if you are romantic, and believe in the underdog, then tonight is an occasion when an extraordinary sporting achievement can become reality.
i am not saying it's as great an achievement as man landing on the moon, but i hope this thread continues after tonight and concludes with wales beating germany in the final on sunday.
now that really would be an achievement more remarkable than man landing on the moon,,.. anyone else watching the game tonight?.

i often read that ct russell was more influenced by "age-to-come" christians than adventist christians.
what exactly is "age to come" christianity?
what are some of its denominations?
I had access to another excerpt of "Separate Identity" (I wish I could buy the work, but there's no e-book version):
Christadelphians and One Faith movement are considered Age to Come churches.
And, apparently, Age to Come faiths pre-date the Millerite movement.

Most references I find are coming from the (excellent) work "A Separate Identity - Organizational Identity Among Readers Of Zion's Watch Tower 1870-1887" by B. W. Shulz and R. M. de Vienne (Fluttering Wings Press, 2014), but I've seen it in other places.
On a footnote of that book, there's this entry: "Age to Come is a biblical phrase. It was used early in the Millerite movement, but not always to Literalist doctrine. The term was not exclusive to Millerites and Literalists but being a biblical phrase was used by others". (p. 55)
Seems to me the authors are referring to churches that emerged from a subset of the Millerite movement (p. 56) BUT didn't evolve into Adventism?

Any reference works about the subject?

so some may have read the long and boring post about our last vacation and some of the things that my wife came to tell me during our time away.
i am adding the link here but i can summarize it for time's sake.. https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/5768475763015680/vacation-time-reality-closing-up-on-my-wife.
in a nutshell, right before we left, we found out of a jw couple we know well.
That sounds like progress, definitively! Keep doing what you're doing, don't push it too hard too fast, be gentle with her. Your marriage is paramount, and you're on the right track to protect it. Keep us posted!

so i finally got a chance to sit at a private pc and join up.
recently exiled from jwr, born in, faded 20 years ago, separated two years ago.
.
Welcome!
i came across this weird blog that castigates fading jws for their "cowardice" and "hypocrisy" for not making themselves vulnerable to shunning.
apparently in the view of this blogger jws who discover it's not the truth are morally obliged to play by the watchtower rules and face the consequences of shunning.. http://jwresearchblog.blogspot.co.uk/2015/06/fading-faking-and-lying-as-unbelieving.html#comment-form.
what is absent from the blog post is any discussion of the statement in the july 2009 awake!, that no one should be made to choose between their beliefs and their family.
the statement in the July 2009 Awake!, that no one should be made to choose between their beliefs and their family.
Since when what was written in the JW publications has stopped any JW drone from mindlessly obey what the GB commands them to do? That statement obviously applies to OTHERS, not the JW's.
Take, for example, the statement that Knorr included on the book "Is This Life All there Is?":
"It is obvious that the true God, who is himself "the God of truth" and who hates lies, will not look with favor on persons who cling to organizations that teach falsehood. (Psalm 31:5; Proverbs 6:16-19; Revelation 21:8) And, really, would you want to be even associated with a religion that had not been honest with you?"
Tell me: How many JW's, even admitting that the Organization has taught wrong teachings in the past, will apply these words to themselves?
Eden
not me surprisingly.
i thought i would be the one to go first.
this coming week my hubby is being announced as no longer being a jw.
Congratulations! Your husband has put his money where his mouth is. Well done for protecting your child from this harmful and heartless cult.

judge sanctions jehovah's witnesses.
imposes $4000-a-day penalty for not producing documents in sex-abuse case.
by dorian hargrove, june 24, 2016. a san diego superior court judge has ordered the church of jehovah's witnesses, also known as the watchtower bible and tract society of pennsylvania, to pay $4000 a day for every day that it fails to produce documents requested in a civil lawsuit brought by former parishioner, osbaldo padron, who claims a church elder sexually abused him when he was seven years old.. in a june 23 ruling, expected to be made final today, judge richard strauss admonished the church for willfully ignoring a court order to produce all documents associated with a 1997 body of elders letter that church leaders sent to parishes around the world in a quest to learn about sexual abuse of children by church leaders.. over the course of the past year, the watchtower society and its lawyers have fought hard to keep the letter confidential, claiming that turning over the documents would infringe on the privacy of those mentioned in the letter that were not associated with the case.. in march 2015, the church turned over a heavily redacted version of the letter.
Don't hold back Flipper. Tell us what you really think ;)
