Apocryphal Jewish Tradition in the New Testament
by Leolaia inthe nt frequently refers to people and events of the ot, but time and again these references include details and assumptions that do not occur in the original ot narratives.
but these same elements are found, time and again, in extrabiblical jewish tradition.
taken together, we see that the nt writers drew on popular tradition and haggadah on the ot texts and thus preserved traces of these ancient expansions of biblical stories in their own writings.

Leolaia,
but I'm not sure if it is worth the effort if there is otherwise no interest for the info......I was really into ziggurats myself in my youth, and so the Ladder of Jacob story was of interest to me as well.
It's well worth it. I've enjoyed every one of your posts (plus Pete's posts, and plenty of other peoples)
Thanks for all of them, please don't give stop on account of lack of interest.

GermanJW,
I will surely order it. But I would have appreciated a chapter about Henschel & the current guys.
Me, too. Although Henschel wasn't all that interesting, as far as I could tell. The title of the book is a bit odd, as it implies there never were more than 4. (Technically, Charles Taze Russell was the Second President, and Henschel would have been the 6th, since Russell had actually founded the Society but had first appointed another man as President before him.) Know -You/ Jokes and why I am leaving this board.
by seven006 init is with a sad heart that i am rolling on the floor and laughing my ass off.
for those who have read know you's many threads where he played a jw apostate basher and fooled many of you/us it's now time to hand his ass back to him with a pretty pink bow on it.
in his last thread i tried to find out if he was an impostor trying to mimic our old friend you know aka robert.

Special thanks to the Daves for all this entertainment. I'm actually surprised it worked so well. For a while I thought you (seven) were getting help from others who were "purposely" misreading that slippery K.Y.

Making 607 crumble
by ellderwho induring my eight month long study with "elder bob" (moms husband) we have batted around many subjects to say the least.
but the one that really stands out is the dreaded date of 607 bc.
im sorry i just will not let up with this date, and him having to prove it can stand.

CityFan seems to have scholar's modus operandi:
Scholar posts an assertion without any facts to back him up.
CHECK: scholar says: "There is abundant secular and biblical evidence in support of 607 as a calcuable and credible date for the Fall of Jerusalem."
Someone will then ask him to prove his assertion.
CHECK: City Fan says: "Once again, for the record, name ONE piece of secular evidence to support 607."
He then wants you to post evidence for your arguments before he will answer your question.
CHECK: scholar says: "I challenge you to provide secular and biblical evidence for 586 or 587 and I do not want round about computation but direct evidence for either of those years marking in your opinion the Fall of Jerusalem."
You post evidence for your arguments which Scholar then refutes without backing up his arguments with evidence.
Hopefully, he'll break his pattern now that the sham is up.
You then ask him again to prove his assertion.
It's a big word game with scholar. He uses every typical form of ad hominem, fallacious and specious reasoning, various diversions -- and then pretends we can't remember his 100% failure rate.
He then refuses because he says he hasn't had a satisfactory answer to his question!
I guess I should have let this one play out. Now that he's exposed again, he might have reason to change his tactics somewhat. But you are so right City Fan, this is so typical when the facts get too tough for him.
And this goes on and on and on. I've seen the same thing happen on too many threads. The best way to disprove 607 is to print off any thread where Scholar gets involved.
Absolutely true. Just click on scholar and then his Post History. You'll find 15 pages of posts so far wherein his incredible lack of scholarship and lack of honesty is displayed clearly in the majority of his 280-some-odd posts to date. The Society deserves people like him.

elderwho,
Glad to hear it. I think that 607 is one of the best ways to get a lot of JWs to realize they are not what they think they are. Some JWs are willing to discuss it because they don't realize, all at once, just how devastating 607 is to most of the JWs unique doctrines. Without 607 they lose not just 1914, but 1918, 1919, the "first" resurrection, the authority of the faithful and discreet slave, the myopic and self-congratulatory prophetic fulfillments, the other sheep/great crowd time split, the special kingdom message, etc. Sure, they get to keep Arius, George Storrs (no hellfire) and Pacificism, but this is not likely enough to look down on all other religions as worthy of slaughter by their almighty god of war.
When you see how much the JWs really have to lose without 607, you see why scared Society's sycophants like scholar resort to plain old-fashioned dishonesty, every single time.

Randy Watters was there (so was I) and Randy has a nice site that includes some nice articles explaining it well.
The very best source for most is Ray Franz' book Crisis of Conscience because he was an eyewitness to the events at the highest possible levels.
Go to www.freeminds.org and type 1980 into the search box. It should come up with some nice articles like the following. The first link is Randy's eyewitness account to what happened:
1. What Happened at the World Headquarters of Jehovah's Witnesses in the Spring of..1980.
4. part IV, Spiritual Food at the Proper Time, 1974 - 2000
6. Watchtower: The Critical Years
12. Governing Body Home Page (Jehovahs Witnesses)
26. Apostasy Knocks At Bethel's Door (Watchtower)
34. Randall's Scrapbook from Bethel

Do you hang out with your buddy, or study? Would you rather go to the beach, or preach?
Sounds like a Jesse Jackson, wannabe.
Would you rather go the Mall, or to the Hall?
Would you rather be a Playa', or study Isaiah?
Listen to the GB, or get VD?

Movement to 'Draft" Hillary
by Guest 77 insome months ago i heard that hillary will be drafted as president at the democratic convention.
well, this is no longer a rumor.
on the hannity & colmes show last night, foxnews, this 'rumor' was confirmed to be true.. the reason for the public silence (not told on the show) but by the rumor mill, is to keep hillary on a low profile, not to create a public stir.

rocketman,
Rumor has it that Hillary Clinton and Hillary_Step are one and the same. There's just the minor matter of one's being female and one being male. Minor detail.
Which?
