What Should People Know About Jehovah's Witnesses

a couple of very basic questions for you good folks.. 1)imagine that you are joe public who has never had any real contact with jehovah's witnesses.

none of your family are, or your friends.

you occasionally say "not interested" to them on saturday mornings.

Wow, you guys have some dissin' comebacks!!! (For those of you who dont understand, I meant they had good replies lol)

I think if I was worldly (which I was born into the Org), I would imagine I celebrated all holidays from birth, had no objections to blood transfusions, etc. I guess if I heard they didnt celebrate holidays, denied blood transfusions and shunned family members for wrongdoing.. that would freak me out. Sad thing is though, it was fed to me as a child and it made sense then!

The second question, I think, was asked to non jws, right? If so, I would say that every person going in should know they have a chance of being shunned for their mistakes, they may have to die for their beliefs and how much is expected of them (monthly field service, talks, etc.)

A question I can't answer...

my soon to be mother-in-law, asked me a question that i can't find an answer to.

we were talking about my life as a jehovah's witness, and how i don't hate my late father for raising me as one.

more importantly how i don't blame him but rather blame the religion for my aweful childhood.. her question is, "was there anything i enjoyed about being a jehovah's witness?

I guess I miss 'belonging'. If I went back, did all the right things, I would be embraced for awhile..but for how long? Until I wasnt the new kid anymore?

I thought I had true friends in the Hall..but I found out quickly they didnt care too much about me. I guess I miss the feeling that we were all a big family. Even though they proved to me that I really wasn't. It was the ideal I carried though, that I miss.

It is painful to realize you were grasping onto dreams and wishes...reality hits hard when you see what your 'family' turned out to be.

My heart breaks for that poor man. I can't imagine trying to save your daughters life and have her, your family, friends, everyone...hate you.

I want to send him a note or something, I dont think I could find out his name or address though!

since you probably planned ahead of time not to return to the first thread i started, i am reprinting here for your convenience :.

why do you jw's consistently only answer some questions (answers i might add that severely sidestep the issues, or bring something totally irrelevant into the picture), though not others?

do you really think we will just forget about the ones that you conveniently choose not to answer, hoping that we will not notice because of all your rhetoric and jibberish that you include in your answers to other questions?

I think you have made very good points here. I dont think this person will give you answers, but I wanted to let you know I can see you've done some time and thought into this post.

I know when I was a JW, I would've tried to answer your post, but after awhile, would get frustrated and give up. Because really, I wouldnt have had the answers and it would have made me mad, thinking that being a Witness I would be right. *does that make sense? *

You make very good points. I hope to see someone give a good answer.

Man Stuck in Windshield Left to Die

fort worth a judge on friday raised bond to $250,000 for a nurse's aide charged with murder after a homeless man she hit died in her garage with his body lodged in her car's windshield.. chante j. mallard, 25, had been released on $10,000 bail after she was arrested wednesday.

but at a bond hearing friday, prosecutors said that amount was too low.. state district judge james r. wilson raised the amount and said ms. mallard must be under house arrest, wear an electronic monitor, continue counseling, avoid alcohol and undergo drug testing.

the judge also imposed a gag order in the case.. ms. mallard was charged with murder this week in the slaying of gregory glenn biggs, 37, a former fort worth school bus driver whose body was found dumped last october at cobb park on fort worth's south side.. "it truly is one of the most bizarre things i have ever seen," said fort worth police lt. david burgess, a supervisor in the traffic division.

I agree with Tim and Perry.

I totally understand their points... if the woman was white and the man was black I could see the prosecutor saying that even though hitting him was an accident, because he was black, she left him to die like an animal.

I could definitely see it being charged as a hate crime...

This reminds me of a case here in Anchorage:
Three young teenagers wanted to go out on the town and raise hell. They decided to take a paintball gun, drive through downtown, and hit 'derilics'. They were aiming for anyone downtown, but were hoping to hit the drunks (downtown Anchorage has alot of drunks). Anyway, they were stupid enough to videotape the whole darn thing. Many of the drunks were Alaska Natives (Eskimos, Indians, etc.). When the cops pulled the kids over and viewed the tape, the whole things was called a 'hate crime'. The Natives were up in arms, picketing, being interviewed, etc., crying about the horrible racist whites committing this 'hate crime'.

This really made me angry. What made it a 'hate crime'? They wanted to hit 'drunks and derilicts'... because many in this group were Alaskan Native, it was immediately pronounced a 'hate crime'. They never mentioned that 2 out of the several hit were white; one a woman and one a man. So it wasn't a 'hate crime'! A crime, yes, but a hate crime, no. Because of the attention this case got, the judge allowed many Alaskan Natives to sit on the jury and even sat with them discussing the case. I think the boys were treated unfairly... this was a case of young kids making the wrong choice. I dont think they were racist or set out to commit an act of hate against a certain race. I know one of the boys has to do several things after jail, one of them to volunteer time for a Native organization. Sheesh.

Anyway, I see the points being made. I am sure it could be proven that the woman who left the man to die, did indeed have racial problems with white people, especially men. I am sure if it were a black person or a woman or even a wealthy person, the scene would have been different.

Just my take on it!

i've been depressed big time over all the fights, attacks, flame wars, bickering, complaining and what have you that seems to dominate the board these days.. i've just decided that there is no point in my bringing down myself any further and that i don't have anything of value to offer here, especially since it takes as much emotional effort to insulate myself from my friends behaving badly, that i just can't seem to offer much in the way of positive vibes.. i will check back some time (maybe a month or so0 down the road to see if this place has gotten any more mellow and friendly but until then.... hasta la vista and the best of luck to you.

I dont know why everyone gets so upset. Maybe it's because I dont spend alot of time here...

Personally, I ignore threads that look negative or harrassing. Even if I read it and it looks dumb, I just click 'Back' and leave it alone. I never get involved in 'flame wars'.

I like to read posts that help me remember why I dont go back... or maybe even if I did, I would have the help of people here to talk to. I've met great people here.

This board is no different than life.... there are jerks, wise people, immature people, funny people... you just have to surround yourself with the people you like.

I can understand wanting to take a break if this m.b. was causing you headaches or personal pain, but for me it's just a fun place to read other people's opinions on the crazy jw life, or anything else. I guess life is what you make it!

When you leave the borg. Where do most of you go? No, I didnt go nowhere. I went back to life. I have never felt so alive, so appreciated for my own opinions, so capable of making the right choices.

To any other church? NO thank you.

Start your own? Why? To control other people's minds? Why would I need to?

Not to anywhere? Like I said, I felt like I've been nowhere my whole life. I know where I am now.

Do you miss getting together with other christians? Absolutely not. I get together with true Christians every day.. at work, school, the grocery store, parks. Christianity isn't defined by the title you wear, but the way you treat others.

Kids and the JW Religion

i am a divorced exjw with 3 children who live with their jw dad.

they are 16, 13 and 11. i am worried about the fact that they were raised as jw's and are now questioning if they want to make this their life or not.

while that is not a bad thing i am worried because they were immersed in this religion from the time they were born until i left the religion about 3 years ago.

Good questions. I have thought the same thing raising my 7 year old. I came to the conclusion, like the others have posted, that a child brought up in a happy, well adjusted home has every chance of being a great adult, that a jw one would have.

When I think of all of the young people I grew up with (as a jw), here is how they turned out:

1 got into drugs and drinking, has 2 kids with 2 different men, her mother raises both now (takes the kids to meetings).

1 got married to a worldly guy, never loved him, cheated on him and is on her third marriage at 27.

1 married a worldly man, tried to get him into the 'truth', he left her with a baby.

1 elder's son married a worldly girl, got another girl pregnant, has 3 kids at 25.

3 kids in the same family- the oldest boy entered the Army, the 2 other daughters got pregnant and have many kids with different men.

I just described to you young ones I knew in just 2 congregations. There were many more I could tell about , but dont have the time to go on and on.

The point is, I know many kids who were not raised JW, who have wonderful morals, who have an education, who open the doors for old ladies, mow their mother's lawns, etc. My husband is one of them.

Believe me, you dont have to raise your kid a Witness for them to turn out good!
