The last days began (after some revision) in 1914. Here, 92 years later we have entered the last day of the last days. These will extend for another 9 years until 2015, at which point we will enter 'the last days of the last days of the last days.'

Unless of course, the 'last days' will start all over again with new light pointing out the obvious that 101 years of 'last days' probably means those days weren't the last afterall. 36,000 days is fairly long time in most people's eyes especially as most people won't see that many days in their entire life.

Why don't Dub families have pets?

out of a dozen or so dub families that live near me i can only think of one with a dog.

at mt ex-congo, i only knew of two families with pets, dogs/cats.

the non-dub pet owning percentage around me is near 100%.

Where I grew up I don't remember many JWs having pets and very few elders had any pets. In contrast we always had cats and growing up I remember 2 dogs as well...along with a tortoise, rabbits, guinea pigs, parakeets, hamsters and rats (at various times). I think my mother had a duck at one time but that may have been before she became a JW and certainly before I was born.

I do recall one circuit ~~serpent~~ ~~servant~~ overseer having a real issue with pets. He hated that some treated their pets like little children. He went as far as to say that the Bible says nothing about cats (incorrectly as the Bible mentions big cats) and that dogs are always mentioned in a negative way. The time caring for pets takes away from field service, meeting attendance and assemblies and blah, blah, blah. And in the new system (tm) we'd have all the time in the world for pets. I guess a lot agreed.

I didn't have any pets for a long time as I liked to be able to travel away from home and not have to worry about getting pets looked after.

We have a cat now.

one doesn't grow up religiously attending '5 meetings a week' without developing a strategy for survival.

mine started at about ten years of age and gradually grew more sophisticated as the years assemblies rolled by.

During talks with lots of scriptures I used to look for hidden words. By reading down the left edge of each column of text you could find other words. They had to be a minimum of 3 letters long and couldn't cross paragraphs, verse numbers or punctuation (my rules0. There are plenty of 3 letter words, some 4 and even 5 letters. One of the most common words is 'tit'. I spent many an hour looking for tit in the Bible while appearing to be very studious.

Elders accuse us of Mail Fraud

well the sh*t has finally hit the fan now.

it seems that several families in the neillsville / marshfield area have received packages with apostatetm material enclosed.

at the service meeting last thursday night in two (count them) two congregations the elders have announced that a mail fraud scheme is in the area with packages arriving at publishers homes.

Why not send a package and mark the outside 'may contain apostate material'. Inside put a few Watchtower and Awake magazines collected from local Laundromats.

If the packages are simply thrown away, what matters, you've gotten rid of garbage. If the elders open the packages the joke is on them and only adds to the paranoia.

when i started dating susan i became very conscious of my 'standing in the congregation.

susan and her parents attended elizabeth congregation 20kms away.

they knew that i'd missed the sunday morning meeting, so i invited them to meet me for the afternoon session at my kingdom hall.. prospect shared the hall with enfield congregation.

Hi Lee,

I'm sorry to hear of Alan's passing and your experience. I remember he was a lot more down to earth than many in the congregation. When he first moved to our congregation some of the "brothers" insisted on pronouncing his last name the French way, apparently influenced by a certain French undersea explorer. I seem to remember Alan and family kept to the Anglosized way. I'm glad you were there at the end.

A little catching up: my son graduates high school this year. He has been accepted at one university and is still waiting to hear from others. He still hasn't decided on whether he will enlist in the Navy or Coast Guard instead and serve in the military first before college. Our daughter will be a year old in a few days time. My relationship with my parents has often been strained. However, they are making plans to come visit us and to see their 12th grandchild. My Dad's health hasn't been too good and this may be his last big trip. I hope they decide to visit later this year as the next chance for us to meet up will not be until the fall next year when we hope to visit England.

G'day Uncle Bruce,

I thought most of the meetings in Elizabeth were a bit strange. Salisbury was stranger especially as they met in a Masonic Hall with a picture of the Queen on the wall. The PO was ex-Navy and still used some of the colorful language -- which upset my mother.

A come-visit-Australia TV commercial has recently been censored in the UK because of the term "bloody." I seem to remember frequent use of the "B" word during meetings in the congregation we attended.
