It's easy for thinking persons to see the shell games being played, but remember that those still in have been taught not to think. The best thing any one of us can do is to calmly and lovingly teach reasoning and thinking skills to our friends and family. Planting little seeds can produce mighty trees...

Will firing the DOs be the first step to a new Watchtower?
by Juan Viejo2 inagainst my better judgement, i've decided to share the following as a response to guy pierce passing and the announcement of the elimination of district overseers later this year.. late in january (2014) i got an email from one of my contacts (a fader) who served at bethel for several years, but is no longer at wt hq.
he still has a lot of close contacts within the service department and in other departments at patterson and knows people in all of the ny offices.
i kept this email set aside on a flash drive and haven't shared it with anyone - figuring i'd publish an article about it later this year when i had more time to do it right.

Just got a call from an elder
by nolongerconfused inso i faded over a year ago...i told the elders that if i needed them i would call them.
1 year and 3 months later, today, i get a call from an elder who used to be my good friend...he calls and i dont pick up..he leaves a voicemail, saying "hello ____, please call me back at 444-444-4444 whenever you can".
i was like wow, this has to be one of those calls to get inactive ones back to the memorial.

Data_Dog is right, they are having the life sucked out of them and probably at a faster pace than the troops. If they can't show Love, then we should, but only in the way we respond....not by stepping into a (shudder) back room or attending their services. By your kindness, let them see that life is indeed better and kinder Outside.

Scientology is a Lot Like Watchtower in Breaking Up Family
by OnTheWayOut ini saw this on facebook and knew it should be here.
while i am confident that my jw loved ones wouldn't take a look at it, maybe someone here can show it to their jw's and they will see how shunning family is awful when they are looking at a situation exactly like that of watchtower.. a report at http://jehovahswitnessreport.com/blog/scientology-and-watchtower-strange-bedfellows.
mentions this abc good morning america story:.

Any religion which promotes shunning can in no way be connected to the love of God or the Universe. Shunning is all about Control...not Love!

My Daughter Begins to Reason on Her Own About the Witnesses
by losingit insuccess!.
today my oldest daughter attended her first birthday party ever for one of her best friends at school.
we actually crashed because we didn't get an official invite or even an email, but it ended up working out and the mom was happy to have us there.

So happy to hear this, thank you for sharing! Gives those of us with (grown) children still "in" some hope for the future.

Now if someone could just get Joe Childs to write the same type of story about jw shunning...because people don't have a clue about what really goes on in jw-land. I've spoken to a couple of (gasp) worldly friends and they were both absolutely shocked at the mind control and family fracturing that happens. Wouldn't it be something to see it written up in a national newspaper?

Over 7yrs as a JW and I just found out I'm not supposed to buy Girl Scout Cookies?
by Maat13 ini'm still in the matrix(the truth), but 'morpheus' and his team are valiantly working on a way to get me out.
in the meantime, everyday i am discovering so much about being a jw i never knew, like don't buy girl scout cookies, that i keep asking myself "what have i got myself into".. maat.
really lame for a first post, but i figure i should start some where.

My pio daughter bought GS cookies from the little neighbor girl...I was thrilled to see her "stepping outside the box" as she's usually so "by the book". I'm hoping that my more open way of thinking is finally making an impact!

St Pete has its good points but Sarasota is the best. Great schools, best beaches, lots of jobs (depending on your field, of course). Best wishes on your move!

Do you pray over your meals? If so why? If not, when did you stop and why?
by BU2B into answer my question, no i do not pray over meals anymore exept for when i am with other jws i do a 15 second head bow for appearances sake.
i just came to the realization god had nothing to do with whether i ate or not.
many believers are starving right now whilst many non-believers are eating like kings.. also why should god give me food while he lets little children in dprk concentration camps starve to death.

As JWs we used to make fun of the Baptists for their "showy displays" of praying out loud in restaurants. Yet how is everyone at our table bowing their heads and silently praying NOT a showy display? Oh, look at us, we are sooo spiritual and therefore better than you. Ridiculous. Thanks be to the Universe for showing us real truth. Amen!

Do you think that the WT has gotten stranger as time goes by or is it that with distance comes perspective?
by 4thgen inthe preaching the jw.org thing is so strange.
the two generations "new light" is crazy.
but then again i look back at some of the things i believed and taught wonder 'what was i thinking'?

It's always been weird from a thinking person's point of view, which is why we were taught not to think but to robotically answer the WT study questions with answers straight from the paragraph...but if you were really spiritual, you had to spew it in your own words, with additional comments to show everyone how much research you had done. The only weird thing is that we didn't get gold stars on our papers!
I agree, though, that the tone has turned to Unquestionable Obedience of not just the FDS, but your local Elders who are, after all, appointed by HS. Never could buy that!
Didn't we used to hear that Jesus was leading the congregations? Jesus is no longer in the WT picture, and the actions of those in control wield totally UNloving and UNChrist-like power.
If God is Love, then he seems visibly absent from the WT and the JW congregations.
My story: single mom, never supported by the elders in any way, now a professional fader...hoping desperatly to get my adult daughters away from the Abusive WT Beast I introduced them to...how's that for a guilt load to carry?
