Have the JW's cracked down on social gatherings more than once? My recollections are from the 60's..

Have you ever been on a congregation picnic?
by LostintheFog1999 inwere you ever on a congregation picnic?
i was on several occasions.. the arrangements were often announced from the platform after the closing song and prayer by the last elder up on the platform.. sometimes it was included in the service meeting announcements as "on saturday we're meeting at 10.00am at the kingdom hall for field service, and after field service for anyone who wishes, especially for the younger ones, we will be having a congregation picnic meeting at the beach carpark on seaview road.".
well, according to the new elders manual you won't be hearing those words again.

Seems to be a census on vaccine status
by Indoubtbigtime inthe upcoming km school for all elders and servants is going to be in person only with no provision for video conferencing.. only fully vaccinated may attend.
meaning if you missed your last booster you are no longer fully vaccinated.. every coordinator of body of elders has to ask every single ms and elder if they have kept up with all their boosters and are fully vaccinated or they can’t attend.. this seems to be a census the gb want to know how many are keeping up with booster shots.

Do you know how many papers have been published on the isolation and resultant WGS data?

How to reason with friends
by peacefulpete inwe have long time friends who are seriously involved with the urantia book.
they have regular meetings with others and seem to have become convinced of its alien inspiration.
it seems mostly harmless but weirds out anyone who talks to them.. do any of you have experience with this or have suggestions about how to debunk the book?.

Have you read the late Martin Gardner's rebuttal/debunking of The Urantia Papers?
--Not sure if it would do any good with true believers

Viruses Killed The Woolly Mammoths.
by LostintheFog1999 ini can remember the original turquoise coloured evolution book produced by the organisation and the numerous public talks around it.
mind-blowing to a gullible youngster growing up in a jw family.. the flood of noah's day when thousands of tons of suspended water fell from the atmosphere and on hitting the cold poles instantly plunged the woolly mammoths into a deep freeze, to the extent that the last mouthful of grass was still there in the mouth in mid-chomp.
you can quickly see why a kid with a fertile imagination was transfixed by those apparently up-to-date scientific discoveries as presented by the wt org!.

The "frozen animals" studied by Вектор include the woolly mammoth, woolly rhino and several others.
The inference seems to be that the presence of the virus means the animal in question died from it.

The last paper I read blamed extinction on a scarcity of vegetation during the glacial-interglacial transition.

Clever Misdirection
by TD ini was looking at the (mostly) wrong answers to a riddle that's making the rounds on social media and thought it was a good example of how something simple (in this case, grade school math) can be distorted with words.
the riddle goes like this:.
i bought a cow for $800.. i sold it for $1000.

The second one I didn’t try to get to terms with, seems more tricky.
If the manager had said, "Okay. The three customers ended up paying $9 each. You have $2 and I have $25" it wouldn't be any fun at all.

drinking wine in the Kingdom
by enoughisenough insomething jumped out at me that i never paid attention to while reading further into matt 26...in vs 28, he tells them his blood is to be poured out for the many for forgiveness of sin.
but note vs 29 but i say to you: i will no menas drink again any of this product of the vine until that day when i drink it new with you in the kingdom of my father.
cross reference luke 22:18 for i tell you , from now on, i will not drink again from the product of the vine until the kingdom of god comes.. what is the point of all of this: matt 26:29 " i drink it new with you " mark 14:25 " drink new in the kingdom of god.

Wine has never been considered Chametz.
--Not trying to be argumentative. I'm just a guy who lives in a climate comparable to Palestine, who grows grapes and makes half-way decent wine sometimes.
It takes pasteurization, glass bottles, and refrigeration (After the bottle is opened) to prevent fermentation. Otherwise, the window for unfermented grape juice is pretty narrow.

The JW's are correct in pointing out that Passover in Palestine is 6 to 7 months after the grape harvest in a climate comparable to Tucson, Arizona.
The SDA's might not approve of wine, but it tastes a helluva lot better than vinegar

What sort of a message? Did it originate from a legitimate source, (Like Google's password manager, for example) or was it a random pop-up?
