  On shunning

  on shunning.. the watchtower basically points to two reasons to shun people:.

  1) it will make the wrongdoer think about their course of life and help them to come back to "the truth".. 2) it will protect your faith in jehovah and will keep you from being stumbled.. i think there are really 2 other reasons.. 1) fear of being shunned themselves for associating with you.. 2) to punish you for not thinking or being like them anymore.

  kind of a revenge thing.

  well, it seems we're back to the same "you're a troll; you're not a troll" thing.

  it seems that my posts make too many of you "uncomfortable," you have an "intuition," you "can't put your finger on it," whatever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

  i thought this was a place where people can post and be heard.

  Hi! Please don't give up-it does get a little hairy here sometimes-just fire right back at'em! Alot of us came here for encouragement and I think at times this forum defeats it's own purpose. Whatever your decision, I wish you well. All I can say to the people who are hasseling you is GET A LIFE!!

  i had a nonreligious email that was just cute and funny and sent it to everyone i considered a friend.

  some were witnesses.

  one gal, sara, sent me a letter of reply.

  indeed... since i decided that i wouldn't be a publisher any longer and make no more talks, i've noticed more people avoiding me, talking less to me, etc.

  i mean, what is this crap?

  i wasn't baptized, i still maintain exemplary behaviour, etc.

  Hey fed up,

  I hear you. I am going through the same crap. Last year, my 12 year old son's best friend was no longer allowed to associate with him. Why? because we were'nt "regular" enough at meetings. His mother however allowed him to associate with another boy in the hall because he WAS regular at meetings. The outcome? The other boy ended up in some serious trouble. My son by the way has never been in trouble and has better moral values than most of the young people who were at the meetings. Twisted huh? In the meantime my son was so devastated that he does not even wan't to attend the Kingdom hall any more. Tragic..... Good luck Fed up. Wish you well!

  I think the fiber optic trees are way cool. I have been thinking myself of sneaking a tree in the house, but someone would see it. My husband and I would love to go christmas crazy and deck out the house, but alas....would cause us much trouble. Maybe eventually.

  I don't know why, but I was thinking about this today and wondering if the Elders and others in the Cong. know you by name or do they know you by category? Let's take a look at these for a moment:

  1. Unbaptized publisher

  2. Approved Associate

  3. Unapproved associate

  4. Publisher

  5. Irregular

  6. Inactive

  7. Marked

  8. Reproved

  9. Disfellowshipped

  10. Apostate

  A name for everything.

  Hi Dim, I agree with you. How many of us put in all those hours of service because we really wanted to or because we loved our fellowman so much? Sure, I did like the idea of helping people or making a positive difference in someone's life. But when we really think about it, what is the underlying motivation? As JWs, we are told that in order to gain everlasting life, we have to preach. We are also taught that it is love of neighbor that is our motivation as well. But, if the Society tommorrow said they had a change of thinking on preaching, and it was no longer a requirement, how many people would "love their neighbor" then??
