some brand them as marginal protestants or a religion devoted to works with a background in christianity.

JW'S neither Catholic nor Protestant? WHAT, THEN?
by Terry inthe main split in christianity (between catholics and protestants) is the issue of who tells you what to do and how they tell you.
the catholic church has staked out the "chain of evidence" theory which is sacred tradition.
the church has all authority in faith and morals.. protestants (since martin luther) cling to the assertion that the bible alone can give instruction directly, or; sola scriptura.

Very much to the point
by InquiryMan ini wholeheartedly agree with this statement made in another web site:.
"by far the majority of jehovah's witnesses are good and honest people and, from the outside, it would be easy to understand the appeal of their way of life.
they support each other and share common goals and values.

I wholeheartedly agree with this statement made in another web site:
"By far the majority of Jehovah's Witnesses are good and honest people and, from the outside, it would be easy to understand the appeal of their way of life. They support each other and share common goals and values. The danger exists when one wishes to leave. A quiet and dignified exit which maintains family relationships and ties of friendship is simply not possible. "
And every convert, albeit those born in the "truth", is a person that abandons their faith. Being an apostate to their previous beliefs. And if they are loosing friends over it, is it purely a test of loyalty to be expected... Double standards all the way.

If you would have won lots of money playing lottery as a JW...
by JH inimagine if you would have won lots of money playing the lottery, while being an active jw, how would you have wiggled your way out of it?.
would you have admitted playing and winning, or invented a story that you inherited lots of money or would you have just moved elsewhere where no one knows you, and you would have lived a very comfortable life still as a jw, or would you have simply quit being a jw?.

I remember this actually took place in Germany. I was told when visiting a friend of mine there. In his congregation a family won the lottery. They were of course branded as weak. The prize money was well in the scope of 500,000 dollars. So it could not be hidden. They also had a handicapped child. They got away with a public reproorf. (I was secretly happy for them, since this money definitely would easen their burden). My mother stated when I told her this, I would gladly have accepted a public reproof for that money... I remember in their earliest years they even took part in some money games involving soccer (do not know the English term for it)... But when dad climbed the steps of the theocratic ladder, this was stopped...

Describe a typical Saturday for a jw child
by carla inplease describe a typical saturday for a jw child.
reason being my jw once told me that all jw children love the door to door (yeah right) and they have all afternoon to play.
don't they need to get ready for the sunday service?

Even as an elder I rarely brought my children out in service. But I guess I was a closet apostate, so I did not have enough impetus to do it.

Gas prices soon to pass $4.00 mark
by free2beme ini remember last year, a lot of blame against the republican congress for doing nothing to stop big oil companies from raising prices.
democrats are in office now, and no one seems to be saying anything.
why are the democrats not being the night and shinning armor about gas prices?.

How much have you changed since you left the JWs..........
by fifi40 inthe reason that i ask this question is for two reasons mainly.. firstly, my experience as a jw and within the various congregations i was part of, was that they were a very mixed bag.
there were those who were very devout, studious and appeared to be very humble and placid in nature.
there were those that were very judgemental of others.

Used to be kind, yet strict on myself and others. Humerous, but very prudent (not anymore). Talkative, but always kept within theocratic boundaries (not at all anymore). Generous and hospitable (however, due to shunning not being able to extend those qualities to my parents/sisters). Now I m trying to be tolerant, non-judgemental and open... (of course having been an elder, and now an open gay, divorced, yet living close to my ex, is by far a big change from my former life, yet I remain much of the same in my core personality - some qualities are even easier to show now. I find it easier to show the socalled fruits of the spirit now when it is not talked about all the time.... (apart from the last one LOL)
