Touchofgrey -Love was not the fundamental thing that caused our solar system to come into existence, but rather the collapse of a star....
And what was responsible for the star?
rowan williams, the former archbishop of canterbury gave an interesting answer to the somewhat stark question, what’s the point of us existing?
as a christian, my starting point is that we exist because the most fundamental form of activity, energy, call it what you like, that is there, is love.
that is, it’s a willingness that the other should be.

Before anything was manifest and no 'other' to manifest to, did God's very existence have evidence?
In other words, can God exist only in His own mind? Yes he can.

I came to believe that He being complete in himself and happy wanted others to be as well. Why that purpose was disrupted by confict and pain, I don't know, and can accept that perhaps we never will.
Because love, by definition, cannot be forced. The choice to reciprocate God's love is embedded.
i’m still an elder and i consider myself jw light.
as my fellow elders are.
we don’t throw our weight around like elders used to in the past, it’s all very easy going these days.
Magnum- How could one even give the impression of supporting such? How could one contribute to the continuing existence of such? It is no "light" matter to me.
Because the peace of God is real. The scriptures are the first to tell you how deteriorated the state of man is, and that it will just get worse. Peace in our hearts is not derived from this world (likely we can all agree on that) nor from within ourselves (altho many bravely try). Peace is a gift from God, according to scriptures. And a peaceful heart gives way to the contentment which you refer to above and puzzles you.
Elderberry mentioned something that I too have observed after several years of commuting with folks of different Christian religions. That it doesn't take much for them to just let go and be content with their circumstances, accepting that a higher power is in control.
It wasn't entirely surprising to see JW making changes and relaxing things, in essence becoming more similar to other Christian religions that aren't so uptight about meaningless things.
Christ said "not much is needed, if maybe only one thing ". It would make sense that even just a little faith (in God, not man who is inferior and confused) could allow for his peace to calm our hearts enough.
beans ?
( human beans ).
to those of you that believe in god: do you all believe the same thing ?.
The Greek word (AKRIDES) locusts, and (EGKRIDES) cakes are very similar in sound and spelling making it an easy mistake to make. Therefore, IMO it is more probable that the Gospel of the Ebionites preserves the original reading.
Thanks for the clarification.

The 'locust' thing is a scribal error. (Greek 'Locust' and 'Cake' are very similar)
An error because they're similar?
But--seriously. to those of you that believe in God: do you all believe the same thing?
No, that has been the challenge of man...to agree on what God is. God has limited to expressing some of what he thinks. He doesn't bother to tell us what he eats for example.
And he seems to have intentionally kept other things very much a secret. Like how inanimate matter becomes a living breathing, thinking human being.

—colossians 1:15 from the nwt says it plain as day: “he is the image of the invisible god, the firstborn of all creation.” that’s not vague; it’s got a punch.
“firstborn” and “creation” sit side by side, and in greek, that second word is “ktisis,” which means the physical stuff—trees, stars, you name it.
If his heart is right, no. The evidence of that is if that person continues to grow by the leadings of the Holy Spirit. But can a person believe Jesus is the Son of God and still have a heart "not right before God"? That's the question here. That would be a tragedy I'm sure you would agree.
So the heart seems to take precedence then.
1st John -
"15Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him, and he in God."
According to the same John of the gospel, as long as I confess the above then God will remain in me.
and what is confessing mean? John himself answers in the same chapter-
"2By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; 3and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God."
If I believe both of the above til I die, unlike Simon Magnus, is my heart right?

Seabreeze-we are saved by grace through faith, shouldn't we be sure we have faith in the right Jesus to forgive sins? What if a person has faith in the wrong Jesus? Like a Jesus the Mormons invented? Or, the angelic Jesus Russell invented? Or, maybe a person has faith in a church or their good works. Will that save a person?
What if a person reads this and walks away agreeing with Peter?
15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.
God would condemn this person but save Peter?
we get old because jehovah had to prove to all the angels that his way of ruling was the best?
that's the sorriest argument the watchtower has come up with.

elderberry- everyone agrees they are a bit like Adam and Eve just have to figure things out for themselves. a bit like the rest of humanity in that we only understand a fraction of the Bible and if there is a God then what was his purpose. Whoever wrote Genesis what did they want the readers to think?
Genesis describes God as the creator of all things including the rules by which all things will exist. It establishes God as the superior being and man as inferior, created for the purpose of praising and submitting to God. From the very get go in Genesis, God's actions will reveal how you feel about this.

Seabreez- @SlimBoyFat: Are you still rejecting the new covenant "for the forgiveness of sins" Jesus offered in Mt. 26: 27-28 ? If so, then you have no basis for salvation what so ever. This is what is driving your rejection of the tri-partite nature of man, and by extension the deity of Christ.
Seabreeze I believe you are well intentioned. However, there's nothing in the scriptures that state that if we reject the tripartite nature of man it means we lose salvation.
Sloppyjoe made a good argument that we could interpret the scriptures as stating that Jesus is the same as God, or that Jesus is the son of God (below God).
If by chance we misunderstood this one thing (believing that the word 'son' means son), but placed faith in everything else wholeheartedly...we would still be condemned to hell?
