  Is monogamy realistic?

  do you believe that humans are capable of complete sexual monogamy?.

  i believe 100% emotional monogamy is obtainable, but i'm not sure about sexual monogamy.

  does gender figure into the equation?

  Does gender figure into the equation? Sometimes.

  Are women or men least likely to remain sexually faithful to their partner, and why? Men. Hormones.

  Does sexual orientation figure into the equation? If men are more likely not to remain monogamous, is it that much harder for two gay men to maintain a sexually monogomous relationship? It varies (I guess)

  As I've stated above I do believe in the concept of emotional monogamy, ie being in and staying in love with the same person for life. Interesting hypothesis. Many things are humanly possible. It's possible to live on chef salad, but who'd want to? I'd think a better question would be: is it likely for the average person?

  I posed this question to a group of people in my book club and received responses that varied greatly. One woman in the group agreed with my view that sexual monogamy was not a realistic goal, while one of the men in the group basically told me I was full of shit. I'm not looking for moral judgements but for your thoughts on the concept.

  It does not surprise me that you would get varied answers to your questions since people are different. Even when the same person answers, life situations change, different viewpoints develop while others become obsolete. There are no absolute, one-size-fits-all answers to questions like this.

  Jehovah through his "faithful and discreet slave" now states to us, "Let us seek out apostates in our territory and deal scripturally with them ." That becomes our organization instructions and has the same binding force on us that his statement to the Logos had when he said, "Let us make man in our image." It is our duty to accept this instruction and obey it.

  Maybe I missed it, but wouldn't such a fanciful suggestion from the GB require dubs to break Caesar's law?

  Where Do I Go Now? Is There An Answer??

  with all the problems in the 'truth' and all the things that we know are wrong with it there seems to be aspects of their theology (i.e the sequences of the world powers, statue in daniel, the promise of world restoration again found in daniel) that to me still make sense.

  although i cannot follow a religion that believes in the destruction of all humanity barring those that respond to their own preaching work i still believe in a creator and cannot accept the teachings of other religions that have no purpose for the earth and believe that mankinds only destiny is in heaven.

  my mind keeps telling me that if god was behind a religion it would be so much better than that of the jws.

  The Truth About Ozziepost and Prisca

  yesterday i had a great time with mr and mrs ozziepost, prisca and dr and mrs loss.

  we met at drloss's home and it was really like we had known each other for years.

  strangest part was that we all seemed to know the same people (either in or out of the borg).

  Nowhere near as judgmental as before.

  Dubs tend to categorize (stereotype) everyone on earth... fellow dubs and everyone else, too. All of these categories help define for the Witness where an associate/family member/workmate stands with respect to the org and what their standing MIGHT be with the right approach.

  Inside the organization you have:

  Spiritually Strong, Spiritually Weak, Newly Acquainted, Studying, Interested, Marked, Disfellowshipped, Disassociated, Worldly, and lower than pond scum, not fit to spit on and unworthy even of capitalization ... <whispering> evil-ass apostates.

  This is not to mention all the titular designations: Governing Body <the ground trembles>, District Overseer, Circuit Overseer, Elder, Bethelite, Regular Pioneer, Auxiliary Pioneer, Publisher, and Approved Associate.

  I'm sure I missed some (been outta touch for a while), but you get my point. Nowadays, I enjoy the immense freedom of treating people as individuals, without them having to labor under all the baggage I once laid on them or having to prove anything to me. It's a very good way to live.

  the approach of ex-jehovah's witnesses towards those still witnesses has been debated since the problem first occurred.

  personally i joined the ranks of ex-witnesses in 1988 and found myself more or less thrown into the fray appearing in media like newspapers, radio and tv.

  one of the first things i noticed was the interest bestowed upon me from competing churches, particularly from the pentecostalism camp.

  I particular I want to stress that I am thus not on a ?mission? to the Witnesses. If an adult person want to become and/or remain a Jehovah's Witness that?s perfectly all right with me, I couldn?t care less. If anyone don?t like me or my style of presenting information, it will be their problem, not mine, I am me, take it or leave it, frankly I don?t care.

  I understand. I have no doubt that you have helped some with your methods and approach. By 'helped' I mean led others (either dubs still in or people who never were) to adopt a more fleshed-out understanding of the JW religion.

  My comment was not necessarily directed towards you or meant as an indictment of you or the words you might have used in the past to describe truths relative to the JW movement. I only meant to say that it's my view that to 'help' those who might be offended by 'blunt truth,' another tactic might be better used.

  Sorry if you took offense. None was meant.

  Ah, yes, I remember it well. Mine are 24 and 26 now. Savor every moment, Teejay. It passes more quickly than you can imagine.

  Too bad. I see that time already, when she's a teen and not as close to me as before, wanting to hang out with her friends and not her dad anymore. I know that time is coming, so I'm enjoying every moment of the here and now. You can believe that.

  I hope you're taking plenty of photos and videos -- because they grow up so quickly.

  Lots of both. A camcorder was high on my list when we found that my wife was pregnant, so I have video of her moving in her mother's womb, going to the hospital the night before she came, the equipment readouts in the birthing room on the day of her arrival, etc, etc, etc., on up until a few days ago when she chased me in the backyard with a water hose. I have video of people like her maternal grandmother who have since passed, video of her grandmother holding her and talking to her when she was only an infant. I will make copies to give to my daughter, when the time comes.

  On the way to work the other day I heard that adults laugh only 10 to 15 times a day. Well, they need to hang out with a 2yr old. That would fix that!

  I'm with you, waiting. I always meant to write a thank-you and a buddy and I even planned on a visit to GA to offer our thanks in person, but it never happened. So, if you're reading, Ray, thank you. I owe you, big time.

  I'm glad you enjoyed my tribute to fatherhood. She's only two, but I'm trying to keep her as small as I can for as long as I can. I never refuse to pick her up whenever she wants it... I find it hard refusing her anything that is in my power to give her, now that I think about it. She *IS* an awesome responsibility, but more than that, a privilege, the absolute light of my life. I am awfully glad that she is here.

  Yes, You Know, since becoming a father I can more deeply understand the role in ways that were a mystery for me for years, whether it's god or a fellow human father whose acts and motives I'm trying to understand.

  It also enforces my disbelief that an all-powerful, all-loving father would for centuries stand idly by while his children suffered the slightest injury, to teach them "something." Or how such a being could ever bring the sort of mayhem and destruction on the beloved family of his making that I once believed that Jehovah would bring at Armageddon. The whole idea has become even more preposterous to me since the birth of my daughter.

  I'm not mad that YOU believe it, though. Keep swinging, YK. Keep swinging.
