Dagney -Did Noah get those snakes on the boat so Moses could write about a talking snake, [a TALKING SNAKE!!], hundreds of years later?
Lol... snake, evil, sin, hatred, murder....there are many forms to this thing.

god told eve that if she ate from the tree of knowledge she would die that very same day.
in response to that statement the devil told her she would not die.. eve ate from the tree and did not die.

Joey -If there was open and free access to the "tree fo life", which granted immortality, as there was to the "tree of knowledge" - how was the serpent to know god would restrict access to it so that adam and eve couldnt live forever after they ate the fruit.
Because the snake was present when God gave Adam and Eve his instructions regarding all trees, Joey.
We know this because it was the snake himself who revealed that he was listening to God when he initiated the conversation with Eve..."did God really say...?"
So you are correct, Adam and Eve could eat from the tree of life forever and ever, something the snake KNEW. Clearly, it was the mechanism thru which God would keep them alive since God immediately restricted Adam and Eve from going near it after eating from the wrong tree.
The serpent told adam and eve exactly what would occur- if they ate from the tree of knowledge - they would know good and bad. That happened and it was confirmed by god in Gen 3: 22.
As with Simon, I agree completely with you here. But you are referring here to what the snake said after the lie. And that lie was,
"you will not die".

Jeffro-It sure is funny (and quite pitiful) that there are people who believe that this unoriginal and nonsensical story is actually true. And the people who just accept that it’s all true with no evidence are generally the same people who expect ‘nonbelievers’ to explain complex scientific processes in detail in multiple fields. But they just make up trite excuses for primitive and obviously wrong folklore.
I think it's a good question that nicolaou asked.

Nicolaou -If everlasting life really had been in store for Adam and Eve don't you think it would've been the first thing God would've told them they'd forfeited after eating the fruit?
This is certainly reasonable to think. However, this specific detail doesn't alter what was said nor what happened.

Simon - No, he said this is what would happen and it's exactly the same as what god says did happen.
Again, I'm in complete agreement here. God himself, as you pointed out, corroborated this truth regarding their sudden comprehension of good and evil.
And again, nothing in "eating the fruit" would / should have killer her. God decided to murder her for his own failure to prepare and protect them.
Protect them from who? The 'truthful' snake?

Would it be reasonable of you to label as a liar the medical researcher who promised you four decades earlier that your mother would “not die”? After all, your aged mother is indeed now dead.
A doctor wouldn't say that, nicolaou. 'extend her life' perhaps.

Simon - The snake spoke the truth - that they would become like god and able to recognize good and evil and god confirmed this later saying "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil.
Here you are pointing to what the snake said after the lie. He's good at this as you can see.
But let's go back to the lie.
Genesis states that the snake asked Eve to repeat what God had warned. Interestingly, in her response Eve didn't say when exactly she would die if she ate from the wrong tree. She simply stated "....lest you die". Perhaps she forgot the exact words.
Whatever the case, here immediately the snake responds with "you will not die".

Ty nicolaou for bringing the conversation here.
So according to Genesis, who told the first lie? God told Eve that if she ate from the Tree of Knowledge she would die that very same day. In response to that statement the Devil told her she would not die.
However, Genesis doesn't state that the snake responded to that statement/warning made by God.
The snake doesn't ask God to corroborate him either after providing Eve with 'clarity' as to when exactly she would die.
The snake simply stated "you will not die".
A very skillful move, it turns out.
big news.
just in from a friend who is fading.. disfellowshipping will no longer be a term used by jws.
study article 35, paragraph 4 footnote says this:.
Nicolaou -The most important of those statements was a direct response to God's warning not to eat the forbidden fruit. God said; “because on the day you eat from it, you will die!” Satan’s response? “You won’t die.” Genesis 3:4 CEB
So who was telling the truth? Did Eve die on the day she ate from the tree of knowledge? No. The Devil had told the truth, God had lied.
Nicolaou, are you sure?
What did the devil say again? "You won't die".
Eve died. So who was the liar?

study article 35, paragraph 4 footnote says this:.
Joey -Did the devil know that God would prevent Adam and Eve from taking fruit from the tree of life and continue living? If he didnt, he didnt lie.
The answer to this question is, yes.
The snake knew God would prevent Adam and Eve from reaching out to the tree of life for the simple reason that he was present when God warned Adam. We know this because it was the snake that initiated the conversation.."did God really say..?..."
The snake understood it was the tree of knowledge that was prohibited, not the tree of life. The snake knew that eating from the tree of life is what would keep Adam alive, while ceasing to eat its fruit signified death.
Therefore, the snake lied.
