Which is precisely why I don't go into those types of threads. No offense meant - I just figure it's not for me......no big deal. If someone (or no one) else wants to read them? Fine. This is an open forum, not just for atheists.

I'm a devout "Don't know & don't care right now" person myself. But some of my family's decided to be devout christians and others devout atheists. I think "devout" is the keyword. Don't really care for "devout" if it infringes on my "don't care."

And I don't think you do - at least not regularily. You post, and if one doesn't want to answer back (or even read it) - one doesn't have to. Hell, I assume people do that all the time to my posts.

Take care - and you really are interesting in many aspects. I loved your account on attending the Memorials at the KH and "partaking of the emblems."

I was in a lower-style store in town here and in the fitting room was this sign: "Please do not urinate in here."

I couldn't believe it. Gross!!!!!!!!!! I asked the attendant about it - and she said 'Yep. Some do."

Gross!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's the only store I've ever been in and saw that kind of sign.

vicki boer vs watchtower new information

last week my lawyer appealed the judges decision , based on the fact that we are not sure what will happen with costs.

now that we have appealed, the watchtower also cross appealed with 10 pages of why the "judge erred".

looks like this has openned a whole can of worms.

The watchtower feels that the $5000.00 decision was "excessive". They also think that the judge erred in her finding that " the plantiff felt she had no choice but to follow the process directed by the jw elders"" "the judge erred in finding that there was a duty of care imposed on the defendant wt." ..the judge erred "in finding that the plaintiff had been forbidden to develop relationships with anyone outside the faith and had been trained to obey the elders without question and that disobeying the elders was literally inconceivable to the plaintiff at the time." These are just a few points they make. There are 20 or more points.

There is a reason the WT is being termed a cult in the manner of Scientology........they both use brute force and major money to keep their followers in line and quiet. You had the audacity to challenge the WTBTS. YOU WON.

I suspect if the judge had awarded you $5.00.....the WT would have appealed anyway. YOU WON - and you may have set precidents that the WTBTS will have to monitarily swallow for decades.

As for the *supposed* errors? It's the lawyers jobs to pick apart - to slice & kill, no matter which side of the case one finds themself. There's a reason it's called an "adversarial system" (if my spelling is correct anyway).

The WTBTS really has no alternative but to fight & appeal - because YOU WON - and they know it. It could cost them millions later on, if they don't fight.

Having children later in life........my dilemma

now, you might be wondering why a 26 year old guy like me would start a thread about experiencing a dilemma with having children later in life.

sure, i know i'm still relatively young and, for all i know, could have a kid before i'm thirty (i currently have no children.....that i know of anyway want to have children -- for a long time!

BTW I used a wheelchair in the hospital. I had to walk halfway through the hospital to get one but once I got it I used it. Good thing too because I had to go through this maze of hallways around all sorts of construction and detours. Not one twitch of guilt either - was kinda fun and I didn't run anyone over - not even a dent in the wall - lee

We had frigid winters in Indiana sometimes (I know....not as bad as yours, but bad enough). No pants. But long skirts & coats were in style........and we wore those pantyhose-kinda-leggings that looked like knee-socks with high boots. They were great and warm. In fact, I knew sisters who wore ski-pants under their long skirts with high boots. Unless she was dumb enough to tell someone, nobody knew.

Down in SC? Pantyhose hot and sticky. Our elders were/are very provincial - sisters wore hose to show proper respect for The Work. Didn't like to see no bare toes. Jerks.

One sister was so cute at our book study. She was heavy & had many physical problems. One week she wore nice, new, totally white (conservative) tennis shoes with cute little white ankle socks with a long skirt & white blouse. Several sisters complimented her, as you could tell she was trying. Well, the next week she told me that an elder *suggested* she not wear that outfit again. It wasn't appropriate for a Bible Book Study Meeting held in a converted garage.

There were sooooooooo many stupid rules.

good point about "stuffing emotions down." Real jw's with problems who must look - and *be* happy - would have to do that. Most of us did that.

I know this mother sounds terrible..........but she's also expressing her sorrow of what's she's given up for her peception of being faithful to Jehovah. She's tragically trying to tow the line. Like cutting off one's arm because it would prove your faithfulness. It might prove you're faithful - and it will prove you to be intentionally self-maimed for the rest of your life....but it doesn't prove you're right.

I suspect she might think about her situation more than she lets on. It might not be enough to allow her love to surface, but it's just a shame. Her daughter's lost her mother........but the mother's given up so much too....for nothing.

They're both victims of being entwined with a cult. Thankfully, the daughter left. Perhaps the mother will too?
