I went out on x-mas once and all I ever placed was a single tract. I remember feeling uncomfortable going out on holidays and Superbowl Sunday. Actually, I felt more like an idiot. I felt like I was intruding.

Did you ever go out in Field Service on Thanksgiving or Christmas morning
by pratt1 in.
i never had a problem with going door to door except for the holidays.. one, i felt like we were intruding on our neighbors who set aside time be with their loved ones.. two, it just made me feel more different and jealous that i was not celebrating the holidays with my family.. any thoughts?

Bethel: Pathway to Apostasy
by Black Man inat the 'big house' you go either one of two ways, company man or apostate.
i think for many that went, it demystified the whole organization and you saw firsthand that there wasn't holy spirit influencing anything - only the muses of sheltered, out-of-touch old men and political bureaucrats.
i work in the corporate world and i saw just as much if not more politics in bethel.

I remember, shortly after I was baptised, a bethelite visited our congregation. I went in service with some elders and him. He asked me if I'd ever considered going to Bethel since I was single. I told him in front of everyone that "I'm not Bethel material. I just finished 4 years in the Navy on a ship living with a bunch of guys and didn't want to do that again." There was a silent pause from the van group, afterwhich the Bethelite said "Thanks for being honest". I wondered why the elders were looking at me funny? At that time I wasn't totally in tune with JW thoughtcrime and newspeak. I was a bit naive then. ;-)

"In New Zealand, there's a strict religious group known as Exclusive Brethren..." I had never heard of these guys until Steve2 mentioned them. I Googled them and came up with this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions/christianity/subdivisions/brethren/exclusive.shtml . These guys sound like what the society would love to aspire to be. No TV, Radio, Newspapers or College are allowed. And they believe the internet "are being used by 'the man of sin' referred to in the Book of Revelation..." If everyone in the Halls did what the Watchtower magazines suggest that's exactly how JW's would be IMHO.

the JW approach to sexual abuse
by spopeislandstyle ini was molested by a brother in my congregation when i was nine years old.
when i told my mother she went directly to a family friend and respected elder to seek advise.
a couple days later, he and another elder made a visit to our home and questioned me for hours.

Confession: Give Up the Tapes!!!
by prophecor in(according to james5:14-16) is anyone among you sick?
he should call for the elders of the church, and they should pray over him after anointing him with olive oil in the name of the lord.
15 the prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the lord will raise him up; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

Well, when I was hardcore in I would have felt an obligation to report any and all thoughtcrime so it's probably better to keep your mouth shut.

Did you lie before getting married in the KH?
by Samuel Thorsen inas you know every young couple who is planning to get married in the kh are asked a question about "clean conduct" a week or two before the wedding.
if you admit to have been fooling around to much you can forget about the kh and go and get married elsewhere.. i'm not married myself, but i was engaged to be married once and my soon-to-be father in law (an elder) recommended a certain elder to do the marriage stuff in the kh because he was a kind of easy on the mantadory questions.. fortunatly in never got that far because me and my girl split up about 2 months before the planned wedding, but i have been to a lot of kh weddings and i know for sure that some of the couples had to lie to cover up their conduct to get married in the hall.. but how common is this?.
did you lie before getting maried in the kh, or do you know someone who did?.

Yeah, we lied. We didn't have intercourse but did a lot of things short of that.

What was your turning point?
by jeanniebeanz inwhat was it that was the real eye opener for you?.
for me, it was after watching the video, "jehovah's witnesses; a non-prophet organization," and the point on how the org puts itself in a place between jesus and mankind.
a position which does not exist scripturally.

For me it was the blood issue. Then reading Crisis of Conscience. Lastly, this board.

Help: I have a dispute with a JW and don't know how to proceed.
by kouzelna ini have a serious business dispute with a jw and it is getting out of control - i need to know if there is any procedure for seeing mediation that he can trust (through your organization, for example).
i am also a serious practicing christian believer, although i am not a jw.
i have no reason to believe that this man is not exactly who he claims to be, as he has always acted honorably, apart from our business together, regretably.

"This man (see original post above) made all kinds of promises to me over a period of about 30 days, and then once I signed our contract BAM! He tells me 36 hours later that "anything I may have said, if it's not in the contract, doesn't apply." So all our verbal agreements are off." Is there any law there giving you a certain amount of time to get out of a contract? For example, in California we have 3 days to cancel contracts. Also, were there any witnesses to his verbal promises? It's hard to answer your questions since you're in another country with different laws but you might want to start asking around. I'd suggest consulting with a local attorney.

The only person he would probably trust as a mediator is another JW. One suggestion I could offer is to find a JW elder who doesn't know either you or your business associate and ask if he will act as a mediator. The only problem with that is I'd be afraid this mediator, being a JW, would be biased towards his "brother". Perhaps a better suggestion would be if you both know someone who you both trust who could act as mediator. Lastly, if there is a professional mediation service available there that handles labor disputes and such you might try engaging them. Unfortunatly, I fear that if he feels the only way to resolve this is to go to court he's probably not open to any of the above and it doesn't sound as if he's as sincere as you in wanting to solve things in a biblical way. By the way, I'm not sure if your realize that this is an anti-Jehovah's Witness sight. There are some active and inactive (me) Witnesses here as well as those who've been either kicked out or left of their own accord.
