Cedars, Matthew loved prophecies, and making parallels to Jesus. My favorite was pointed out in a book by Bart Erhman. Matthew is using a prophecy that says Jesus would ride into town on a donkey, yes the colt of a she ass or similar wording. Matthew doesn't recognize the poetic wording in the OT and mistranslated and falsifies the account, to say Jesus rode into town straddling both a colt and an ass. Imagine Jesus stretched legs across a tall donkey and little colt riding both together just to fulfill a prophesy. Matthew was very keen to PROVE Jesus fulfilled prophecies. Your posted idea fits this very well.

Any fallout from the "human apostates" convention talk yet?
by cedars inhi folks.
i'm just curious as to whether anyone is experiencing any repercussions following the "human apostates" talk on the saturday of the district convention?.
my relatives will be attending soon, which makes me anxious.

Anderson Cooper was my first thought too. Someone could discuss the hate speech against those who leave as well as against gays.

Gerrit Loesch was at our DC today!
by goatshapeddemon inso, unexpectedly, the final talk was announced today and to my surprise and evil glee, they announced gerrit loesch as the speaker!
first off, at the beginning of his talk, he interrupted himself in the middle of his sentence to scold the microphone brother to lower my mike it's right in my face.. anyway, it was the talk on inspired truth, vs. inspired falsehoods.
he went through 6 expressions inspired by the demons.

I'd love that talk too. Having him say higher education is a conscience matter is a demon inspired expression would actually do it for some of my relatives.

Question for Believers - Why did god "create" poison ivy, poison toad stools, and marijuana?
by Comatose inif he created them, then he would have had to use divine intervention to protect people from eating them or burning them.
even after being told not to and passing that knlowedge on, small children could inadvertently get into poison berries or mushrooms.
what about bacteria that causes extreme stomach problems like giardia?

So toad stools that cause death and poison ivy are explained because god created people who would have health problems, and we just haven't discovered the medicinal benefit yet?
Lost I understand plants are helpful and amazing. I don't get how a believer thinks that god made everything including us perfect humans and poisonous plants.

Infinity and god - why wait to create the universe?
by Simon inhere's the problem with infinity ... we can't comprehend it.. it's bad enough when it's space, but when it's time as well and then we throw in some all powerful creature supposedly existing forever ... well, it just doesn't make sense and raises questions.. such as why wait?
why didn't god create the universe the day before he did?
or the day before that?

Yeah, I agree with Tal and BOTR. Marijuana was on the list simply because its bad according to WT. But, obviously not a poison. Jesus cried in sadness, became enraged and violent, and got weak according to the bible. Good points made there.
But, again... Why the poison plants?

lol - yeah it's why I post here and don't talk about reality.
It just seems so obvious. Why can't everyone see it? Also interesting is that not one believer replied to the question. I don't know if it is because they have no answer or because they are tired of discussing?
If god created things perfectly and saw they were good then why would he change it later so that snakes ate dirt and lions ate straw???

Sir82 - I know you are just parroting the JW response, and I am not arguing with you here, but just that logic.
A JW (or fundy for that matter) response:
Ever since man was cast out of the garden of Eden, he has been living out of harmony with nature. It was never God's will for man to sin and thus be exposed to those things. A perfect man would not react negatively when exposed to poison ivy, poisonous toad stools, marijuana, etc. Unfortunately, in our imperfect sinful state, our bodies are not sufficiently equipped to deal properly with those things.
All will be wonderful again when the earth is transformed into a paradise. We'll be perfect, with perfect immune systems, and thus will be able to eat poison ivy salads with a toadstool milkshake if we like.
The response does not hold water. Because of other "created" things like Cane toads which kill almost all animals who eat them. Why the need for that protection mechanism if no predators exist?
Similarly, those plants mentioned above kill and affect animals as well. So, it isn't mans punishment or mans lack of perfection. It's poison and it kills. He made plants that kills animals too.

Even after being told not to and passing that knlowedge on, small children could inadvertently get into poison berries or mushrooms. What about bacteria that causes extreme stomach problems like Giardia? Did it evolve or did he create it? Black mold is deadly and if not deadly it makes you sick.
Sooner or later someone was going to gather up some chopped down "weeds" and burn them in a brush pile. A few hours later and giggling, they would be devouring fruits and vegetables. And wondering what the heck just happened. Someone would likewise eventually burn tobacco and like the smell. The list goes on as long as you want.
Why would an omniscient, omnipotent, and perfect god create things he would then have to shield his creations from?
