  i noticed a young brother with a beard being given more privelages within our hall.

  when he first grew his beard, he lost his privelages.

  but more and more recently he has been helping out a lot more.. the cobe is old school and a stickler for rules, but with the hall becoming more empty these days, and the need for young brothers, he seems to have relaxed on this particular watchtower/man made rule.

  For some bizarre reason, people constantly neglect to think about all the reasons why a person starts waking up from the JWs. Believing in their teachings is only part of what they have to do. Yes, there are people who find that the WT is full of nonsense after taking a closer objective look at what they said/say, but there are others who lurk around for other reasons.
  

  Many people here and lurking are not here because they found some discrepancy in something they taught/teach. There are a few reasons, other than doctrine related:

  • They feel isolated and shunned in spite of them doing everything they are required to do
  • They face hard decisions involving relationships, career, marriage, health, habits, or mental health, and feel no support from their fellow JWs or the elders
    
  • They have been mistreated by their peers and/or their leadership and are hurt
  • Intervention from a loved one who they cannot say that they distrust
  • Disillusionment with the state of the WT, their congregations or their own situations (i.e., they still do not feel happy, their situation is not better, still addicted, still depressed, still... you get the hang of it)
  • Personality conflicts that may escalate; political infighting
    
  • Boredom (the excitement over "having the truth" is over)
  • Negative media exposure grows their curiosity
  • The wealth of rationalizations finally collapses; cognitive dissonance stops dissonating
    
  • Desperation, they are broke to the bone and their "Jehovah" isn't providing
    

  None of those things have anything to do with believing. In fact, many people here who are very clear about not wanting to be JWs still harbor feelings and some of their believes, even though they cannot remotely entertain the idea of themselves as JWs again.
  

  We might be redundant with some people, but I believe that places like this forum does a lot of great work to people who otherwise may not have any other sources of information.

  Not only I cannot give you a valid, solid, educated and/or reasonable answer, but I can assure you that I would never like living forever with the disgusting JW people I grew surrounded with, up until I became a man.

  think about this new mode(cart work) of keeping the rank & file busy with theocratic/self indoctrinating pursuits instead of door to door work which might put them in more financial jeopardy if one of their congregation's free roaming pedophiles uses this as an opportunity to molest an interested person at the doors.

  i think the watchtower corporation is in some serious doo doo and wants to limit their legal liability as much as fucking possible, if they still have half a brain that is and not suffering from some severe form of dementia(which you never know being that they are suffering from tremendous brain shrinkage being that they are leaders in a fundamentalist mind control cult which prays upon fear and ignorance and most likely missing a lot of cards in their deck if you know what i mean).. i'm thinking if these guys are only half braindead from the bull shit they sign off on to be printed in their publications they must be able to see the tremendous damage financially that the mandatory door to door work for corporate interest poses if some brazen pedophile uses this situation to satisfy some primal urge.

  but you never know these guys on the governing body of la la land must be on some serious meds to be functioning these days so only time will tell..

  a couple years ago we had a speaker, better than average, give the talk.

  since i was still pretty much a believer, i commented to him how i enjoyed the talk, and how it was "entertaining".

  it was, but he got mad as it was one of the beat the fear of god (governing body) into you talks.

  Some people in general (and particularly those who are brainwashed or conditioned to feel the way they are told to) feel uncomfortable accepting a compliment. His reaction may be coming out of his own sense of inadequacy around getting credit for something instead of his Jehovah getting all the credit.
