i looked it up a few weeks ago and they said "we can be sure he used his fathers name".

for me the argument is more just interesting from a biblical and academic stand point.

But, I mean whatever his name actually was. Like Yahweh, or YHWH and similar. At that time it was considered taboo to use gods name I believe. So did Jesus buck the system and use it or did he not use it in order to appeal to people? Similar to signs saying "Religion is a Snare and a Racket". Those signs don't actually make anyone interested. They instead piss people off and attract attention. Well, would Jesus have used his dads personal name and angered people or bowed to the customs of the times in the hopes of being heard?

I would think if he used his personal name that was taboo, then the religious leaders would have complained loudly. It would seem to me that something like that would be important enough that one of the writers would have mentioned it as well. I just don't see it happening. It's annoying WT makes an assertion as if its a fact with no evidence to support it. But, then again, why would that surprise me!

1914 must go... they have no choice now (at least it would seem)

i am sure this may have been discussed previously and if so just disregard this.. .

as a born-in 1914 is a date stamped into my head that is pretty much the foundation of our religious beliefs.

nearly everything that sets jw's apart from everyone is this date of 1914. forget all the chronology that proves that daniels prophecy and the 2520 years is incorrect - there is far worse damning evidence that makes this date useless and in error.. with the magazine that shines new light on the whole faithful slave thing - charles taze russell is no longer a member of that faithful slave class that jesus is using to feed his people./ by getting rid of russell the no doubt were able to distance themselves from all his crazy ramblings and teachings that are appearing all over the internet.

If they scrapped 1914 then they would have no reason to be who they are. I feel very strongly they cannot scrap it. Just keep saying how close we must be, and discouraging critical thinking.

jdubs are fond of quoting peter "where are we to go lord"... well the answer for me has been this forum for last couple of years which is really sad because i should be able to talk to my lifelong friends instead of faceless avatars.

( don't get me wrong this place has helped me through some really rough times mentally kudos to terry, cedars,slimboyfat, blondie,jwfacts and many others.).

the shun gun has prevented me from making the move completely out of this cult i have given my life to.
