What happens to a resident if they get DF'd? Imagine one professes disbelief in the Watchtower Society and gets a visit by a JC who promptly DFs the person. Do the elders tell the manager of the home? Does the person get shunned by staff and residents or are they tipped out on the street?
I guess problems like that are what prevents the WTS setting up or endorsing residential care homes.

i have never missed a memorial in 20 years of being a jw, but this year will be the first one i miss because i refuse to set foot in any kingdom hall.
i was wondering how many that post here will attend the memorial and if so why?.
do you feel pressured into going by family or friends?.
The last meeting I attended was the Memorial in 1997. I decided on that night to quit and never attend another meeting. I had been to every JW memorial since 1961 until that year. I had no intention of giving any false hope to my JW relatives by attending the most special JW occasion (like many do to appease spouses, parents etc). When I decided that JWs had no sole truth I could no longer attend.
I agree with Ozziepost's reflection on the communion of the "last supper". The JW version is not scriptural.

i've just mentioned on another thread how in russia secret agents managed to get into high postions of authority in the society there in order to keep a watch on what they were doing.. i believe this has happened in other countries to.. so how about this, do the british and american goverments have infiltraitors in the society to keep a watch on them?.
it seems an obvious thing to do if you are in power, you somehow need to keep track of what fringe groups are doing.. could they even be high up in the org if they are there?.
there was an article in one of the newspapers this week that claimed over 1000 organisations in britian are involved in secret obsevations of individuals and groups for various reasons.. it seems possible that they would want to keep tabs on groups like the witnesses.. what do you think?
If there are "secret agents" infiltrating the Watchtower Society there will be counter espionage agents working for the WTS. Some of these will be looking for the government agents while at the same time others will be looking for "apostates". Some though will be double agents working for the society while slyly passing on secrets to their government handlers and Randy Watters.
Remember next time you are working with little old sister Burgess, be careful what you say. That hat pin is a really microphone and everything you say will be saved for later transmission to the WTIA.

i think i have read in the literature that the lord jesus became king in heaven on october 4th or 5th 1914. how is it possible to be so exact?.

Russell's fascination with pyramids comes from some Brits who felt that the pyramid inch at 1/25th of a cubit and very close to the British Imperial inch was of divine origin and superior to the "metre" invented by those pesky French. (There were also wacky ideas that proto-Brits had built the pyramids and that the Brits were the lost tribe of Israel.)
Russell liked the idea of the divinely dimensioned pyramid and gave a lot of consideration to the idea that the dimensions of the internal structures of the Great Pyramid foretold history including the return of Christ. He arrived at 1914 based on these measurements although he never set foot in nor placed a tape measure to the Great Pyramid of Giza.
On top of these wonderfully loopy ideas on Pyramids Russell also used a set of numerical gymnastics. Basically, 7 times (from Daniel) that weren't times but actually years but not really years but years of days. These aren't really days but days means years based on 360 days to a year. (Farkel does a much better job of explaining it.)
Thus, using pyramids and Biblical numeracy Russell calculated a 2520 year period starting from 606 BC. He forgot, or didn't even know, that our dating system was invented before we were taught Math by the Arabs (a benefit of the Crusades) and as result there isn't a year zero. So using the wrong date for the fall of Jerusalem (606 is neither accepted by historians or JWs) Russell arrived at 1914. And today JWs still teach this as a fundamental truth.

we know the wt society has a long history of prophecies, especially regarding dates.
almost 100% of such prophecy was in error.. it seems though, that they got a date right by foretelling that 1914 would be "the end of the world as we know it".
yes, they changed the meaning of 1914 several times.
I wouldn't even say that 1914 was a lucky guess. Russell identified lots of dates and so did Watchtower writers after him. The fact is every decade has at least one defining moment so predicting something special isn't hard even Russell hedged his bets with 1915.
1929, 1933, 1939, 1941, 1945, 1957, 1961, 1969, are some notable years in human history for one reason or another but you could add lots of other years for other reasons too. If the world changed in 1914 did it change again in 2001?

i'm wondering how many of you took a while to gather up the courage to dispose of your cupboard loads of watchtowers and awakes, that you'd stored away for........safe keeping????.
we probably hung on to ours for a few months and then we burned them.
there was a tinge of apprehension about it, but it was generally a very satisfying activity.
I got rid of a lot of my stuff while I was still a JW. I dumped a load of books and all my bound and bindered magazines. An elder in a neighboring congregation took some or my collection. I had to ship (literally) all my personal belongings and I felt my road and mountain bikes were more important than 1970s Awakes. Anyway, I expected to get everything on CD-ROM. Not quite, but some extremely kind and generous people on this board freely gave me some replacements for items not available on the CD.
My parents still have a box of my personal belongings in their attic. It includes a copy of Riches(the book with a bare breasted Eve and a four legged snake) which I should retrieve someday along with my 1960's stamp collection.

i wish to present three situations that are true to life and open up a discussion on these different scenarios and how would would personally act toward them.. 1) a 75 year old person has been a jw for the past 40 years.
most of their friends are jws.
they look forward to the fellowship at the meetings and though the congregation is far from perfect, they are pleased with the fact that they have a purpose in life.

Every situation has its own set of circumstances so there is no right or wrong answer to this. I would make these comments.
1. Just because you are old doesn't mean you don't deserve to know the truth. Just because you are old doesn't mean that only JWs can provide a satisfying hope. Just becuase you are old doesn't mean you can't make new friends. There are examples of long-time JWs who have quit the org. There are also plenty of stories of old timers who have been abandoned by JWs.
2. Are JWs the only religious group that makes house-bound people part of their community?
3. Are JWs the only religious group that can get people to turn their lives around. Does finding the truth out about JWs destroy families, break up marriages and turn reformed prostitutes back to their previous lives?
I think in all senarios you could answer that they deserve to know the truth about their religion. Even then it doesn't mean that they will change their belief or viewpoint.

I kid you not, Icke has been favorite fare for British Tabloids for a long time. I couldn't remember much, although I knew he was a prominent spokesman for the "Greens" and they suddenly distanced themselves from Icke when he claimed he was the son of God.

Some of us knew David Icke when he used to anchor BBC TV Saturday afternoon sports. (He was a former soccer player) That was before he joined the Green party and before he declared himself the Messiah. He was good as a sports anchor though.
