Bible Study Student With A Ton of Questions
by AddaGirl ini am both new to this forum and new to the jehovah's witness organization.
i am currently about half way through the 'what does the bible really teach?
" and have been attending both sunday services and ministerial school for 3 months.. my biggest problem is that, being a researcher by nature, "verifying that all things are true," i have also been researching the organization which has stumbled me greatly.

Hi Ada. I was raised a JW and baptized for a few years before I opened my eyes. If you've ever read the book by George Orwell called "1984" then you have an idea of how things work within the organization. I quote: "Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.." http://www.freeminds.org/psych/1984.htm

Your thoughts and ideas on how and why the WTS.started, a background study.
by thetrueone inhi folks, i've been reading your comments in this forum for awhile now, and they certaintly have been enlighting, but i'm interested in your .
ideas on who, why and how the organization started, and how did it maintain itself for all these years.
what was the underlining intent of the people who started.

JW's, Seventh Day Adventists, et al. sprang from the Millerite movement of the late 19th Century ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millerites ). The original purpose of the WTBTS was to distribute literature and promulgate the teachings of CT Russell and others of like mind. Interestingly, Russell did not intend for the WTBTS to become the seat of a centralized religion. He often spoke against such things. If he were alive today, he would most likely be disfellowshipped. ;-)

Why don't JW's change their failed methods of witnessing...
by zeroday ingoing out in field service monday thru friday 9 till noon, knocking on empty doors while most people are away at work.
knowing no one will be at home.
why is there not a massive effort for evening witnessing when you know most people will be home and able to be reached.

There were arrangements made for evening witnessing in my congregations. I participated a few times, but never really wanted to do it after being at work all day.

If this is something temporary for training, then I'd probably give him a ride. On the other hand, if he is expecting a ride after that, I think your suggestion of him coming to you is reasonable. Don't be afraid to ask him what are his intentions for getting to work in the future. It may be that, once training is over and actual work starts, he's intending to buy a car or move closer. Dialog is the key to not harboring any bad feelings in your situation. Perhaps if you know what, if any, his plans are, you may find that you're happy to help for a little while and this would foster good relations at work.

I just had a thought...what if a JW hacker has gotten into Barbara's account and is posting this to have a go at us? What if this is all a theocratic war tatic to get our hopes up? What if I'm dreaming? i was thinking the same thing
I think the real Barbara would have stood up by now.
B
A rougue Bethel hit squad could have taken her out so that she's unable to reply!

Did you ever go out in Field Service on Thanksgiving or Christmas morning
by pratt1 in.
i never had a problem with going door to door except for the holidays.. one, i felt like we were intruding on our neighbors who set aside time be with their loved ones.. two, it just made me feel more different and jealous that i was not celebrating the holidays with my family.. any thoughts?

I went out on x-mas once and all I ever placed was a single tract. I remember feeling uncomfortable going out on holidays and Superbowl Sunday. Actually, I felt more like an idiot. I felt like I was intruding.
