Come on! Tell it like it is. People are LYING when they tell you, "I've read the Bible."
by Terry ingo ahead.
tell me.. "i've read the bible cover to cover.
i don't believe you.. it is damned near impossible!.

How can someone prove that s/he read it? Do you give tests?
What difference does it make if one has read it? The real issue is whether one follows it.
Does one follow what the Bible teaches from cover to cover?

How many anointed disciples were in the 1st Lord's Meal?
by hardtobeme inaccording to the bible, none... all 12 partook of the emblems.
jesus told them to partake even thought they were not anointed with holy spirit yet.
they were anointed at pentecost.... and judas was present too according to luke 22:21.. watchtower says that luke's chronological order is wrong.

Judas was present during the passover but left after it and prior to the Bread and wine passing.
Inspiration has nothing to do with whether there are mistakes or not. It is simply a historical matter. Inspiration is not relevant to that.

The Great Crowd Catch 22
by Perry injust had a two hour conversation with my father.
he is insistent that he will be able to enter the kingdom of god as a member of the 'great crowd'.
he did agree that only the annointed are declared righteous.

Perry, your writing style is like an evangelical.
Born Again.. Come on, it is Jesus speaking in riddles. His words don't matter, his actions do.

Was droping bomb on Hiroshima in 1945 evil?
by new hope and happiness insorry for such a depressing question, but i was moved by a picture i saw of the consequences.
( a woman carrying her child) and i realised:-.
a) it was a civillian population.. b) i don't see how a nuclear holocaust can ever be right.. c) they could have bombed tokyo where all the generals lived but chose hiroshima.. d) the irony after the bombing america conceeded to many of japans terms.. your opinion would be valued..

69 years ago. They all would be dead by now if it never happened. What difference would it have made.
But because it happened, they never got to have children which prevented over population and they had to build new factories and infrastructure which helped their future economy. Looking at it now, it was a good thing.

Are we imperfect from birth?
by Pinku inare we imperfect from birth?.
there may be some scriptures that say we are imperfect from birth because of (fictitious) adams sin.
such verses make no sense like many other prima-facie meaningless verses such as joshua 10:13; isaiah 40:26; john 3:13;11:26 ........ however, there are scriptures that say we are capable of displaying perfection which is already within us.

No, we are imperfect from conception.

You can't play lotto, but you can accept a lottery ticket.
by JH in.
can someone explain to me why a witness can't go and buy a lottery ticket for himself, but can keep a ticket they find on the ground or keep a ticket they receive as a gift from a worldly person.. that's the explaination the witnesses gave me when i joined many years ago.. if it's a sin to play lotto, why can they accept a ticket as a gift or keep one they could find?.

That always bothered me about repeating the phrase of the god of good luck. What they did back then for luck is not the same as today. Just throwing out phrases because it is in the Bible. Not a good reason to avoid something.

Gumby said: "Why do witnesses go to the state fair or local carnival.....and pay $1 to see if they can knock down 3 bottle so they can maybe win a big stuffed teddy bear? They pay money for the CHANCE they might win. Most lose as do those who play the slot machines or buy a lottery ticket.....no difference.
You could get disfellowshipped for losing 20 bucks in a casino or buying lotto tickets, yet throw darts at the carnival with your elder buddy tryin to win a big teddy bear with a big beer in your hand, and no problem. Go figure."
That is because carnival games are based on skill. Throwing darts or balls is a skill, not a chance.
I don't see how and why any of that would be DFing offense. As long as the person is not irresponsbile or addicted. One can blow $20 or $50 anywhere, but why is it considered more bad to do so at a casino?

A Sphere is Not a Circle
by AK - Jeff inthis thread was inspired by the poster here with that moniker.
that name, for the first time in my life, caused me to think deeply about the scriptural real meaning of the phrase used in isaiah, often used by biblical defenders to show it's inspiration by god.. i googled the phrase, and among other hits, found this little blogspace with comments that echoed my thought on the matter.. http://www.youngausskeptics.com/2008/12/what-you-really-think-a-sphere-is-a-circle-you-really-think-that/.
found it interesting.. jeff.

Sparky1, what do you find humorous about it?
Back then they only saw the sun and moon as circles, not spheres. They didn't have 3d. I don't think they had the capabilities to produces anything completely spherical, would they know what that is? A orange would be the closest thing they could find.
