I am so sorry.
Wishing you strength and consolation at this most difficult time.
Rest in Peace dear Oliver.
If It Should Be
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
An pain should keep me from my sleep
Then you must do what must be done
For this, the last battle, cannot be won.You will be sad, I understand
Don't let your grief then stay your hand.
For this day, more than the rest
Your love and friendship stand the test. We've had so many happy years
What is to come can hold no fears
Would not want me to suffer so
When the time comes please let me go.Take me where my needs they'll tend
Only, stay with me to the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.I know in time you will see
It is a kindness you do to me
Although my tail its last has waved
From pain and suffering I have been saved.Don't grieve it should be you
Who has to decide this thing to do
We've been so close we two these years
Don't let your heart hold any tears. So I am glad, not that she's gone
But that this earth she roamed and lived upon
Was my earth, too, that I had closely known
And loved her and that my love I'd shown.Tears over her departure?
Nay - a smile
That I had walked with her a little while.Author - unknown

I consider myself more in line with the Constitution Party. But I can't vote that way until the U.S.A. goes to Instant Runoff Voting - which it never will because it is not in the best 'interest' of the two major parties.
Had there been Instant Runoff Voting back in '92, Clinton would not have been elected President with just 41% of the popular vote.

Questions For Those That Entered the Armed Forces After Practicing JWism
by R.F. inwith having so many close to me serve in the armed forces, it only helps me appreciate even more those that serve in them.
i've had 7 uncles and a grandfather serve in the u.s. army, another grandfather in the u.s. navy, my late brother-in-law served for 6 years in the air force right on up to his death earlier this year, and my father also served in the air force in his pre-jw days.. even while being a very devout jw, i still had the utmost respect and appreciation for those serving.
from what i understand after chatting with many of you is that some among us on jwd have entered the military after leaving the religion.

Dinosaurs! How were they explained (away)?
by DeusMauzzim indinosaurs are a bit of an embarrassment for the watchtower.
what did you hear about them?.
- were they a 'creative' experiment by god?.

As I recall, when I was 'studying' in the mid 1960's, I rationalized dinosaurs, along with help from the Borg as; the dinosaurs were to keep the forest cover pruned until man could expand the 'garden', the dinosaurs were destroyed in The Flood, and their 'remains' are part of present day fossil fuel deposits.....

Yep, points on the go side are overwhelming.
Far better to visit with those you wish to, as the occasions arise, while they are still alive and then pass on the funerals.
Long story short that is not relevant here, but, spent two weeks with my Dad, then he died unexpectedly three months later. All contingencies added up to my not going to his funeral. I knew in my heart it was correct not to attend his funeral; and that was confirmed by several of his sisters and brothers the following year at the family reunion - they had understood why I was not there.
Big lesson learned for me - do it while they (the grannies) are alive, while they can appreciate and enjoy the visit with you.

And 'garybuss', what you do at the grave markers is really quite important.
When Bud and I married in ' 74, he took me to the cemetery and showed me the 'family plot' where his Dad, an infant sister, a todler sister, and a 12 year old sister are burried. The sisters had small vertical stone markers and Dad's was metal and set horizontally on the ground. Then when his Mom died in ' 81, it was thought that his Dad did not have a marker. But I remembered seeing it in ' 74 and trying to figure his Dad's age at death and how old Bud was when his Dad died. I insisted that it was there and sure enough, after a bit of probing, they found Dad's bronze horizontal marker all grown over with a very healthy turf of grass.
Thanks garybuss for your dedication and kindness,
Judy

Hubby (Bud) and I will again attend the Memorial Day ceremony at Greenwood Cemetery here in River Falls, WI, put on by the local VFW post. Supporting the VFW is the RF High School Band, and local Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. We have attended this ceremony every year since I read Crisis of Conscience - Feb.'02. Before we married he attended every year.
The ceremony is very moving and militarally formal, complet with a fly-over! The local 'rendition' of Taps at the close is especially heart wrenching; the bugler at the flag stand and then an 'echoing' bugler out of sight, on a rise almost a quarter of a mile away. The effect is marvelously eerie and very, very sad. The thoughs expressed from the podeum emphasize the blessings of life as enjoyed in the U.S., how hard fought was it's founding and idealism, and how important it's defence has been and still is. In all it is a wonderful tribute to all who have served and especially to those who have fallen in combat and to their famlies.
