Jayhawk1, it is not contradictory, as you have failed to notice the difference between the so-called "Book of Enoch" and quoting from an other source which contained words spoken by Enoch. Those are two different things.

Book of Enoch
by Moxy insomeone mentioned the jude quotation of the non-canonical book of enoch recently and i noticed the latest wt (9/15/01) article on enoch addressed this.
i also found a 98 reference to this which suggested that enoch was actually written after jude, a stance which they seem to have abondoned.
in fact, the whole thing seems like a very typical post-franz, 'we don't know, ok. stop asking us stupid questions' kind of response.

About Furuli's and Stafford's books
by Liquidizer ini have classified the books by furuli and stafford to the same pile as a. h. mcmillan's book faith on the march.
it's just one way in their trying to have an influence on those people who can't be reached by the ordinary forms of witnessing or to whom the wt literature don't appeal to.
it's sad the wts has to use these kinds of pseudo-scholarly writers or pseudo-objective methods in their trying to advance their interests.

Just how are you being able to call Furuli and Stafford "pseudo-scholarly writers". Are people "pseudo-scholarly" when they agree with the Witnesses, but "scholarly" when they disagree? At which education level do you draw the line between "scholars" and "pseudo-scholars"? -

Matthew 25
by Farkel inwhen did we see you a stranger and receive you hospitably, or naked, and clothe you?
he was talking about food, clothing, shelter and supplication to the least of the brothers.
he could not be talking about anything else and here is why: could any human offer jesus spiritual food?

So that was how deep your faith was rooted, Bluesapphire? If the posters could only stick to the principles discussed, and not post meaningless single events where the poster has not exactly neutral standpoints from the beginning onwards, even being able to read the hearts and minds and feelings of others ............

not too long ago, while i was still under the wt spell i also would have similarily spoken abusively of ray.

Validity of 607 BCE date
by stevieb1 inhas anyone on here ever come across the tiniest shred of evidence supporting this date for the fall of jerusalem.
i understand rolf furuli is about to but something out on this subject (see elihubooks.com), however even a table of contents has been a long time in coming from this site.
if no evidence exists what can he possibly be writing about?
-

Just for the record, Furuli's book (about which information was given too early and inaccurately at Elihu) is not about 607, but deals with the difficulties/impossibilities of adjusting Bible and secular chronologies to each other. It is therefore not a book trying to justify 607.

JW Stumper Questions!!!
by Brutus inif the organization did not actually prophesy the end in 1925 and 1975, then how come so many witnesses left the faith immediately afterwards?
("they lost roughly three-quarters of the movement between 1925 and 1928, then suffered huge losses after 1975, when the end didn't come as they had implied over and over again," said jim penton, an ex-witness who writes entries on jehovah's witnesses for the encyclopedia americana.
if the watchtower organization rejects others calling them "inspired" yet the watchtower organization does call themselves "god's spirit-directed prophet" what is the difference?

Nice, Cygnus, excellent to-the point replies to the questions!
By the way, the one posing the questions tells us Henschel is President; he is not, M. H. Larson is. -

JW Kids Leave the Organization: Facts
by Maximus inthe october 1 watchtower 2001 features articles on training children "properly" and dealing with a "prodigal child.
the latest inside u.s. figures reveal that 86% of jw children leave the fold, with some 29% who eventually come back for reasons of family ties, most never "reaching out.
" that means over half leave permanently.

But if you had found the opposite had been true, that 99.67% of "Witness children" had stayed Witnesses - would not you, and I, then have concluded that the Witnesses are just like any other religion, meaning that there is no personal choice or deliberate action, that one is simply "born into" what is considered "the one and only correct religious faith"?
I would have found myself more concerned and thoughtfull if 99.67 % of "Witness children" remained Witnesses, than if "just" 40 % do so, as the adult rate versus the world population is at 0.1 % or so. -

JW Privacy Non-existant
by MadApostate inthe feb2001 km has this in the "announcements":.
"the secretary should see that the regional building committee is kept up-to-date on the status of all baptized publishers who have submitted kingdom hall volunteer worker questionaire (s-82) forms.
when there are adjustments in a volunteer's status, such as when one moves or is appointed as a ministerial servant, or elder, new forms should be filled out promptly and submitted.

I think the name "MadApostate" is fitting indeed here. The point is, when you need a bricklayer for a construction work, you need to know if he is still available, and if so, how to contact him.
So if we were to follow your line of argument, we would not have telephone books or address books or whatever they are called either, I guess? -

And so the upwards trend in the rest of the world does not matter, you mean, because God's Own Country is the sole area where things happening REALLY are important, while the rest of the world is just nothing to take notice of?
