SATAN the DEVIL

in fairness to god, i thought it was time that we focus in the devil a minute.

that sounds rather odd.

what has satan done, at least assuming he is more than a myth, and that the bible record is accurate.

I have thought about this problem also. If the Devil was trying to prove that man and himself could rule themselves, why would he influence man to do bad things? He would try to make life the best he could to show God to be wrong. Especially making things like mosquitoes, ticks, fleas and parasites along with all the bad viruses. Was the Devil ever given permission to create things? Isn't Christ supposed to be the creator of everything? Somebody really messed up creation. I was watching a horse in a field near my home and the flies were making him very uncomfortable and for what reason, they were hungry. Life must not be very important in nature as almost everything must be eaten or eat some other form of life, including humans. It does seem to work though, at least so far.

Wife and Sister-in-law

i think my wife and her sister are finally seeing the truth about the churches they have been associated with.

i have been going with them to the church services and pointing out the inconsistences of the dogma that is preached.

i'm not trying to destroy their faith in god but sometimes my comments may seem that way.

Thanks for the info. I have read Thomas Paine's book but not Karen Armstrong's "A History of God". I will give it a look. It has been interesting observing the character of other religions from the inside. It seems the core of all religions are about the same, a set of beliefs to try to explain our existance and the hereafter. Some are more controlling than others, some have more humane ideals than others, but they are all based on fear of this life or the future. Those that I have observed seem to waste our life and money, at least from my point of view right now. There are good, honest people in and out of religious orgs. and the oposite kinds in both places. Life goes on.

I think my wife and her sister are finally seeing the truth about the churches they have been associated with. I have been going with them to the church services and pointing out the inconsistences of the dogma that is preached. I'm not trying to destroy their faith in God but sometimes my comments may seem that way. I am having a hard time keeping any faith in the God of the bible, there are too many things that don't add up. It would be great to have faith in God but my reason won't let me without ignoring so many facts that contradict his professed love of humankind. I haven't given up yet but it doesn't look too good right now.

I have a lot of precious memories of my family when we were JWs, but it was in spite of being Jws not because of it. I miss the many friends I had through the years, most are dead now, but sometimes I reflect back on the good times and remember that not any of them expected to die before the "New World" was a fact. There have been so many of my family that had their hopes and dreams disapear with time.
I was of the younger generation that beleived and I'm 65 now, so most of the older generation has passed on. It's kind of sad to recall these memories.

Hi All,

I wasn't demeaning my sister-in-law when I called her a fundie, she is really a good person and doesn't push her religion on me, she knows better than to try that. I actually have attended her church to see for my self what type of people are there and how they view religion. I have concluded that different churches attract similar segments of the community. Most members will be from the same society.
(A group of humans broadly distinguished from other groups by mutual interests, participation in characteristic relationships, shared institutions, and a common culture)

She doesn't get angry when I tell her that it's bunch of crap(all religious dogma). She says God will have to reveal it to me. I'm waiting?

Hi Rex,

If you born again Christians really believed you go to heaven to meet God at death, why do you fight death with every thing in your power. If I beleived that, I would be hoping my children would die and me with them. If those gold streets and beautiful mansions were really what you believed were your reward why delay it? I think you have doubts, now fess up.

This might have been a little unfeeling on my part but she was talking to my wife about a tragic happening in her life 26 years ago. Her only child died a few days after birth. She was recalling what a friend had told her when it happened. She said, well you can have another child and that will help overcome you grief. She said how could anyone think like that?

I said, well that's the way God thinks. Remember Job? God let all his children be killed and by giving him more children he was considered blessed. And that was just to prove to the devil that someone would worship him without being bribed by wealth and children. She didn't have an answer.

1975 Reaction

this past weekend, one of the few remaining jw relatives who will still discuss jw stuff with me told me about his recently attending a home bible study being conducted by an elder.

evidently, the study had been told or had picked up some info about the 1975 fiasco.

the elder totally denied that the society had stated or even led people to believe that armageddon would occur in 1975, and he naturally blamed some individual jws for misinterpreting the society's materials.

I remember what went on until 1973, I left the org during this time as I was tired of having all my time and energy tied up by my duties in the congregation. I moved away so I could dump my position as PO and have a life again. I moved back about a year later and didn't continue my association with the cong. I didn't beleive the end was coming in 1975 anyway.

Please help me with the forum

keeping a balance in what is allowed and what is not is very difficult and is more difficult if i have to take action against one person when i have let other things go by others.. it would help a lot if we could stop the personal attacks and some of the name calling & insults that are thrown about.

i know personalities do and will clash but please disagree about the subjects being discussed and not get personal!.

if you think someone is deliberately trying to cause arguments please do not respond to them as this is giving in to what they want.

Hi Simon,

Like the other members of this board I feel you have the right to do whatever you feel is best for your board. Friday is the only one here that has tried to rile me with his comments. At first it made me mad, then I realized that it was just his character and I would just accept that as one of his faults. I didn't bother to read his insults to Joel, so I can't comment on that.

I don't mind his negative comments, it gives me something to think about or ignore as I decide to do. It reveals his character, which I don't like, but he probably doesn't like me either, but I don't care when someone like him doesn't like me. It makes me feel better about myself.

So whatever you choose to do I will support it, you have shown yourself to be a well balanced and fair person.

i would like to know why you still beleive in god and what, based upon the bible, leads you to believe in god.. i likethe scripture that states the earth was a circle and hung upon nothing.

i also find that there is evidence the flood existed.

anybody know the stats of the "supposed" ark on mr. ararat?.

This is a question that I am working through myself right now. I have noticed too many things that don't jive with the explaination of God's love in the bible.

Nature is attributed to God's creative power through Christ. When I see nature at work I see many marvelous things, but I also see many useless and cruel things. Earthquakes, storms and floods, famine due to no rain. Think of the different diseases, not just in man but all living things, plant and animal. Why did God make these? Sin doesn't explain these. As far as the bible flood, have you taken a serious look at the problems with the bible's account? I'm having a very hard time with the concept of a God who refuses to reveal himself to those he wishes to worship him.

This one is definitely worth saving in my collection of valuable post.
Thanks for your thoughtful examination of the "truth" and GB. How could anyone read this without going back to meetings and regaining his faith in God's organization? I can't wait to go out in service tomorrow and place magazines, or is it tracts now? My relatives will be so happy to get me back under the control of the GB. I don't care if the 1914 generation last for two more generations, I won't have time to think about it anymore since I will be going to all those meetings. I'm so excited.
