  Door To Door

  my father a ms told me several months ago that jw's no longer do "regular door to door witnessing".

  he told me this as i said to him i cannot remember the last time i saw a jwitness at my door which was unusual.. has anyone any answers to this?.

  Welcome to the board! I've been on the lookout for someone named Ladonna. I am FreePeace's wife, if you are the one who emailed him recently, then double welcome.

  As far as I know, the "proselytizing work" is slogging along slowly, especially here in the U.S. I don't know where these expanding numbers come from...certaily not here. The only person who's come to my door in the last two years was a Mormon, and a young lady at that!
  We had an interesting discussion with her. We told her about the JW's horrible shunning policy in regards to what it does to families, and asked her to spread the word about it! Hee Hee

  This hit a little too close to home

  the following appeared in the newspaper this morning:.

  a 17-year-old highlands school student was in jail thursday on charges that he had developed a hit list, naming several fellow students he supposedly planned to kill.

  highlands police say they arrested andrew douglas quintero, a junior, without incident on wednesday and charged him with 10 misdemeanor counts of communicating threats.. in an interview thursday, highlands school principal jack brooks indicated he wasn't sure whether the student intended to carry out the threats, but said he wasn't taking any chances.. "whether this was done out of humor or it was an expression of anger, i had no idea," brooks said.

  Mommy,

  How sad and frightening. I admit I do not know the answers for dealing with these situations. Obviously, if they actually bring a weapon to school, there is no question they should be suspended. I think they should also receive court ordered therapy! But someone just writing down their thoughts, well, that could go either way. Is the child seriously troubled or depressed? This could indicate whether he had any serious intentions.

  I will say that the principal of that school sounds like a guy with his head on straight. He didn't join in the (sometimes) media generated hysteria and paranoia, and was concerned with the threat, took it seriously and took action to protect the students, but he also expressed great concern for the young man who made the threats, and that he receive proper help. How else could you handle it? He sounds like he has his head on straight.

  I've told my high school student repeatedly that if he ever even hears a joke about bombing the school or shooting people, he's to talk to me about it. We will alert the authorities, because you just can't take the chance! Maybe we should all pack up and move to Switzerland, which seems like a relatively safe place to live. If only it weren't so damn cold.

  ihardly ever look at h2o now that all the interesting posters are here, but i took a look today for old time's sake: how utterly changed the place has become!

  a handful of messages on the front page, many from the evangelical (or worse, the joshua92's) crowd.

  Hi Thrill Seeker,

  I left H2O because of the seeming random deletion of posts, and, I admit, it was being taken over by ranting fundamentalists. If I wanted to hear that stuff, I'd join a church myself!

  Farkel, Unclebruce and Tina are responsible for my finding my way over here. When things were getting really stinky over at H2O, they kept inviting us over. So I came, and so happy I did. I love the chat room, too. It really lets you get to know people better, especially their sense of humor.

  hello, i've been lurking the board for quite sometime now and i have also read crisis of conscience.

  my hubby and i stopped attending the meetings since december and had our first christmas in 6 years.

  it was fun although the feelings of guilt are still within us.. we've been visited by the elders twice but we managed to keep them at bay.

  Oh my god, where was this story when we were growing up?

  This should be required reading for all female children, especially in some other countries!

  Not that I have anything against you guys, you understand. Some of you(you know who you are) ok, Unclebruce, Gopher, Bugeye, Farkel..

  Should My Mother Shun My Daughter?

  i don't know why i never spotted this before, but my daughter from my first marriage has just pointed out to me that her grandmother - my jw mother - has never ever contacted her since she was a child.

  how would her grandmother respond if she - my daughter - made some contact?.

  my first response was to say that i'm sure she would be delighted to hear from her, but then i got to wondering.

  Hey E-man

  I'm with the others, I know of no official policy encouraging her to shun her own granddaughter. But as you know, the WTS cult is bogged down with so many unwritten rules and taboos that no one can keep up with them. What might be ok in one congregation is totally looked down upon at another, so go figure.

  I think it more likely that she is showing her disapproval of you...and by extension, your daughter? Just a thought. That is what my mom is doing with my two kids. Though they were never baptized, she still doesn't view them as "worldly" because they went to meetings for years, so I think in the back of her mind, she is viewing them as "someone who turned their backs on the truth", because you know, if you've gone to meetings, then you MUST have seen that it's the truth!!!!How could you miss seeing that?

  Very well said. As you so eloquently stated, there will always be people who don't want to think for themselves, who would like to believe that someone has all the answers, and for those people, there will always be religions or groups to ensnare them.

  But I too believe the WTS's reign is coming to an end, because their claims are so preposterous that you have to keep people ignorant to keep them believing. And no matter how much they rant and rave against the dangers of the internet, they will not stop the progression towards knowledge, which the internet is enabling. You are right, if they came right out and told people, you may have to wait 70 years or whatever to see this new world, people would say, screw that, 70 years might be all I have! Therefore, they are losing more and more of the middle aged and younger ones, because we have seen how our parents WASTED their lives, and we are not so stupid that it requires a slap in the face to make us not want that outcome for ourselves.

  i just reread song of solomon for the first time in over ten years.

  despite using the nwt, which butchers most biblical poetry to admiration, i was nevertheless struck its beauty.

  if you haven't read it, it is about a shepherd's love for one of solomon's concubines, and it evokes a delicious, aching, tantalising, desire - yup really.
