Has the Governing Body Become More or Less Authoritarian in Recent Years?
by cofty init seems to me that this is a no-brainer but i have been out since '96.. so based on your personal experiences what do you think?.
lots more - a bit more - just the same as always - less - a lot less?.
if you think more or lots more can you spot a time or event when it started to change?.

The "governing body" are much more controlling than ever before and this has filtered down to the elders and to many within the congregation,I think thats why the Tuesday group was stopped because people could meet in a private home and discuss bible topics freely and there was no "editorial" control whereas in the hall the elders and their "servants" could control what was being said and by whom. I stopped hearing "the bible says" and started hearing ( in that irritating sing song voice) "the society says" ugh!

We have one here in the tiniest of towns and they just look like some old dear has abandoned her shopping trolley, the witnesses hide in shop doorways and there they stay because no one ever goes near the trolley,I passed it on Saturday and the elder and his wife who were standing in a doorway looked like rabbits caught in the headlamps when they saw myself and my daughter, you could see them thinking...shall we speak shall we ignore her...they didnt get the chance WE ignored them !! So unproductive, so idle.

Tech49 has the CO over for lunch
by Tech49 inso awhile back, during our last circuit overseer visit, vic and i decided to bite the bullet.... there seemed to be very little support for the mid-week lunch plans for the co and his wife, so we signed up to host.
we definitely didnt want it to be awkward, so we invited a few others along, as a nice little group affair.
they were excited, and offered to do the cooking, so i said i would play along.. just some background.... this particular co is kind of a tool (big surprise right?

We had one CO come to visit and I offered to do the lunch for him and his wife, and when I asked him if there was anything he didnt like (I meant food) he said "I dont like being hungry!" I watched him shoveling the food down himself, and I thought to myself,"this man is digging his own grave with a knife and fork and I am helping him" and yes, he died of a heart attack a year later.

Witnesses: Why The 1/19/14 WT Lesson Is Dangerous
by Apognophos intoday's watchtower lesson touched on the history of hezekiah's reign, and then made a surprising modern-day application.
having used my time before the meeting to research the underlying material instead of highlighting my magazine, i personally found this to be an upsetting study, and decided to put this warning here in the hopes that some active witnesses read it.. the most important thing i want to say to you is that the actual flow of events in this bible account were severely misrepresented, and that there are some disturbing implications in the distortions that were made.
1. hezekiah's father ahaz makes himself a vassal to assyria out of fear of their overwhelming might (2 kings 16:7, 8).. 2. upon becoming king, hezekiah rebels against assyria (2 kings 18:7).

An excellent well researched summary of the article, but sadly I dont think many even understand what has been written, they will just accept "the societys" viewpoint. Classic case of blind obedience. Been there, done that, so glad were out.

I agree with "finally awake" my son in laws parents wont speak to him either because he does not attend meetings,he is angry and hurt and blames "this terrible religeon" but sadly the truth is they themselves are choosing to ignore him,see me walking past my kids in the street ?,never in a million years!

Feeling Disfellowshipped
by meep5 inlet me briefly explain my back-story: i grew up in a jw household and was technically a jw until 20 years old.
i stopped attending meetings in 1998 and told my parents i was done in 1999. i'm not sure where i saw my future when i was 19 but i know for a fact i didn't see myself as a "witness" then.
i hated the hypocrisy and the extreme gossip.
