Why so few XJWs online?

not too long ago, i posted a topic where i pointed out that there are about 1 million xjws alive right now.

that number only represented the disfellowshipped ones... didn't account for those who had become publishers and left or anyone else who got hurt by that group by proxy.

so, why are there so few of them online?

I respectfully disagree that there are few ex-jws online.

Though I don't blame people for moving on with their lives, when I look at the damages that the watchtower actually causes in people's life, I do feel that there is a social responsibility that should not be ignored.

There are many, many different ways of being socially responsible without being a loud activist or having high visibility. Besides, I think that many of us had it with saving the world from something. I am respectful of any way in which every single ex-jw chooses to live afterwards. I provide support and my thoughts, but I am not on a mission to convince or save anyone. I share my thoughts and opinions, but I am in no way interested in showing anyone the light.

the governing body of jws claim without any justification that they alone are holders of a sacred key to divine knowledge and that their history indicates appointment by the almighty creator with the job of giving the world of their privileged information, especially on the time of the biblical “last days.” .

ok they use bible illustrations to explain this with the idea that the “master” has “domestics” who are fed by them but this is always a matter in contention.

they think the illustration is important but can never get a handle on who is who and when it is.

I hope we will see more evidence in the near future of the GB putting on their life-jackets and looking for the lifeboats. And for those still trapped inside, what can you do: stop contributing in any way and feel more free to share your dissatisfaction with your JW friends. Introduce them to critical thinking.

Love your ending, but I hate to tell you that the WT is far from being a sinking ship. Again, they have a real estate business. They are thriving in it, and they aren't going anywhere.

Absolutely. In my opinion, and based on what I have learned reading and meeting professionals in the matter of cults, yes. There are two types of people in cults, especially the ones born in: They grow to become blind followers or a narcissistic personality disorder case, pompous, self-righteous, emotionally abusive a-hole (or bitch).

What finally helped you to peek behind the curtain

i'm interested in finding out what it was that finally enabled you to open your eyes to the real truth of watchtower.

what started me thinking, was the societys very own book...' 'revelation..it's grand climax at hand'.

i found that book farcicle.

Their irresponsible behavior around people who need professional help. The last congregation I belonged to was full of people with all kinds of issues, waiting for magic Jehovah to make them all go away, while getting horrible advice and guidance from the elders.

What have been some of the funniest local needs talks that you have heard?

i remember once in berlin south germany there was a local needs part for the men only, and how they should use the toilet.

in all seriousness for ten minutes a retarded nigerian was going on about how men need to sit down when using the toilet.

no mention of anything else.. it transpired that some little kraut boy from an "interested" family would aim for the side of the toilet and leave a great big puddle for others to clean up.

No poop related stories, but the elders in my congregation were using that time to attack their own children. The local needs talk were about everything that the youth were supposed to be and do, and they were all related of exactly what was happening in the household of the elder giving the talk. Disgusting.

Don't Feel Like I Have Much In Common With Anyone I Know

went out with my family and all they talked about was how terrible trump is and how he'll surely bring the great tribulation.

then they started going on about people supporting trump showing that america is becoming racist.

i don't consider myself a trump supporter but i disagreed that that was the reason why he won.

Regardless of any political view I have, JW_Rogue, it is true that many JWs claim that they aren't part of the world and not involved in politics, but many do have opinions and feel happy when candidates they believe in (and many that I know do believe in candidates) win. Same thing with many other things that are supposed to be "wordly".

The not having things in common with them, I think, may be a larger issue (just my opinion).

Illegally. I don't know how it is now, but I remember the yearbook from, say 1974 where they had a lot of stories about JWs in Nazi Germany, as well as many WT stories from people getting arrested, jailed and prosecuted for preaching. The WT trains people to believe that losing their freedoms and lives over their agenda is a good thing.
