No such thing as history
by woodforde inwhy do you think it is that wts limit accessibility to watchtowers and awakes to only issues since year 2000 on jworg?
a whiff of something slightly orwellian?
not a case of re-writing history but nixing it altogether?

They are all there, on the CD-Rom. I am surprised at how much IS published on the .org, such as KM, study WTs etc. -

It is a bit strange that ALL door-to-door JWs than are mentioned here, are like these, "Two women were there, the one that was holding the magazines was very nervous. Her voice quivered and as she spoke to me she showed me a page in the Watchtower and read a quote." They are always very nervous, have nothing to say, and just push magazines. Strange. Very different from the ones I encounter. But then maybe your stories are a bit "coloured"? -

Asking for confirmation: Bethel factory in Germany
by bats in the belfry inin january 2015 my devout and longtime 'in the truth' jw relatives (50+ years) went to the german bethel factory in selters.
they were shocked seeing an near empty factory floor and were told that some printing presses supposedly have been sold to 'worldy' companies.i got to hear the stunning admission out of their mouths: "we left with the impression they are closing up shop".just whoa!
to me it sounds like a firesale - "because everything must go" (die hard iv).. has anyone else seen the factory in that condition?

DEFINITELY an overrated personal opinion. The German plants are printing like never before. Must have been either the oldest equipment having been sold, or some specific, fringe-like equipment. Friends of mine were there a few months ago and told me it was business and man power like never before. -

Recent recollections from the regional convention.
by ulises225 inshort story long, i've been out for 6 months now, my family are studying with the witnesses and they believe that is the true path but sided with me when i was disfellowshipped, they made it very clear they were not going to shun me and now i'm taking steps to make them realize what this religion really is about, meanwhile, it made my mother happy to know i went to the regional convention in a city where i don't know any witnesses which made it easier for me, anyways.. during one of the talks one of the speakers mentioned that convention where rutherford changed the name of "bible students" to that of jehovah's witnesses, and he said that the even was broadcasted worldwide through the radio, none of this is news, however he said that at that hour of the day when the announcement was given, witnesses in japan were trying to get the radio signal fixed so they could hear the talks given by rutherford, basically he said they failed to fix the radio signal but "miraculously" the signal was ok during the announcement so witnesses in japan got to hear the announcement, broke in tears and then the signal was gone again.. now that i know how the organization conducts itself i know this story is pure nonsense but if we examine this and please correct me if i'm wrong the data given by the speaker proves the story to be false by itself.
first i remember that it wasn't until knorr sent missionaries to japan that witnesses began to appear in japan, i remember a video where lloyd barry speaks of missionaries arriving to japan in the 40's and he said there were only a handful of witnesses whereas the speaker at the convention mentions "how many brothers in japan gathered to hear the radio broadcast by rutherford" second, the speaker is part of the branch committee in mexico so he ought to know that what he was saying was not true at all.. anyways this is my first post.
i will try to do this regularly, and if someone is from mexico i'm up to meet anyone.

Ever heard about this trifle called "World War II"? Almost all Japanese JWs went passive, and among those still being active a lot left, so if you had bothered to read the YB on japan, you would have found the answer to your huge puzzle. -

Excusing the JW Child Abuse Scandals.
by Phizzy inmy question is prompted by a post of terry's on his own thread about a parable for jw's.
in that post terry shows how the standard jw response to any report of sex abuse within the borg is to use the "no true scotsman" fallacy.. i.e "he was not a real jw".. my question is for some time in the future, when the true, horrendous, extent of abuse within the borg is public knowledge, and the cognitive dissonance grows for jw's about this being endemic in "god's organization" for so long, how will they excuse it, or explain it, then ?.
how will they push away the obvious conclusion that jehovah must have approved of this going on, or he would have rectified it, not left it to the courts to pick up the broken pieces years later ?.

Abuse among JWs once again highlighted on national TV / Norway
by InquiryMan inthe major commercial tv network in norway, has once again highlighted abuse within religious communities.
the only group not willing to reveal any information on abuse cases is jehovahs witnesses.
this case is highlighted very prominently on their web site today and will most likely be on their evening news tonight (i reckon).. http://www.tv2.no/2014/12/01/nyheter/overgrep/6261340.

And the articles make clear that the abuse cases they refer to, took place many years ago. And between the lines claim that JWs must profess it to the elders if they felt "lust" during intercourse with their spouse ......................................

And the branch spokesman tells that as soon as any elder is made aware of an alledged abuse of a minor, he will report it to the police and do everything he/they can to cooperate with the authorities. The branch and congregational policy complies in every step tp the demands of the authorities. Thus reporting it to the police is mandatory for the elders (if the family has not already done so). So they do exactly as the other churches that are questioned, do - the only thing they do not, is to provide the television channel with statistics.

Old news. In most European countries, they have not been used for years because of privacy laws.

If you click the link at the start of this thread, you will find the statement as the fourth last entry, fourth from bottom - and I just wondered if anyone knows what that means or refers to?
