"Evidently to give credence to their belief, the Samaritans changed a passage in the fifth book of Moses to read “Gerizim” instead of “Ebal.”"
Came across this quote last night.
I was slightly surprised to see an Awake article admitting that "corruption" of bible texts started so early, even before the time of Jesus.
I was wondering a couple of things:
- How do we/they know that the Samaritans changed the passage? Presumably there are multiple copies of that text in existance that can be compared, or testimony of the time that it was changed?
- If the WTBTS is willing to admit that corruption of bible texts started so early, then how can they be so sure that the text they have today isn't totally corrupted?
