It's Flag Day in a South Texas town along the Mexico border in 1993. Your World War II veteran grandfather proudly displays his American flag in the front yard. An immigrant from Eastern Europe, he was literally smuggled into this country. He is proudly watering his well manicured yard when he is greeted by two women walking up the driveway. He catches a glimpse of them and smiles. "Hello sir", we're here today to talk about the world events..." Before he can say "I don't want any," my grandmother steps out to talk to them. Grandpa goes into the house (whew, I missed those JW's again.) Grandma smiles and listens to the spiel, that is until one well-thinking JW says "well you know that flag you have in your yard is just plain idol worship..." Grandma's mouth drops to the grass and then says "How dare you say our admiration for our country's symbol is idol worship... (rest of conversation is censored.) Two ladies quickly retreat to their 4-door car and leave post haste. Grandma telephones Kingdom Hall on Monday morning and tells them a word or two or three...my grandparents house is immediately placed upon "Do Not Call" list in territory files.

What Do You Call Calling on a Do Not Call?
by ezekiel3 init is a little known policy outside jws that all you have to do to stop jws from coming to your door is to be put on the "do not call" list.
this is a record that is attached to the back of every territory card (a map section assigned to jw members) and carefully avoided by jws in future visits in your neighborhood.
to make sure that the list is valid and up-to-date, it is procedure for an elder (usually the service overseer) to call on these addresses at least once per year to verify that the resident still does not want visits.

Farewell to the Gipper...President Reagen
by ThiChi infarewell to the gipper...president reagan
reagan set in motion many great policies that most today do not realize.
the fall of the ussr (do a search here for "sick bear" for the facts), killing inflation, cutting taxes while tripling the nations revenue (too bad congress did not follow suite and cut spending, as agreed), lifting the nations spirits and pride after many years of failed policies.

I am very touched by all the tributes to President Reagan. He wasn't a perfect man or President, but I highly admired the man and was fortunate enough to meet him in California when I was a little girl. He had just become Governor of California, and we visited Sacramento. I was only about 5, but my memories of him and Nancy leaning down to meet all of us little ones was wonderful. I remember Nancy gently brushing the tops of our heads with her hands when we went by her. He was the only man I voted for before I became a JW and voting became a no no. Now I look forward to casting my vote for Senator Kerry in November, the second person I will vote for President.

For those that can't place the face - I mainly brought this to the board because I was such a big fan of this soap opera in my teens. This was the first soap I watched at the age of 13 in the summer of 1976. My JW mom wouldn't let me watch soap operas, but I went on vacation to my grandmother's and watched this soap opera for the whole summer. From then on, I was hooked!

Corvin,
I love Austin Pendleton also. One of my favorites is his performance in "What's Up Doc." When he and Madelyn Kahn get "close" during the trauma of the bag switching, it is so hysterical. I love that movie, it's so funny!

Probably have posted this before, but I met Rick Springfield in May 1985 at the Louvre Museum in Paris. He was on concert tour and had on dark glasses. I recognized him and went up to him, I didn't ask for his autograph. I was more concerned trying to find the Mona Lisa. He wasn't really rude, but not friendly, mostly indifferent. And I met Shirley Temple Black about 15 years ago. That was worth the wait in line because I hear she doesn't sign autographs anymore because of all the autograph retailers on the Internet.
