  Whats the dumbest thing you were counselled for?

  i was once counselled by the elders for watching 'knots landing'....it became widely known in the congregation that me and a few other sisters would rush home from field service to watch our favourite soapie.

  if we missed it, we would ring each other up for an update...or...if we weren't near a tv we would ask someone to put the phone handset on the top of their tv so we could hear it...pathetic huh...but that was all the excitement we could scrounge up in our otherwise dull and uneventful lives.

  one of the elder's wive's conscience got the better of her...and she confessed to her husband..lol.

  Oh.. my ... God! I LOVED Knot's Landing... I miss it so much! Does anyone know if they show repeats somewhere? I was never a fan of any show but that one, it rocked!

  I loved the Love Boat.. it was cool! But I'm sure the Witnesses would not like it.. it had alot of romance and kissy scenes!

  Once when I was 10, some witness kids went to the park with me and handed me a cigarette. I didnt know what to do.. so I blew on it (instead of sucking in) and the girls laughed hysterically. Then I got nervous and handed it back. They got busted later and turned me in as the one who set the whole thing up. Can you imagine we got put before the Judicial Committee? There I sat, my parents, the girls parents, and 4 elders in the Hall. Everyone was looking at me, the 'guilty' one. I tried not to cry.. but kept saying I wasnt even there. The girls would threaten to beat me up in school if I didnt take credit for the whole thing! Finally I wrote a letter to my mom and 'admitted' my guilt.. that I didnt want to smoke but they gave me a cigarette and I didnt even know how to smoke it! For some strange reason that is the only time I wasnt beaten senseless.. I think my folks were happy I confessed and 'repented'. Ugh!!!

  Another time when I was 17 I had a nice black skirt, past knee length. Well I guess it was 'dry clean only' and I machine washed it, and it shrank! I didnt realize this until I put it on in haste to go to the Sunday meeting. I guess it was alot shorter and the slit went pretty high up. An elder sitting behind me called me in the back for a meeting with the elders and told me I better wear more appropriate dresses. I didnt even tell him what happened.. it was no use!

  i often wonder if jw`s on these sites consider them "apostate" especially with regards to many topics?

  do you ignore topics that could possibly test your faith?

  how do you not wonder about your religion with all the information that is available to you now that proves this sekt invalid?

  Beans! My Northern Neighbor .. how ya doin? I havent talked to ya in awhile! As usual, you bring up good points. I think I sounded like Violet a few years ago, but fortunately my conscience wouldnt allow me to make excuses for an organization that has thrown me away like garbage. When I think about how I wasn't even baptized and became pregnant with my son. I was going to meetings regularly and the Witnesses I knew for years shunned me. They wouldnt even look at my beautiful son, like he was something bad. I can remember being told how horrible 'worldly' kids acted.. when I think about that now I laugh, my sisters kids (active jw's) are spoiled brats and my son who doesnt go to meetings is so respectful and kind. I think when you tell your kids that they are better than everyone else because God approves of you more, it is dangerous. I can see how haughty and egotistical some jw kids act. That is something I didnt want to instill in my son.

  Back to the point, yes, every imperfect man makes mistakes, but none claim to be the only 'God-inspired' source of Truth. There is alot of power in those words, and there is no room (or excuse) for error. When you have millions of people looking to you for guidance, a little mistake can be disastrous. Like Ray Franz says in CoC, the brothers should be there to help you become a more mature and spiritual person, not reliant on some organization for answers. The Society invites jw's to lean on them for understanding, not on your own conscience, which is not what the Bible tells us. We are supposed to answer to our own consciences.. but if you did that you would be disfellowshipped.

  I have never had a problem with observing my birthday. Could I be a baptized Witness and observe them? What if I told the elders that it didnt go against my conscience? It wouldnt matter, because the importance with them is not what is morally right, but what is Organizationally right. And that is a jagged little pill to swallow.... so I decided to try life out of the Org and have met more 'kind' and sincere people than I ever have in any Hall. There is good and bad everywhere... to think that the world is scary and evil and the Kingdom Hall is filled with love, rainbows and smiley faces is just plain...... naive.

  Brother now I am stumbled!

  have you ever been so dam hurt from the things done to you in the so called gods organization that you wanted to just set down cry your guts out?.

  i will list a few reasons but basically i feel that my reality has been denied to me as a young man growing up as a jw.. i was not taught to love god, but have excrement scared out of me if i did not do what they said, i too had an over bearing father who seemed to fit right in with jw's mind set.

  i can still hear him now god rest his soul, he would say every morning if he happen to hear garner ted armstrong, honey listen they are robbing from the lords table.

  Thanks for the laughs! Even though they're tears of pain... I can vividly remember sitting through an assembly in Hawaii.. mustve been about 88 degrees with no breeze. I could see the food sitting there for a few hours before lunch (that was when it was potluck.. everyone would bring a dish). Then they realized it was against Food regulations and started providing meals. I also wanted to work the food line.. thought it would be fun. Boy, those jobs got snatched up fast!

  My memories of my youth involve me turning 10. 'Mom, its my birthday!' "NO, its not, Tera. Its your BIRTH DATE. There is a difference!' That was depressing...

  Mommy, what a horrible story! For any child to have to sit in a car for hours is wrong, but a disabled one? Oh my word!

  Am I the Oldest One here??

  today is my birthday, born in 1936. that makes me 66. i can hardly beleive it.

  i'm still in good health but know it's just a short run until something does me in.

  i'm really thankful for the great life i've enjoyed, no real problems that i consider serious.

  My Favourite Smurf

  here he is beer smurf,i got him in 1984 in germany my summer of decission.i was 15 and started drinking hey it`s legal over there at this age.on this day i was drinking beer on the town street a cop walked by and smiled,i thought this is the life how could any religion promote a boring life.

  LOL yea I thought the same thing about Smurfette.. what was the deal? She was the only female???

  I didnt know they had a whole website dedicated to Smurfs... it really doesnt suprise me though!

  Good points indeed. So did 'Judge' Rutherford really only practice as a judge for a short while? I must confess, I don't know a whole lot about him.

  But it's interesting to investigate the implication! Hmmm... I wonder if he did keep the title for prestige?

  Got an earring......

  i first wanted an earring at about age 8, when i saw a movie with pirates.

  a gold hoop in one ear & an eye-patch, man that was way cool!.

  by the time i was old enough to get one, the gay(coming-out) thing was in full bloom & anyone with an earring was considered gay.. next, i get into the borg & you know what thats about.. finally, after all these years, i am wearing my earring, a gold hoop(no pirate eye-patch though), woopie!.

  I remember when earrings were cool.. then it was the gay thing. I was always confused which ear meant you were gay... until my bro in law told me- it was left ear with earring, your straight. Right ear, your not. But nowadays, alot of guys have em in both ears! Maybe that means their bi?

  I also thought the patch and hoops were cool.. I always thought when I was older I would wear a patch and drive a Harley LOL.

  Cool! Is it a stud ... stone.. hoop?
