JWs and the Amish
by Silverleaf inthis morning's paper had an article on the amish [nothing in depth, just about how they sell their wares at local markets] but it brought to mind the ideas of the amish - they want no part of the world, they don't like to call attention to themselves, don't baptize little children, and they shun those who leave the faith.
i was just wondering if anyone here could shed some light on how jws view the amish.
are they impressed?

Who are the 144,000?
by EXJWBrit ini swallowed and believed such much shit when i was a jw that i have a few more questions to ask anyone who has the answers.
the 144,000 is a big gripe of mine........ right, i was told that the 144,000 found out they were one of the anointed when they had a flash of "revelation" at some point and truly believed it or they had known since they were a child.
what a load of shit!

Why did the number of them steadily dwindle away until about the mid-1980's and then seemed to halt at around 8,000 and has been in that range ever since?Anybody got any ideas on this one?
dsgal: The WTS teaches that if one of the 144,000 leaves the fold (as in disfellowshipped or disassociated), another "younger" chosen one who believes he/she is anointed can take their place.
How convenient! They have a made-up answer for everything, don't they.

WT literature in the trash can
by Nordic ini am born in the truth.now i am 40 years old and have thrown all my wt literature in the trash can.i am ashamed that i have been in the watchtower orginazation and in my prayer to jehovah i have said that i only belong to him.

Welcome, Nordic.
I, too, tossed a bunch of WT junk. My personal viewpoint was that it was totally dangerous garbage that I didn't want anyone else to read so hence I did not feel comfortable with selling it to someone else. It all needs to disappear in a trash heap!
Just another opinion!

Trot just received this E-mail:
Greetings, I am Paul Baba, Bank Manager of ORIENT BANK OF NIGERIA, Lagos Branch. I have urgent and very
confidential business proposition for you. On November 1997, an American oil consultant/contractor with the Nigerian
National Petroleum Corporation, Mr. Barry Kelly made a numbered time (Fixed) deposited for twelve calendar months,
valued at US$25,000,000.00 (Twenty-five Million Dollars) in my branch. Upon maturity, I sent a routine notification to his
forwarding address but got no reply. After a month, we sent a reminder and finally we discovered from his contract
employers, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation that Mr. Barry Kelly died from an automobile accident. On further
investigation, I found out that he did not leave a WILL and all attempts to trace his next of kin were fruitless. I therefore
made further investigation and discovered that Mr. Barry Kelly did not declare any next of kin in all his official documents,
including his Bank Deposit paperwork. This sum of US$25,000,000.00 is still sitting in the Bank and the interest is being
rolled over with the principal sum at the end of each year. No one will come forward to claim it. According to the Nigerian
Law, at the expiration of 5 (five) years, the money will revert to the ownership of the Nigerian Government if nobody applies
to claim the funds. Consequently, my proposal is that I will like you as a foreigner to stand in as the next of kin to Mr.
Barry Kelly so that the fruits of this old mans labor will not get into the hands of some corrupt officials. This is simple, I will
like you to provide me immediately with your full names and address so that the attorney will prepare the necessary
documents and affidavits, which will put you in place as the next of kin. We shall employ the services of two attorneys for
drafting and notarization of the WILL and obtain the necessary documents and letter of probate/administration in your favor
the transfer. A bank account in any part of the world, which you provide, will then facilitate the transfer of this money to you
as the beneficiary/next of kin. The money will be paid into your account for us to share in the ratio of 60% for me and 40%
for you. There is no risk at all as all the paperwork for this transaction will be done by the attorney and my position as the
Branch Manager guarantees the successful execution of this transaction. If you are interested, please reply immediately
via the private email address below. Upon your response, I shall then provide you with more details and relevant documents
that will help you understand. Please observe utmost confidentiality, and rest assured that this transaction would be most
profitable for both of us because I shall require your assistance to invest my share in your country. Awaiting your urgent
reply via email : [email protected]
CONFIDENTIAL my foot! Invest HIS share in MY country? Right!

Hi, AlphaPlus: I'm so glad you decided to post. You will receive a great deal of support here and won't feel like you're all alone in your trials.
Do what you feel you want to do in your heart but my advice is that you must take action and put together a plan. When you do, you will be proactive and not reactive. Make new friends as quickly as possible. That will ease the situation somewhat. Start putting together a plan for possibly moving out if you have to. You may not have to depending on the reaction of your grandparents. Then, and only when those pieces are in place, be honest with your grandparents. You will know where to go to from there. If you don't get baptized, you won't get involved in the DFng or DAng process. There probably will be some flak, however, from your JW friends and most probably you will be considered bad association. They may or may not react. Others on this board can give a better opinion on that scenario.
When you start taking action, you will feel better. You can always talk to us for support and, if you make an effort to make friends outside the congregation, you will have someone to at least socialize with. However, they will not be able to relate to the JW experience so be prepared for that. I know I wasn't and it was very frustrating for me to try to get them to understand. I post that part of my frustration on this board and simply keep my other social life on a laid back friendly basis rather than spiritual. The spiritual aspect of my life I work out here and in private. This takes time and it's okay to take a spiritual break, as long as you do not leave God out of your life entirely. Healing and trusting again will take time. God knows this. There will be time for you to recover spiritually and by all means get baptized in the appropriate way and not through the Borg. I would not want to discourage anyone from dedicating their lives to Jesus.
And by the way, there are plenty of nice young ones out there to associate with. Just continue to use your bible-trained conscience, however, and don't get involved with kids who are involved in things that you know go against God's laws. Get involved with more Christian friends. There are some on this board who will disagree with that but, IMHO, I can see no good coming from getting involved with the wrong crowd.
Graduating when you were 15???? That says something right there.
Hang in there and use that sharp noddle you got. {{{{{HUGS}}}}}
