My son & his friends had the day off school when the new Halo 4 came out. We had preordered so were at the shop at 8am when it opened, he ran home from the store to start playing. His friend snuck out of the house at 'midnight & rode his bike to a 12am launch.
he said the new halo was the most exciting thing that had ever happened in his life!
We also went to the big games expo here where they had sneak previews & Cosplay. Lined up for over an hour to trial the new COD, the boys behind us in the line were almost crying with excitement. It was actually such a great energy. I loved it & we are even considering dressing up next year & going over multiple days....it's that much fun!!!

This story makes me laugh & kinda reminds me of when my primary age daughter came home & went on the computer upstairs to work on a project. What are you doing it on? I called up the stairs......."cute pussies" was the reply.....I ran up those stairs so fast....

I asked an elder today...from the horse's mouth!
by Julia Orwell intoday's watchtower made out that the combining of branch offices around the world is a loving provision from jehovah to streamline the production, but i had to ask an elder afterwards, even though i already knew the answer.... "if the wts is selling off bethels and brooklyn property and cutting the publishing costs and commitments, then where is all that money going?".
elder replies, "well the donations are just not coming in anymore and so they have to sell off property to stay afloat.".
gee, i thought if this was jehovah's approved organisation carrying vital truth to the world, then he'd be making sure the donations would be sufficient.

Good question Julia, don't forget they don't have the usual overheads of a publishing company, and their tax free religious status. Most of the halls I see have been around for 20 or 30 years, so they are not buying new premises. Who knows?

Hey Gojira, Your grandmother sounds a bit scary to me, reminds me of the old timers in some of the halls I was at. If she is a stickler for honesty she is in for some nasty surprises if she finds out about any of the lies the WTBT$ has told over the years.......if she is able to listen that is. All the best to you & your family. Sounds like you are in for some interesting times.

How many of you followed the WTS direction on education years ago and have been screwed by it?
by Julia Orwell ini'm really interested in this question because i've heard for years that if you forgo further education and go pioneering, when you have a family down the track you will get a good job because jehovah will provide for you because you pioneered.
as long as i was a kool-aid drinker, even then, i thought, "how does pioneering pay your bills?
surely education should come first.

Hey julia, When I grew up in the 80s it was more than just "discouraged".
When I reached 15 my mother said she could no longer support my worldly desire to stay at school. My dad set up a secret bank account & put cash in it so I could survive. A sister in the congregation a year ahead of me went to 1 term of University, she had to drop out, I don't remember if she was reproved publicly or privately? Anyway, so much pressure was placed that she had to leave.
the brothers from the 80s & 90s are the ones I feel most sad for. A lot of them have had their health ruined by years or cleaning or building work. Their backs are wrecked & I can't even imagine how hard it would be to have to provide for a family without an education.
Years later I went to university, and I now have a degree (yay!).
No wonder they never let us go to uni, too much exposure to real writings, studies, research & thought! How shit does WTS literature look when compared to even first year university texts?
But, I would say I chose my studies based on practicalilties (health science) and I regret that.
I still hope that one day ill get to go & just do what I want to......which would probably be a mix of history, literature, philosophy etc. no practical things allowed!!!!!

Was it hard for you as a JW to be around girls or boys?
by suavojr inthis picture brings back some memories.... .
what happens when a 14 year old boy gets bombarded about how evil it is to feel a natural attraction towards the opposite sex?.
first - you encounter the robot from lost in space, yelling danger, danger!.

There is so much damage done to us by this kind of JW parenting.
I was never allowed anywhere near boys, but, the second anyone expressed interest my mum started talking marriage. I got the feeling that once I was in puberty I was like a "hot potato" and she was just dying to get me married to the first available man so she would not have the responsibility to make sure nothing ever "happened" to me.
You know, it's all about what's "seen" to be correct, not what actually happens. Elders kids I knew got away with all kinds of misbehavior. whereas a famly like mine, my mum was always striving to be seen as being above reproach, so she was far stricter than other parents. She was so afraid of what others might think of her, she took it all out on us.
Someone in the congregation wrote me letters, and gave me gifts, secretly, he was probably 16. It was a really lovely thing, and it was the first time I had ever received a present.
I can't tell you how awful it was when she found out, she publicly returned all of his gifts IN THE FOYER of the hall, loudly telling him that if he wanted to talk to her daughter he had to talk to her first.
Even typing this now I still feel a hot & prickly feeling of shame/tears/horror, god only knows what it was like for him.
The thing was, we were friends and it was ruined, we never spoke much again ( this was pre Internet & it was easy to lose touch with people ).
As a female you are made to feel so bad/guilty about absolutely anything to do with the opposite sex. I agree that the way they talk to you, you feel so guilty, like you have sinned, when you have done nothing!

Most of us on this site know the WTS very well, we were raised by them, and have seen their dark side, how they react when questioned, threatened, challenged.
the working with children check, is a basic safeguard.
I got one for working in a hospital, my husband got one, because he volunteered at a rugby league club, everyone has to have this, it's no big deal. It's basically running a criminal record check.
What is offensive is that the WTS thinks it is above the law of this country.
To those of us who know the WTS, does Steve's story sound plausible? Yes, it does, so I believe it because it ties in with what I know of them.
Well done Steve!
I look forward to following this as it unfolds.
