  The often used illustration of a watch found in the desert. You know it didn't just appear there on its own. Someone had to make it.

  With creation also someone had to make it. But with the watch, if its not working, you can take it to its maker and he can fix it.

  With creation, with it not working can anyone call on the maker to fix it? They can call on him, and have been for millenia, but has he fixed it?

  While a supreme being created everything, that is not the problem. The problem is that he has left everything in a broken state for thousands of years unwilling to fix it.

  The excuse that is given is that man was given thousands of years to be allowed to try various governments. But that shouldn't stop God from acting. It is like the federal government having laws, but if the local or state governments doing something to violate those higher laws, the people can petition the higher government to fix it. When the national governments did things against God and people, people have petitioned God, to no avail. Man has done more to help man than God has done.

  But that didn't give him authority. It didn't change him, he changed himself.

  Another 607 / 587 BCE question, How do JW's fix the 20 years ??

  ok, since all the evidence and people/scholars etc, all agree that jerusalem was destroyed in 587/586 bce and not 607 bce.

  how do the jw's get the extra 20 years, i understand the 2520 years and going back from 1914. but alot of the proof goes by adding up the kings reigns, and it gets you to the 587/586 date, do jw's simply add on a few years for each king, or is their a mystery king that ruled for 20 years that only they know about.. hhhhhhmmmmmmm.

  hope my question makes sense.

  JWs didn't do that. It was Nelson Barbour who added the 20 years to make 70 years from 537 to 607 and made 607 when Zedikiah was captured.

  Russell just took his Chronology without question. But I see that so many of you are just as unenlightened on the subject.

  in an earlier thread, i mentioned that i wasn't a particularly doggy person but that my parents got a husky last year that i've come to regard as a kind of brother.. huskies superficially resemble wolves and for me it's been fun to compare and contrast husky and wolf behaviour.

  huskies howl but rarely bark, and seem to have a strong prey drive and a strong pack instinct - a nod to their wild cousins.

  this is why i love huskies, i think.. do you have a favourite dog breed and why?.

  were you ever counseled for "running ahead of jehovah's organization?".

  did you have to be told that you needed to "wait on jehovah"?.

  I ran ahead of the organization.

  Where do you think that the org got many of its ideas?

  They steal ideas and of course take the credit themselves.

  Without us running ahead, they would be so far behind.

  need i point out the watchtower corporation is run by men over eager to pass off misconceptions, and other dishonest nonsense as truth?.

  not only do they see a snake where there is only a tree root, but they make mountains of theological taboos where there is barely a discernible molehill.. before we get into the depth of our topic, lets look at some innocent origins of everyday things.. christians and jews have been using calendars for centuries to mark the holy days they celebrate to the glory of god.

  but calendars were first developed among the pagans, based on their observation of the motions of the sun, moon and planets (the same origin as astrology!).

  That's an easy one. The thought is that they are right and are removing the badness to be pleasing to God. The problem with that is that over the years God has become callous to that. Just like Ed Sullivan censored Elvis' swiveling hips but today no one cares, because it is just silly, in the past God saw the development of the holidays and took notice, thought they were stupid, but over the centuries ended up saying "who cares" and "whatever". In the 1930 he saw a people that rejected the holidays, but did he really care? He knew many non-Christians and non-religious rejected them also. What's the difference?

  In the Law to Moses, he gave stern examples to the people. Apostle Paul used those as examples. But Christianity died out after the apostles. The meaning of those lessons died out too.

  Just saw the new JW.org sign on the local KH sign

  i work about a block from the local kh and i notice there was no jw.org sign on it.

  i said to my wife are they not following the cults rules on this.

  will just yesterday as i was driving home from work there it was on the corner of the kh sign jw.org it was about 1 foot x 1 foot in size.

  I drove by the Hall that I have not been to since June. There is a 8x8 sign attached to the bigger sign that says jw.org

  The elders there are all Society men, which is the reason that I have not been back there as I can't stand them.

  It seems to me that they are inviting people to go to jw.org and then when they do, they don't need to go to the Kingdom Hall,

  so their plan will backfire. When they go to people's doors, the people will say: "I get my stuff from jw.org, so get lost".
