What Was The Effect of You Knowing Hypocritical JW's?

(1) did it cause you to leave sooner than you might have, otherwise.. (2) it didn't bother you enough to do anything about it.

hey, we are all imperfect.. (3) did you want to prove you were better than they, and nothing they could do or say, was going to stumble you.. (4) they stumbled me, probably as much i stumbled them.

None of the options given. I am a live and let live type person. Even when I was a JW. As long as they didn't come step on my toes I couldn't care less what or who they got up to.

Unfortunately there have been a couple of occasions when they did step on my toes. I wasn't perfect as a teen JW, but I didn't exactly cross lines either especially with people of the other sex. Yet I did have some people who to cover up their own doings tried to shift the attention of the elders and everyone else onto me. Let's just say it didn't end well for them :)

What major WTBTS change(s) do you predict for 2014?

what major wtbts change(s) do you predict for 2014 to celebrate the 100th year anniversary of the wtbts's 1914 prediction?.

after posting to what's in it for them?

(gb), i started to think what major change(s) could the wtbts make to thin the flock and cleanse the congregations of social jws who do not donate or go to meetings.. my premise is that the wtbts is a business, a dangerous cult, and that its printing operations are losing money.

it seems the finland branch has taken over the work from estonia, latvia and lithuania (see http://www.jw.org/en/jehovahs-witnesses/offices/finland/).

just trawled a round a few next-gen jw's back in my old neck of the woods up in scotland - kids of my gen really.

couple of things stood out:.

1 - some serious fb'ers in there - 800+ friends on one of them.

This is the hilarious thing that happened in my country: A couple of years ago they "finally" caught up with social media. Everyone was in there. At least anyone below age 40 that I know in the congregation I grew up with.

6 months later. All disappeared. And I reall mean all.

I then found out recently on YouTube a recording of an assembly talk in the area where my family lives, where they were condemning the use of social media, well not openly condemning it, but basically telling the parents to take a tight leash on their kids....and the date was around the same time all of those I knew disappeared. I guess kids were forced and adults had to "give the example".

The only one who were left were kids who got out of the WTS, and adults who I know were DF'd and of course I befriended them all :D In fact was great to catch up with friends I had grown up with but didn't speak to in almost 20 years.

What gives you away as a (former) JW?

these days my jw past stay safely under wraps from nearly everyone.. i dont dig it up- and i see no need to talk about it with anyone.. sometimes i feel as if my past is a large and terrible secret, and i will be found out eventually.

people can sense i am different.

i never talk about my family.. i guess people chalk it up to being a private person or let me be a mystery.. however, there is one thing that i feel completely reveals me as having been raised a jehovahs witness:.

I'm always very open about my past, if it comes up, but I tell you how I have spotted other ex JWs.

Usually they are more profound people. Especially ex-JWs. I'll give you an example but I have been in similar circumstances many times: years ago I took a sabbatical and went travelling around the world for most of a year. I joined my now husband in the country he was with his friend and a group of travellers they met along the way. There was 5 of them. All crazy as heck. There was a guy though, who would often get into deep and philosophical conversations about anything but particularly theology. He's actually the one who out of all I've stayed the most in contact with on FB at least. Last year close to 12/12/12 (end of the world palava) we got into a conversation on FB. Then months later I put some post on my FB abt JWs and he said: it's this the group you were talking about months ago. Guess what? I used to be one too.

I said to him I wasn't surprised of his confession. He always striked me to be a really bright and profound guy by that I mean people when they don't just comply with every and anything but instead move with more awareness. The kind of way that people get when they discover TTATT.

What Do You Read?

as a jw, i read all the publications and tried to understand all "theocratic" watchtower policy.. i read 3 newspapers a day and rarely read a book or magazine, other than wt.

stuff.. i read the bible a number of times and still find it a good read.. i love to read the internet news as well as the cherished drudge report.. what's your favorite read??.

By age 4 I knew my book of bible stories by heart and I think I had enough of hearing those stories over and over although I apparently loved David & Goliath's story so after that I was blessed that my mother encouraged me to read all the youngsters classics: Louise M. Alcott, Jules Verne, Hemigway, Mark Twain etc.

Then I went through an obsessing period with Wilbur Smith's novels, I picked one at the library....(oh the days when you still went to a library to rent a book :D) and then devoured all the rest of his books...still enjoy them nowdays but it's more of a rarity for me to pick one.

As an adult I prefer more biographies & non-fiction. Currently reading: the power of habit and eagerly expecting the release of David & Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants by my fave author Malcolm Gladwell.

Sooo years have passed but I haven't changed much, always love me a bit of underdog fighting ;)

"was cleaning the windows" ...that should have been the sign.

When he introduced himself as a JW I bet he was getting ready to invite you to the KH this coming Sunday and meet more kind and loving people like him.

How sad that he doesn't recognise that he's probably a nice person regardless of whom he represents.

Are JWs more negative than normal people?

100% feel the same. Had a big blow a couple of years back with my mother via SMS. I told her to stop watching 100 news shows all day long. That's constant negativity that added with the WTS propaganda just makes her miserable. So I told her to watch 1 news show per day and that's it. I have not heard her whining about the system in the past 2 years. Don't know if it's because she watches only one or because she finally got it that I'm not interested in hearing negative stuff. Either way it's a win :D

Now...my grandmother (my dad's mom also a JW)? It's all another pair of sleeves...she was born miserable, and some people just don't know how to be happy.
