Karaoke Contests - Rant
by Nosferatu ini've just recently entered into (another) karaoke contest.
i've been in quite a few, but have never placed first despite the fact that i can usually wow an audience.
the thing is, i've mostly seen women win these things.

Many years ago, pre karaoke, there was air guitar. The local premier rock club had weekly contests so my brother, a friend of ours and myself went to have a look at what the hoopla was all about. These acts were LAME. Virtually all just more or less stood there doing the lip sync part and that was it. My brother got this look in his eye and said we were going to enter and blow any other act away. We were going to do The Who's "My Generation" complete with mock up cardboard instruments and suitable cartoonish wardrobe.
Long story short, we did blow everyone away and the audience loved us and we destroyed ALOT of cardboard (drop kicked my drums into the audience) as well as a little mayhem with the real bands equipment (oops!). However, we did not win. 1st place went to the six
trampsbabes in hot pants and loose halter tops. As hot as they were though, I don't think they would have won if not for singing a, uh, rousing rendition of Jimmy Buffet's "Why Don't We Get Drunk And Screw?". And yes, they did get my voteThe air/cabbage head women just have winning contests pretty much all sown up. It's their lot in life so don't begrudge them that.

Loaded words
by Odrade ini know this subject has been done before, but.... some words we used as jws have a different meaning to us, even now.
encourage, truth, witness, apostate, worldly... .
so how did those words get so loaded?

the phrase "peace and security".
If there's loaded language that still sometimes bothers me it's this phrase. Not as fearful of it as I used to be but it still conjures up those WT images...hehe, just couldn't resist saying that about the WT on halloween.

Someone is hurting
by donkey ini am writing this thread because i hope it fosters some positive communication although i may end up being deleted for it.. to start with a discliamer: i am no fan of stinkypantz posts - they just aren't that interesting to me.. that being said i now see sp was deleted.
my first reaction to that was anger.
sp posted stuff about being close to a nervous breakdown, wishing she could just "disappear" etc....she is obviously someone in pain right now.. we have been constantly censured about how this is a place of healing and we need to keep it that way for people who need healing, support and comfort.. so i only hope sp has been "temporarily suspended" (not deleted) for her own good and no because she pissed off some moderator.

In chatting with Bridget on occasion I've always found her to be friendly and kind so I hope she's doing ok and finds her way back here. Take care (((Stinky)))

Witness Costume Parties?
by shamus indoes anyone remember a watchtower saying that costume parties were inappropriate for christians?
i seem to remember that they were labeled in the "deamon" category, even if you had one and it had nothing to do with halloween.. is this true?
does anyone remember this crap?

You know, thinking back on it, the ONLY party I EVER got to attend as a witness was one single solitary baby shower and that when I was about 6 or 7. Sheesh, is it any wonder I can't cope. lol
BUT, I do have photos of a certain witness costume party in the Fall circa late 70's. Fonz was there as was some caveman dude as well as a particular relative of mine in drag. Oh, the shame of it all
