Another Googleite here. It's fast and simple. I use the Yahoo Maps sometimes but that's about it for Yahoo anymore. When I'm searching I don't need to see gazzilliondyumpteen ads and latest news flashes.

What search engine do you most often use and why?
by berylblue invery curious...there's a reason for this question.
does anyone perceive if there is a proclivity toward a certain engine if one is, say, computer savvy?
college grad?

Jehovah gets all the credit
by Nosferatu in.
i remember hearing (probably on the organization behind the name video) that there is no author listed on any watchtower publication, therefore all "praise" is given to jehovah god.. what a rip off.
if someone who has written articles in the wt or awake gets kicked out leaves bethel and needs to go work in the real world, he can't use any of the articles he wrote in his port folio.

by Dawn inif we want to worship god acceptably, we must know the truth.
this is an important issue.
our eternal happiness depends on it.

... greatest Bible scholar who has ever lived namely Frederick William Franz ...
Oh my achin' azz. Well, uh, I do believe I've heard it all now, anti-typically speaking.
Take out the space in the credentials and you'll get a clearer picture of this whole mess.

Who doesn't follow the "politics" and feuds on this board?
by berylblue ini am so in the dark.
i do not know what's going on and, quite frankly, i don't care to.
perhaps there is bliss in ignorance.

I stay away from the fueding threads. Saw way too much of that arguing crap growing up and I have no desire to get involved with it in real life and even less so here.

Why Aren't Jehovah's Witnesses Allowed To Freely Express Themselves?
by minimus init's a simple fact.
jw's cannot freely express themselves.
they can't freely tell another about a doubt or a question that they might have for fear they could be exposed to the elders.

All organizations prescribe order and discipline as a vital constituent of their organism.
He's quite right you know. But it's not only corporate organizations etc. that fit the bill. Name one cult that does not prescribe order and discipline in their ranks. David Koresh surely prescribed it as did Jim Jones etc. etc. etc.

Raised a JW... did you have a childhood?
by ignorance is strength inpersonally i was quite serious at a young age.. there was no "boys will be boys" growing up.
personally i feel kind of cheated out of a childhood by an organization that forced you to think that "everything around you was going to be gone soon so you better grow up, start publishing, and giving talks.
" did any of you experience a less than stellar childhood, especially because of the lack of holidays and socially-isolating religion gowing up?

I was going through old family photos last night and it's just so apparent. The early photos of me show a happy normal kid always smiling and just, well, normal. Then, when I was 5, my mom became a witness hook, line and sinker and there is just an obvious difference that I can see in my photos. All of a sudden comes the isolation that so many of us felt as well as the fear of watching the sudden destruction of everything in front of your very eyes "any day now". It takes it's toll.
Now, I understand that there have always been those that have suffered infinitely more than I have and of course I don't mean just JW's. The suffering of people is an unfortunate constant but that whole "but for the grace of god...." thing only goes so far. Personal happiness and contentment can be based on the suffering of others. Well, unless you happen to be a serial killer I suppose. I'm rambling, shut me up!

MY CONSULTING TRIP TO BETHEL (starting over) PART 6
by seven006 inwithin a few weeks i leased a condo on the banks of the willamette river just out side the city of portland.
as she got into her car she looked at me funny again, laughed and just shook her head.. .
i told him that if i said i was sorry, i knew that is what they wanted to hear but it was not the truth.

I'll have to agree. The bar / meat market scene and the Harlot image flashing before your eyes as described is priceless! Since I don't dance either, I can understand the sudden emotions (fear) and sweating from being pulled to a dance floor. Great storytelling and like everyone else, I'm anxious for more.

Favorite epitaphs/ Your epitaph
by bebu ini've always "enjoyed"(?
) walking thru cemeteries, especially older ones, when i travel.
i guess that's because in the western us we really don't have very many old cemeteries, and i find it an interesting window on history and lives.. in lexington, there was a grave that had the headstone marked with "i told you i was sick" (at least, that's what we heard on a local tv news story while we lived there).
-
DFWnonJW
somewhere I'm sure there's a jw's headstone that reads "Stayed Alive till '75"
or...."millions now living..." You know the rest I'm sure. :)
or.... just chillin'

Are you related to anyone famous?
by Mulan ini thought this might be a fun "fluff" thread.
someone posted the other day that marc anthony (the singer) is their cousin.
i have done extensive genealogy research so i know a few famous relatives.
-
DFWnonJW
Chalk up another to Benedict Arnold's ancestry (or so I've always heard). Other than that, the only other "famous" relative I've ever heard of was an old Dallas Cowboy named John Niland. Supposedly a distant cousin or somesuch. So I guess all in all I'd have to say no, not related to anyone famous.

Usually, several entities would vie for time on the board in a given session. It’s like they had to compete with ‘each other’ for their time to speak
Sounds like the Ouija board is the "Other Worlds Internet Service". Hmmmm, I wonder.....
