When I was a sixties dub they were the men in grey, in the seventies we were the men in brown and in the eighties the men in blue, then sometimes in the '90's they became the men in black. Be more fun for apostates if dub men coordinated suits with their colorful book collection. .. Oh look darling, the witnesess are bloomin' green this year.

JWs as portayed in the media
by Nathan Natas inthis is a spin-off from the thread about bill maher's omission of jws from his film, "religulous" that shamus100 started.. i cannot recall ever seeing the jw misology accurately portrayed in the media.
most recently there was the premiere episode of us tv series "lie to me" in which the supposed jw kid said that he was praying for the souls of some people.
at that point i changed the channel.

No you're not alone NN. There's a lot of bs out there in the media's representation of JW's.
Much of it is ridiculous and others such as this seem real enough but ... well something doesn't seem right.
I keep watching it trying to find the flaw:

Yeah, looking back, you might be right gregor :/
I guess there's an occational rogue sneeks into god's chosen organization but I can't imagine men such as these giving improper winks:

Trouble shooting was just par for the course. Congregations often need a cleansing. Rogue Elders and squabbles between Elders being the main cause of friction and a congregations morale spiraling down. If a congregation lacked growth and looked stagnant we'd say Jehovah's angel has removed it's blessing. The theory being that Jehovah wouldn't want new people to attach to a diing limb (this all looks like very stoopid reasoning now of course).
In the early 1980's, a friend of mine was sent to sort out Adelaide's Greek congregation but things were so bad he was instructed to split it up between the surrounding English speaking congregations. More commonly Circuit and District Servants/Overseers were sent to 'come down like a ton of Jehovah' on congregation Elders. As a pioneer it amused me to watch Elders leaving such a meeting looking shocked and with tail up between their legs, only to have the District Overseer give me a big smile and a knowing wink.

By those figures, it seems dubs are no more or less law abiding than anyone else. That said, I think most dubs 'tollerate' 'worldly law' rather than having a deep believe in personal integrity and appreciation for order bought by the 'secular authorities.'
You might be a Jehovah's Witness if: you view jail time as a good preaching oportunity.

Better look back on what you've said about someone else
by Dogpatch ina texas judge has ordered an online news site to unveil identifying details about 178 anonymous commenters on the site.
the order came after a couple, mark and rhonda lesher, sued the numerous anonymous commenters posting to topix.com for making what they considered to be "perverted, sick, vile, inhumane accusations" about them.

I'd just say my hate speech is a part of my religion. Works for one group I happen to know about.
geez a religion ain't nuthin' without hate speech.
In a case here recently a bloke was fined over $100,000 in defamation damages over insults on a web forum. In another case a school kid was fined over $20,000 and given a period of 'community service' over bullying text messages sent to his peers. As well as that, before the Pope's recent visit, the state of NSW passed laws that made it an offence to 'offend a christian' (poor little God botherers). No wonder JWO is cleaning up its act lol.

Life on paradise earth would be a totalitarian nightmare. Dubs are seduced by dreams of a free and easy life but the reality would be five meetings a week and field service forever and ever. Loud speakers in the trees and Kingdom Melodies on endless loop making Guantanamo Bay look like a boy scout camp.
Call it what you will, there's only one game in town and that's the seeking, maintaining and exercising power over the minds and lives of others. Apart from mass printing, it's the only area I know where Watchtower Society has genuine expertise.

Too many people
by John Doe intry to turn internet discussions into their own personal pissing matches.
how much can anyone learn and what knowledge can be expanded when posters vest a personal interest in a position, rather than a personal interest in learning?
this never has made sense to me.. .

Good point Gregor,
Personally I love the idea of global warming if it means an ocean rise of about three metres.
Because then I'll have beach front land only 50 yards down the hill.
But alas I reckon the science is as dodgy as the vested interests promoting it.
self-interest unc, who has to drive too far for a swim.
