I, too have had those feelings lately. I just read a book that totally changed my life. For any of you that are interested, it is entitled, "10 Secrets for Success and Inner Peace" by Dr. Wayne Dyer. While I don't agree with everything he says (I also just finished some audio tapes that he puts out) I do believe that the information he provided has made a huge impact on the way I view life, God, and everything around me.

Are there any ex-missionaries here??
by fulano ini have been a missionary in the dominican republic for almost 10 years and i was wondering if there were any ex-missionaries on this forum.. i am back in my country now for 3 years and totally inactive.. what i noticed in those missionary-years was the lack of spiritual interest among the missionaries.. discussions were about rooms, cars and greater responsibilities, the bad territory.
and the local c.o.s and d.os.. was this only in the dr or are there other experiences??.
ere other experiences?

Fulano, thank you for a very interesting post. I hope that many more will see this, as it has been my experience with ex-missionaries, CO's and DO's and especially the rank & file, that their lives are concerned with personal things or gossiping about others in the congregation.
Room 215 brings out a very good point and sooooo true. Only once in a blue moon did I ever hear anyone come out of the hall talking about the talk. I do remember some excellent talks being given at the hall or assemblies, but the majority of the time it was the same old drizzle that I had heard for years and years. Usually, I left the meetings feeling destined to die at Armageddon because I would never measure up.

i got the word [that this wasn't da trute] from the holy spirit at around 2:15 p.m. -- in the middle of the talk on the tuesday (2nd day) of the summer convention.
i picked up my 'bookbag' and headed for the exit.. what was it that convinced you, right there in that moment that it wasn't the truth?

What was it that convinced you, right there in that moment that it wasn't the truth? Most of us here had twinges of doubt for a while. It took a long time for me to come to the reallization that I had been deceived my whole life.
Just curious!

IslandWoman, I am in exactly the same place as you. My 16-year old son started back to the meetings a few months ago to be with his friends and cousins. I thought it would be a phase, but I was wrong. He wanted to get baptized at this summers district convention but my husband and I put our foot down. We told him that when he turns 18, if he still wants to get baptized then that would be his choice and no one will be able to stop him.
Lately, he has started missing some meetings and I don't think he's been out in service in over a month. He got a summer job which has really started to change him a bit. He's frantically saving for a car and I suspect that once he has his regular drivings license and car, he may not be so interested in the meetings.
My husband and I also have made it clear to him that he WILL graduate from high school (no home-schooling for him like his older brothers) and he WILL definitely be going to college.

We need help
by Lee Elder inthis is a request to get some assistance in preparing an estimate of how many jehovah's witness children leave the religion during or after adolescence.
i know the figure is substantial based on my own observations, but we need some way to document it.
please put on your thinking cap and publish your ideas here.

It seems like Amazing or Maximus had a thread about this very subject, but it was a long time ago. I will see if I can find it for you. If it was by Amazing, maybe he will recall which one I'm talking about.

? about summer convention program
by TweetieBird inmy mother-in-law told me that the district convention is all about apostasy, the internet, and brought out about all those that have left the organization because of it.
since she has a tendency to embellish the truth, i though i would ask someone that actually went.
i know that she probably only said this because she knows that i have been "looking at apostate sites on the internet," therefore by telling me that the whole convention is about these things is suppose to somehow make me want to go now.

Anyway, if anyone has attended, please let me know if the whole assembly was dedicated to the topic of apostasy and the internet.
As a side note, when talking about the apostacy, she made sure to tell me that it was a prophesied in the bible as further proof that we are so near to Armageddon.

I feel for you Oz, but as someone who was in your daughters place years ago, try to be patient. I could never shun my dad, but I did seriously limit my association with him after he DA'd himself. It wasn't until after his death that I had an awakening. Now I could kick myself for all of the time I wasted not being around him. I would give my eye-teeth to spend just one hour with him now.
Hopefully your daughter will come to her senses before it's too late. I agree with what was said earlier, go and make sure she sees you, but let her come up to you. Kindness and unconditional love are the things that may awaken your daughter. It did with me.

I would say that most of the people on this board have read CofC. I highly recommend it and also it's companion, the Watchtower (oops, I meant) "In Search of Christian Freedom."
