noontide. I can totally relate to how you are feeling. I am getting sick and tired of trying to find my 'real' mum, the person she should be. I cant even remember the last time she hugged me. Even if she did, it would feel so very awkward. I can say I dont love mine either. Wow.

Inaccurate hours recorded
by snare&racket inignoring the fact that all but the super jw's had a random stab at hours done in the ministry, with all the different activities the society said counted as ministry hours, just how accurate is there annual report?.
what activities do you know of that were allowed to be counted as ministry time?
here are some i knew of.... .

In our congo you counted time if you went on service with an unbaptized person. Time on the min, and then time 'encouraging' the non dunked. Twas easy time!

Suggestions for car buying
by FlyingHighNow inif you were a lady and you were 55 and had $5,000 or less to spend on a used car, what would buy?
top concerns: good mpg; reliable; in not having major issues like ball joints breaking, timing belts breaking, etc.
not too expensive to maintain.

Take a mechanic who knows his stuff. Cars that were contract hire or leased to companies can have higher mileage but have been looked after mechanically as they need to stay on the road to earn the money.
We always buy our fleet vans at 3 years old and ex lease. Full service history is more important than mileage. Ask to see all reciepts and history of work done. If there isnt any, walk. We also get more money back at trade in with service history.
Stay away from the low mileage shopping cart as these will be bunged up with carbon and crud. My F in law just bought a low miles Ford from an old lady, he's just needed to spend £1100 on a new turbo and injection manifold. The car was 4 years old. fwiw!

My NWT 2013
by BluesBrother inwoo hoo .
at the meeting last week i was handed a new silver-grey deluxe bible nwt 2013. after months of them being a drooled over item only enjoyed by the elite, now they were handing them out wholesale.. i have to say that it is a handsome volume with its silver page edges, twin page marker and flexible cover .
i am not ungrateful and i say thank you watchtower since they did not ask any money and will not get a contribution.. what do i think of it ?

! Tim 6 v 4. Terming it "obsessed with arguments" makes it easier for a jw to stop any open dialogue. Eg saying to an apostate "you're just obsessed with arguing" is less confrontational and cultish than saying " I cant talk to you, you're mentally diseased".
I think the new term is very cleverly thought out, and even more damaging. Once a jw gets used to this new rendering, they will use it more to stop an apostate in their tracks..

Is my mind still controlled???.....Is yours????
by KateWild inwe are all set for a lovely xmas week and nice holiday, but this image is indellably printed in my brain and i cannot erase it.. .
it's from the bible teach book, chapter 16 para 11. i did that many bible studies and trained them how we need to make a stand for true worship and not ever return to pagan practices.. so now over this season of good will, and fun i have a literal bitter taste.. are you having flash backs?
how can we remove these images from our brain?

Your mind will have remnants of mind control for years Kate. We've been out 6 years now, and still when we hear certain words it causes word association flashbacks.
One exercise we have tried is to fire quick phrases at each other. Like: "Field".....the other person may answer "Service". Or say "circuit". The other person has to say something other than "overseer".
The idea being to change the word association that the borg uses to keep your mind enslaved. They call it the pure language. Its not. Its anesthetic for the real you.
Have a guilt free Xmas day Kate. GA

Believing It All EXCEPT...
by Ding ini used to think that loyal jws bought into the wt teachings 100%.. that's certainly what the gb wants and expects and demands.. but then i encountered some jws who believe it all except for the opposition to higher education.. they think the gb is wrong about that, so all of the children are college educated.. others seem to believe it all but quietly celebrate family birthdays and various holidays.. these aren't people who are fading; they just ignore a few wt teachings that they don't like (despite the risks of being disciplined).. have you seen similar examples of active jws who are doing all the wt-approved stuff except for specific areas where they just ignore what the gb says is required?.

A young elder lives near us and has 3 very young kids. He celebrates their birthdays as a special day with presents and treats. He doesnt believe its a biblical command not to.

"How can girls guard against temptation in this sex-crazy world?"
by Apognophos inthis is from the questions from readers in the 12/15/61 watchtower.
i present it unabridged and without comment.
your own comments, however, are welcome.. "when a girl reaches the age of puberty or physical maturity, her body has developed in the matter of sex more than in the mind.

The BEST way to "wake up" a JW
by Phizzy inwe have debated this over many years and in many threads, as all of us have family and/or former friends still in.
it seems that there is no "best" way to wake up a jw, it is as elusive as the "true" religion it seems.. but a comment made by poster "emery" on another thread stood out to me, he/she said :.
"what i have gathered is that most witnesses seem to be in it for emotional reasons.

Legacy and Crazy Guy: bang on with those observations!
They fit my mother perfectly. 2 wayward kids to look after with a bitter batterer husband to divorce, she was ripe for the picking.
Along comes a pioneer sister who helps her at every turn, even lending a hand to discipline us boys, in fact running my mums life for her. My mum must have thought she was in heaven with all the physical and emotional support. After the divorce, this pioneer sister even saw it fit to fix her up with a bethel returnee!
No wonder she clings onto the " only religion that truely helps people" idea. She is impervious to anything I say, or even try to discuss. In the event I bring something up, she rewards me with the cold shoulder for months.
2014. This is the year I am going to see my mum for who she really is. She can try and shun me all she likes, i'm in her face from now on!

If You Were Still "In The Truth" What Type of Life Would You Have?
by minimus indo you think you would be just going thru the motions?
would you be an elder, ms, or pioneer?.
i think there are many that stay in the religion simply because of family/friends considerations.
