wow!

i longed for the day when the last of the anointed remnant was on his/her death bed and all of the witnesses awaited to be swept away into the new system.. who knew that they could just, with one stroke of "new light" change everything and do away with this hope/doctrine.

how many times did i preach it from door to door and misrepresent god and the bible!

The thing is, the Bible says the spirit knows, and the person knows, but it says nothing at all about a group of men knowing, or having the authority to decide who is or who is not, "anointed."

Nor does the Bible give any group of men the authority to un-anoint anyone, or declare that someone is not of the anointed. Recent WT articles have tried mightily to convince some who feel they are of the anointed to renounce their anointing.

This is blasphemous, since the Society has no authority whatsoever to stand in the place of the holy spirit.

I really wonder why it is that the holy spirit has to give this organization its truth piecemeal and in zigzag fashion, coming back and contradicting itself from time to time. That is not the pattern set in the Bible. What kind of spiritual paradise is it when people who disagree with any aspect of the Society's teaching are threatened with spiritual death, especially when the Society disagrees with itself over time.

For example, much was made in Sunday's WT Study about our "correct" understanding of the Superior Authorities. If I had given that interpretation of it when I came into the truth, I would have been disfellowshiped! Back then, the Superior Authorities were Jehovah and Christ, and woe to anyone who said otherwise. Now the holy spirit has revealed the truth to us finally. Surprisingly enough, Christendom had that "truth" long before we did.

Of course, our "correct" understanding came from Jehovah, while Christendom's came from Satan, no doubt......

I Couldn't Take Heaven Away...

i have a real problem when i meet people who are sure they are going to heaven.

the problem being that i have no authority to talk them out of it.

according to the new testament, only "the spirit" can determine who goes to heaven, not me nor any organization of men.. we say that only 144,000 go to heaven, but the bible does not say that.

We say that only 144,000 go to heaven, but the Bible does not say that. Not even in the two verses in Revelation that mention the 144,000. Those verses nowhere say, 'these are the only ones going to heaven.' That is an interpretation Witnesses make. But I couldn't take heaven away from anyone, merely based on an assumption.

Nor are we in any position to say who the 144,000 are. Only God knows that. He is under no more obligation to accept our "anointed" than He is to accept anyone else's "anointed." If Christendom's millions are not anointed, what proof do we have that ours are?

This whole teaching of only 144,000 going to heaven is one of our weakest links. It cannot be proven by the Scriptures.

We just don't know the meaning of those words, otherwise we would not use them.

Also, without them, we would have no doctrine at all.....

Is Jesus a true God or a false God?

What does the Bible say?

The Bible says Jesus is a god. (John 1:1; 1:18)

Jesus said his Father is the Only True God. (John 17:3)

Therefore, if we believe what the Bible and Jesus say, then:

(1) Jesus is a true god.

(2) Jehovah, the Father, is the only true God -- with the capital "G".

Don't accuse Jehovah's Witnesses of saying that Jehovah is the only true God. That's what Jesus said. He should know.

Preaching Work Complete!!! or is it?

in 1989, we as jw's distributed and studdied many articles in the watchtower.

i remember one study article in particular that indicated that the preaching work would end by the end of the 20th century.

when the year 2000 came around, i searched bound volumes and the watchtower cd, but couldn't find the statement.

Since the time between the original and the bound volumes is short, there must have been second thoughts about the statement early, perhaps while it was being used in the WT Study.

But the Society will never stop the preaching work, even though there is clear evidence in the NT that not all Christians were "evangelizers." If they stopped it, they would have nothing to keep us in line with. Nothing to give us the superior attitude of preaching something that has never been preached before.

Talk about reinventing the wheel. The Gospel did not wait for Jehovah's Witnesses to come along before it was preached! Were it not for Catholic Bible scholars and the King James Version of 1611, we would not even have the name, "Jehovah."

Obviously, the reason Armageddon hasn't come yet is because we haven't preached enough! "Preach! Preach!" Otherwise, says the Evil Slave, "my master is delaying"! Keep on beating the flock to do more, more, MORE! (Matthew 24:48, 49) Which Slave does the Society prove itself to be???

Jehovah shows that He doesn't care about the ruminations of the Watchtower Society, simply by refusing to bless their time tables and "prophetic" mutterings.

"Acknowledge Jesus as Lord" (Ministry School book)

the borg takes a new tack in the concluding chapter of the new "benefit from theocratic ministry school" textbook.. a chapter entitled "the message we preach" has a section on........jesus!

The whole organization took a wrong turn with Rutherford. We should have remained "Bible Students" or just "Christians." To go back to the Old Testament to grab "Jehovah's Witnesses" as a name was ridiculous. The Jews were "Jehovah's Witnesses" (Isaiah 43:10-12) but never used it as a title for their religious organization. After God sent his Son, Jesus said his followers would be "witnesses of me" (Acts 1:8), but not even then were they called "Jesus' Witnesses." They were called Christians, and that by Divine appointment, according to the Witness Bible. (Acts 11:26)

Jehovah did not change the name to "Jehovah's Witnesses." Rutherford did, and that without any authority whatsoever.

But in so doing, Rutherford set up a works-based religion that is short on true love and loving acts of Christlike service. Now, serving God means only one thing: preaching. Nothing else really matters among "Jehovah's Witnesses."

reading accounts from contemporary first and second century christians indicates that it was the example of christians, not the preaching by all, that primarily drew nonbelievers to christianity.. it is significant that the instructions to preach that are in the new testament are addressed to "elders" and "overseers" like timothy.

It is significant that the instructions to preach that are in the New Testament are addressed to "elders" and "overseers" like Timothy. Preaching done by anyone else was "informal witnessing" at best. There is no indication of any organized, formal, day-by-day or week-by-week preaching done by Joe and Mary Christian. Most of the instruction in the New Testament is about conduct, not about preaching. Not one book in the New Testament reads like Our Kingdom Ministry publication. No preaching instructions, no sample presentations, no campaigns, no quotas, no encouragements to "auxiliary pioneer" or "regular pioneer."

Finally, when the New Testament does mention evangelizers in the Church -- literally, "preachers of good news" -- it says specifically that God gave "some as evangelizers," just as He gave some as apostles, prophets, shepherds and teachers. Not all in the Church did those things; some did. Jehovah's Witnesses try to interpret the "evangelizers" mentioned here as missionaries, but that's not what the word means. "Evangelizers" means preachers of good news, and Ephesians 4:11 makes it plain that some Christians, not all Christians, did this. The context of Paul's writings indicates that the some who had the responsibility to preach were the elders and overseers.

having been a jw for 15yrs i have just recently began to question some of their beliefs.

one of the lines of reasoning i have always used in connection with the earthly hope was that the ancient hebrew prophets had no concept of a heavenly hope and so they had salvation with-out being born again.

Me, too, minimus! There is no provision in the New Testament for mere "observers" at the Memorial.

This "two hopes" thing is a very weak doctrine, indeed.

i have been reading your posts at work.

i have been studing with the witnesses for about a year this last time.

i have almost completed the knowledge book.

Never joining in the first place is a lot easier than leaving once you have decided to become a Witness. It is really a shame, but there is no freedom in this place except to believe everything that comes from the Tower. Not even the least bit of disagreement is tolerated. Honest differences of opinion are not tolerated. You have to accept the whole kit and caboodle, or nothing. Disagree once you get in, and you are likely to be branded as disloyal and worthy of spiritual death. You will be marked, ostracized, expelled in ignominity.

It's a shame because it does not have to be like that. Once the Watch Tower had the lofty mission of restoring first century Christianity. Well, the record of first century Christianity is in the Bible book of Acts. Read it. Then compare those Christians in Acts with Jehovah's Witnesses. They are not the same at all. The Witnesses are just another man-made religious organization, and the men they are following today are very totalitarian, self-righteous and Pharisaic.

Too bad. Flee while you can, without tragic consequences.
