i've had aol for several years now.
i am dumping it very soon.
anyone else have aol and what is your opinion?
AOL or MSN I don't see the point. I signed up for HS Internet via MSN. I pay my local Cable TV company for the service. I asked MSN how their service is incorporated...it isn't, so guess what, I ditched MSN. I still have my MSN e-mail account accessible through Hotmail. I asked the MSN Customer Service person why MSN offered HS Internet from another provider as I didn't see any need to pay $20/month for a piece of software when Internet explorer was fine on its own...She didn't have an answer.
I hear the AOL's customer base is shrinking and its because of high speed internet services offered by other companies.

For the record Qwest DSL service sucks when they offer it and then tell you your community can't get it.
oh my friends, my buddies...could you do this old lady a favor if you have a couple of minutes???
my son's band...tree of woe...was played on one of our local radio stations tonight...in a "music knock-out"...and if they win they will get played another night!
so i was just wondering...if anyone has the time to go to
I added mine and it's still at 59%
did you have a best friend at the kingdom hall, what happened to them, do you know where they are today ?
My best JW friend attended school with me and later college too. After he got married and moved out of the area we hardly saw each other. Nearly 20 years later I heard he had gotten divorced, lost his house, had been badly beaten up (hospitalized) and was living with his parents again. I wrote a letter and offered him a vacation and a free return airline ticket to the US. He never wrote back (maybe because I'm apostate...who knows?). I asked my mother recently, who is in the same cong' as his parents, what the recent situation was. He is in his own place, not working (other health issues) and is living with a foul-mouthed (my mother's words) 18 year old girl.
I doubt my parents would ever have told me about my friend. I heard from someone else some details that my parents weren't aware of and once I asked they were obliged to tell me the whole sorry tale. I guess in my parent's eyes, despite my "falling away", my divorce and marrying a much younger woman, (Mrs Thirdson is 16 years younger than me) I haven't turned out too bad and the daughter in-law they hardly know, the Satan worshipping, Christendom member, college educated, director of a community services non-profit org and step-mom isn't quite as bad as they once thought. At least in comparison!!!

friends, this is a sort of poll, directed mainly at -- but not limited to --ex-elders, their wives and kids.
it was my impression that, with the possible exception of meaningful personal prayer, the other aspect of the idealized, exemplary jw lifestyle that was portrayed at the assemblies and at meetings-- the regular, weekly family bible study -- was the one most neglected.
it seemed to be something the ``other" spiritual family did and the one thing we constantly agreed we ``needed to work on.".
We had a regular family Bible Study every Friday night for years. I remember when I was very young studying the old Paradise book. At some point in time it became a Watchtower study. Back in the old days the congregation studies were in the format of ask the questions first and then read the paragragh. Pre-study meant reading the paragraphs first and then asking the questions and as the question was answered everyone could underline the section. (I guess the Society knew that few studied before the meeting and thus reading the paragraphs first dumbed it down and did away with the need to study ahead of time.)
For a few years we did portions of the weekly Bible reading at the dinner table. Long enough to cover the whole Bible. Dad tried doing the day's text (numerous times it was started and surpringly these sessions always occurred after the last assembly we attended) but that was excruciatingly boring, more so that the family study. As we grew up and had work and other commitments the prolonged dinner sessions were hard to do. We eventually stopped the weekly Watchtower study when the youngest sibling got baptized.
Friday nights were so boring! We suffered through many hours of 'type' and 'antitype' waiting for it to be over so that we could watch Dad's Army on the telly.

i just finished watching martha stewart and after it went off there was a set of commercials before the news came on and i swear i just saw a commercial from the christian congregation of jehovahs' witnesses!.
it was about raising your children with knowledge and love.
it showed a teen girl on the internet in a chat room with a person who had become her best friend and wanted to meet her in person and they said something like if it seems too good to be true it is..'love builds happy familys' was the slogan or something.. .
At the end of the commercial there is a toll-free number to call. Has anyone called it?

not yours; but those of others you had the good fortune to watch happen.
my favourite is the time we had the co and his wife for lunch after field service, and my mum swore in front of them.
This is not JW related. I had a boss whose speech was laced with clichés and idioms which we all got used to. One day he showing a senior manager from our German parent company around our facility. He introduced the manager to the accounts office supervisor and said, "If it wasn't for Norma's skilled accounting we'd all have skid marks in our underpants." This particular phrase was quite new to the German who responded, "vos ist der skid marks in the unterpants?" My boss went bright red, mumbled something and then changed the topic. We all fell about laughing once they left the office.
