Beans hun...I'm not trying to confuse you.
I was sexually abused by a man professing to be jw. I left to get answers...and now that I found them...I'm back. I used to practice satanism, then wiccan and yes seances were part of it among other things. I was also a binge drinker and a potsmoker...mostly tho these were my teen years.
I no longer practice these things and have rid myself of divination tools.
However...I will always believe that there are spirits out there that would like to see us come to harm.
This post was to see if anyone else had a similar experience with seances...
Again....I don't think I mentioned anything about jw's and my current experiences....

I posted this in part on another thread, but am curious to know if anyone else has had experiences with seances.
My mum told me her story:
She was having a seance. It was her aunty May apparantly. Things started getting out of hand. Glasses flew across the room, the table was flipped and my mum was freaking. She screamed the name Jehovah - she'd neva heard it in her life (gran was roman catholic!) and the violence stopped. A few weeks later, she received a visit from the jw's and hasn't looked back.
My sisters story (in part):
When she lived on the streets of Sydney they'd squat and quite a few houses have caused them trouble. Knives thrown at them....footsteps down the corridor...my sister has some freaky bathroom stories too. Anyway she had a seance once and was told that gran was sick inside. Not long after that, she was diagnosed with cancer. She was operated on and went into remission (phew!!).
My story:
My sister and I thought it'd be fun. So for two hours we called and nutting. Finally the glass moves and I start freaking (my first seance and what with my jw background - my sister didn't care...she's bin a street punk since 15). Apparantly it is our Granddad Fred. We ask all sorts of questions. I ask about my past life (yeah right!!! rolls eyes) and I'm told I was a dutch knight (of course! that explains my luv of medievil) and my sister was Madame Blavosky (sic...badly) which she loved seeing as she was big on satanism and wiccan.
Ok so then I ask about my family. Big mistake! Told my gran would die in two months...she did. Fred said he couldn't wait to see her in heaven. Then I ask about mum...she'd live a long and happy life. Bro's and sisters will be fine...we'd be rich. Then my dad - told he'd be dead in six years from his heart. Six years is this year and well I'm freaking cos he is really sick. On a machine at night to help him breath. Only has to do light exercise and gets red and puffed. He is really sick and I am really scared.
This is why I have never doubted that demons exist!
I'd be interested to know if anyone else has had similar experiences.

What "hooked" you?
by roybatty inim not sure if this has been discussed before but id be interested to read some comments from those who became jws later in life.
what caught your attention and sucked you in?.
my parents became jws when i was 5 years old, so it was pretty much the only way of life that i knew.

I was born into it too, but questioned as a teen and left.

I thank my mum for raising me with good morals. My mum has always tried her best to follow the bibles recommendations and she also tried to make us....tho all of us ended up leaving. But, I must say, I got a good start. For the most part I'm a pretty decent person...I think.
But my sister and I are studying again.....

Actually Prisca I have.
Everytime an issue is raised here, I ask her questions. I raised the issue with an elder and when he didn't support me...she did. She wouldn't bat an eyelid if she saw me on tv or walked past a crowd of protesters and saw I was there supporting...it's a worthwhile cause afterall.
She had no idea that Silent Lambs even exist and was deeply upset, she knows how much it affects me. Most Jw's I know have no idea also. It would be a great education to let them know that this sort of this is rampant in the jw's and this could lead to more being viligant and being aware of their children and the people around them.
She was completely shocked too at the pictures in the Paradise book.
Everytime I have a doubt I ask her what she thinks...I'm still very angry about this whole abuse thing...and she is trying to appease me. And I'm trying to appease myself too.
I think an open support network is a great idea to help in the healing process.

Research, JW Style
by DakotaRed inalso from the new school book, on page 33, there is a chapter entitled, "how to do research.
" on the right side of the page, there is a box listing appropriate research material:.
which of these research tools do you have?.

And all the while I've been hearing that the only tool we need to refer to is THE BIBLE - not bible-based aids.

Respect
by In_between_days ini'd like to share with you all a personal experience that i had recently.. i had told a freind about the u.n issue (j.w) and she said to let her know when i got my answer from the governing body about why they joined.. she asked about it, i did not bring it up, and i showed her their response (the standard explanation from brooklyn which you have all seen.).
we then got into a very interesting conversation.. she agreed with me that the explanation was very unacceptable, she did not even try to argue it.. she even accepted that it was wrong of the w.t to do this - i was very surprised.
we got into talking about the governing body, and my problems with it, and she surprised me further when she said that she does not believe that the governing body should be followed or held in as high regard as god or jesus.. she believes that god works through this organisation, but thinks that there are so many problems with j.w's never questioning their stands or logic.

She sounds refreshingly open!
The elders would indeed frown on what she's doing. But she could always justify that she trying to 'reason' with you to bring you back to the fold...that will get them off her back.
I agree with her that others besides just dedicated jw's (face it there ain't any practicing every facet of the religion rigidly - so if God weren't merciful, we'd all perish) - dedicated jw's that committ some rather horrible acts...so if only jw's are to survive, I'm not sure I'm gunna like paradise!!!!!!!!
