I really dont understand why people here are always acting as though Serena and Venus Williams are hypocrites because they call themselves JW's and act/dress as they do. - flower

I haven't read where the Williams sisters were ever accused of being hypocrites - but many of us believe the WTBTS is hypocritical in their treatment of these jw sisters.

As for the girls, good for them for doing what they want to do regardless of man made rules. Obviously they are not brainwashed into caring what Jehovah thinks. Good for them.

Agreed! I hope that these women are used as a role model for other JW children - what can be accomplished. However.............I've heard several parents make comments like:

"they aren't REAL witnesses."

"Society can't do anything to them because of the publicity."

"We can assume that these worldly girls are marked within their congregation."

That's an unprovable statement. Nope - never have seen that - or heard of "good, spiritual, sisters" wearing bikini's cut as low as the Williams woman is doing. Perhaps you're referring to "spiritually weak sisters?" lol - in any case - jw's make a habit of judging.

May these talented women enjoy their freedom & accomplishments.

hey dubla,

it sure looks like its going to be bush vs. kerry, and as im sure you know, kerry believed, just as bush did, that saddam had wmd......that fact is well documented.

If it is well documented - then the people I've listened to who are sooooooo against Bush (primarily because of the war) haven't read what you've read - because they're planning on voting anything that moves Democratic - just to get Bush out.

I'm just listening/reading at this point - but is there a place where this documentation can be found?

lol - If Serena showed up at any swim gathering of jw's (where adults were present and/or just as judgemental younger persons) - she would be *marked* as "unsuitable association."

Nothing's wrong with the way she's dressed in this picture.

What's wrong is the average jw female couldn't get away with wearing the same thing - let alone pictured in a national magazie.

What's really wrong is it's ok for Serena - but damned for another jw female to do same thing.

Money/power/public image are still the most important things - the WTBTS & Jehovah's Witnesses are no different.

raised a jw, stayed in out of fear, painted myself into a corner and currently struggling to get out completely.

i know lots of people would say they don't respect someone who knows they don't want to stay but is staying for other reasons, like family & friends or whatever.

Did your Parents name you after a Bible character ..... or ..........

having been here for a few years, and corresponding privately with some of you i have noticed a lot of us have names that are from the bible.. so without giving too much away about yourselves :.

did your parents give you a name based on a bible character?.

did they do this while they were jws?.

On of my son's friends (Jewish) asked if he was Jewish also.....with such a manly Jewish name (thanks to moi). Aaron told him his middle name - and guy said "You MUST be Jewish!"

Then Aaron told him his brother's first & middle name - and the guy was floored with our Jewish authenticity -- even though we're Irish/English/Scottish/Osage Indian.

Then Aaron told him his older sister's first & middle name - and the guy just stood there saying "whaaaaaaaa?" My son responded......."yeah, mom was still in her hippie era - before the jw's got her good."

"HERE?" - as opposed to other sites? Who knows. I think people tend to lurk a little before posting....and hopefully, this place represents a kinda safe enviroment for them to get their feet wet.

I've read it argued that there's no good threads over here anymore - that it's fluff & "KH" driven. Not so! There's been some great threads here & fluff, even within the last week.

There are other sites who offer different atmospheres which might suit some posters. Great!

May we all grow with jw's & xjw's - enabling ourselves to choose to stay or leave, here, other places & the WT. And may we all learn to be "civil" with each other - as we most likely would be in "Real Life."

YES! The internet is hurting the WTBTS & helping thousands (maybe millions) of Jehovah's Witnesses learn The Truth about the cult they belong to.....like we used to be.

Or, unpaid salespersons of the WTBTS PUBLISHING Corporation.
