I seem to remember that the Bible mentions number 2s and digging holes outside the camp. In NWT language the Israelite with the need would take a peg with him/her. This presumably was used to clamp the nostrils and keep said Israelite clean (ceremonially) 'cause what you can't smell can't hurt you.

the family thirdson are off on vacation saturday for a week.

i'm sure this must happen, brother faithful and sister subjection, spend their whole life in jw land, have an average/good living, have three kids, both pass on, leave it all (or most) to the watchtower, would you have a case or any legal grounds in getting your money back.. definitely a case for johnny cochrane.. i'm a little worried my parents might do something this stupid.. any experiences or ideas .................
For all I know I was disinherited a long time ago. At one time I was one of the executors of parents will. Their will was to divide what was left of their estate equally between the six siblings. At the time one sibling was living at home and was to inherit everything if he was still living there. He stuck it out until age 31 when he moved out and got married. Another sibling was disinherited a few years back. Later I heard that the inheritance was to be shared between only those children still resident in my parent's country, i.e., leaving me and the youngest sibling out.
My parents haven't got a lot and if they need to move into residential care they'd have even less. They own their own home and at the most it's worth $160,000. Divided by 6 that would only leave me $27,000. I aint going to retire on that much and it would barely cover 2 years college education at the local state college. I'd prefer they give the whole lot to Firstson, he's the one who reaches retirement age the soonest and the one who's suffered the most due to following Watchtower promises..and still believes it. As for me I can take care of myself so I don't give a damn (frankly) who they choose to give money to when they transition to whatever comes after this life.

the elders and the watchtower society are big fans of using "restrictions".
anytime a person has judicial action taken against them, they are imposed with "automatic restrictions".
even if a body of elders felt that a person was too fragile to have any restriction placed upon them, they were required by the society to "restrict" them in something.......were you ever put on restrictions?
I got restricted from reading the Watchtower paragraphs for about a year. I upset the WT conductor (and PO) when he asked me to read at short notice. I could have quite easily read but I disqualified myself because I hadn't marked my copy with lines under selected sentences and told him so. He took it out on me by not assigning me to read. When I was made an elder a year later I got WT reading reinstated which sort of made sense since I'd be occasionally doing the conducting anyway.
My skydiving activities when I was 20 were the subject of a local needs item on dangerous sports. I don't remember any restrictions but the less you had to do the better it was anyway. I'd sort of like being DF'd now and attending meetings, what a great excuse for not doing anything!!! I don't do anything anyway which is even better.

wow...i watched most of the colts vs. bucs game last night and i have to say that was possibly one of the best games i have seen in a long time.
3 touchdowns in 4 minutes!

Mr brother-in-law quit watching at the end of the 3rd quarter and I turned off after the Bucs went ahead by 21 again in the 4th. I could have kicked myself when I got into work today and found out what happened. I may not live to see another game like that.

would you attend the funeral/memorial service?
assuming that it would be held in a kh; or even if it wasn't.. this is something that's been on my mind lately; honestly, i'm not sure why.
my parents are both still relatively young; 60 and 61. my dad has been diagnosed with skin cancer but both are otherwise healthy.. i really don't know whether i would; particularly for my father.
I would attend even if one parent didn't want me there. This issue came up a few years ago when my mother told one xJW sibling that she didn't want me and another sibling told if anything happended to her or dad. My sibling refused to go along with the request and said we had a right to know and besides, funerals are for the living not the dead.
I make sure that I can travel at short notice and have funds to get a flight if necessary AND assuming I am told in time. I hope it won't be for a long time...but you never know.

my mother told me that after i get married, she's going to give me the "family happiness" book.
i've never read the thing, but i know it's a wts publication that often gets given or mailed out to newlyweds who aren't in the troof.

You can always give the book to the nanny. I am sure he will love the book too. If you cannot afford a nanny and the husband stays at home while the wife goes to work then I guess he should read all the parts for the homemaker.

i remember my boss asking me once this question, since he knew i was a witness.
he asked, "what resurrects, the body, the soul, what?.
he knew that witnesses believe in the resurrection of the dead on earth, in a different physical body during the millennium.. i told him that it won't be the same physical body, and maybe won't be identical, but it's the same person.
I was thinking about this belief recently. JWs teach that no part of what makes us who we are survives death. There is no soul that lives on. But in JW belief all the information that makes us who we are uniquely has to survive death for God to resurrect that one. Even with a replica body the genetic code would have to survive death, at least in memory form for God to recreate that body. However, the body does not make us unique. Identical twins share the same looking body, sharing everything including their DNA sequence. But identical twins are different people. The only thing that makes us who we are is our life experience and memory. Therefore, for God to resurrect someone, not only does he have to create a new body that looks like the original but he has to insert the person's original memories.
Where then are those memories after a person dies? They must be with God since he has to add a person's memory to his memory in order to restore it at a future date. That must mean then that the only thing that makes us truly unique survives death and lives on with God in heaven. That sounds rather like soul survival and being with God in heaven..yet that is official JW doctrine.

ok, i've been on here for a week now, so i should start a thread...'bout time... .
this kind of stems from the problem that set my doubt blender on puree to begin with.
about nine months ago, my wife (who i was separated from for two years) confessed to sleeping around.
I tried the shared custody thing for 4 years, but after being the primary parent, the one that went to the school conferences, that bought all his clothes, paid for all his school supplies, all his school sports, ran him around to events, (sports, homecoming etc,etc) and still paid child support to the ex (shacked up with her boyfriend), I decided enough was enough. I hired a decent lawyer made the ex an offer and got my decree changed. The three of us in my household are much happier and I save a huge amount towads my son's collgee fund.
Think about what will happen down the road and save the agony now. You are the best parent, do the right thing.

okay, lets get an unofficial count of all the people who actually did get gifts on other days of the year.
I knew plenty of JW kids who never got any presents at all. To them the "giving gifts throughout the year" was one big lie. In my family we did get gifts. We usually had a "winter" present to compensate for Christmas, and sometimes a summer present. We were given pocket money and the ability to spend it how we liked. I never got a wrapped present though until my wedding. We were not well off but we had all the necessities and some. We also had a vacation each year and it wasn't camping at the District Assembly. (Except one year where we spent 3 nights, Wednesday to Friday, out of 14 in Ballarat, Victoria...that was bad but the rest of our road trip was fun).
