By the way, I have gone to college myself - and the only "mark" I have is that I hope I am "marked" for survival ........ :-)

A MS would not know that a person is "marked" any more than the person himself would know it, so the starting point is wrong. If the elders think someone is to be "marked", they beforehand have talked repeatedly with the person in question and also a talk might be given for the whole congregation, using the "local post" which is held once every month. If they see no need in giving such a talk but still think the person should be "marked", then that person has been the participent in a number of discussions, and of course would know about it. A MS cannot know something which the person in question does not know, unless an elder privately has said to him (what he ought NOT to do) that in his personal opinion, the person in question ought to be "marked", or the elders as a group have decided that they are to talk with the person in question (and then they no way ought to descuss this with a MS before they talk with the person himself).
So the starting point, the very onset, is bogus, fake, wrong, non-existant.

Does the WT still use Zech.8:23 as a last days prophecy ? In veiw of the fact (evidently) the numbers of converts are decreasing worldwide ?
by smiddy inthis is a scripture that was used a lot during the 70`s & 80`s proving that the end was so close, and it was to culminate in a grand influx before the great tribulation.
" it will be in those days that ten men out of all the languages of the nations will take hold, yes ,they will actually take hold of the skirt of a man who is a jew, saying,"we will go with you people for we have heard that god is with you people.".
when you look at the reality of the situation in this day....,their seems to be a marked decline in worldly converts in christendoms lands.....,mainly baptisms coming from young born ins,..... and certainly no marked increases from either asian, oriental, or other non christian lands, that would seem to indicate another failed prediction/prophecy we can credit to the f&ds class.

I never heard that verse used in connection with growth, only in connection with the great crowd joining the remnant, and that ten would be the symbolic figure for all of them. Isaiah and other verses connected with growth, yes, but not Zech. 8:23.

JW Superstitions
by TOTH inmy folks joined the cult in 1968 if memory serves.

Weird individuals are to be found everywhere. I would not make generalizations based on a few isolated strange utterances, though. When a community is seven million strong and there are perhaps as many "hangarounds" additionally, there are bound to be a "strange one" or two around.

Read a story of child neglect and abuse among JWs in S. Africa that was sent to me.
by AndersonsInfo ini regard the information below as true until proven false because of corresponding with a young man in s. africa for a few years whose story i posted on my website: http://www.watchtowerdocuments.com/stories/caleb.html, "freedom from an unsafe haven, by caleb.
" although some of the accounts of abuse of children in s. africa in the story below are older, calab wrote me details of abusive treatment meted out to young people in his area that he chose not to put in his story for fear he could be identified.
calab in now in university in another part of africa and very happy after breaking the chains that engulfed his mind.. barbara.

Yes oldhippie . . . we know what you're here for.
Oh, yeas, sorry, I forgot - this site is only for those who believe that all rumours and everything manufactures that is 100 % damaging to the JW community is absolutely true and has to be so, because nothing good at all can ever comesfrom the JW community, it just HAS TO BE 100 % evil all the time.
Sorry, I forgot that - I'll never repeat that silly mistake of mine.

Shocking and sad how Andersons and other can believe such nonsense and how they even spread it as "truth".
Most shockingly stupid nonsense letter I ever read, and respect for Andersons just fell some 98 % ...........

Did anything significant happen in 1934?
by Paralipomenon inlooking at the 607/587 bce issue, i was wondering if the bethel could spin some new light to avoid embarassment and buy themselves an extra 25 years or so.. if it was 1935, they could claim that the call to close the doors to heaven was actually the real date of jesus' invisible reign and tie up two embarassments with one flash of light.. best i could find though, nothing really important happended then.
anyone else with better jw historical records think of an "out" for them?.
once 2014 comes, they are in for a major explanation.

"What becomes apparent is a strong negative trend for the Watchtower, as converting Bible Studies into publishers is dropping rapidly. In the early 1970’s, 0.8 Studies and 200 hours resulted in a growth rate around 10%. In the early 1990’s Studies had increased to 1.0 and hours to 220, but the growth rate had fallen to 7%. In the late 2000’s, 1.0 Study and 220 hours only converts to fewer than 3% growth."
Two things make this difficult to analyze: Firstly, that one does not have to be baptised to be a publisher, and therefore many studies start publishing, drop out, may start again, drop out, and so it is extremely difficult to compare baptisms-publishers-growth. One of the biggest branch offices a few years ago stated that 3/4 of the publishers in that country were baptised. Secondly, you would have to find out the age composition of the publishers. In areas with little growth, one would expect an increasing average age and therefore an increasing death rate or increasing rate of publishers ceasing to be publishers because of health/disability reasons. In areas with a bigger growth, average age would decrease and the death rate decrease - but then again drop outs would be not because of age but because of leaving. Continents have huge differences within themselves, too. Africa, as mentioned, with a Moslem North and a Christian centre/South - Europe with a wealthy and predominantly Protestant West/North and a poor and Orthodox East and a in the middle and Catholic South - Asia with Buddhism and Hinduism and Shintoism and China, and therefore with widely different views on life and fate - USA with its different cultures as to Caucasian/Latin/Black cultures etc.
The more one looks at figures like these, the more difficult it is making a meaningfull statement.

What he meant "obviously" would have to be that they appoint them. The branches give them their districts.
