  Sick. I had to step away from my desk after this one. How can this type of treatment EVER be called love? I agree that this is abusive. Emotional abuse at its finest.

  My nephew was baptized at the age of 8 (maybe 10) years old. He is born in and is in a foreign language congregation. He barely understands the language and cannot even hold a conversation in the language. But he was baptized at an early age. Now that he has 'sinned', he was reproved, almost df. He potentially could of lost contact with his entire family because of a decision that was made for him when he was 8 years old.

  This religion is sick. It entraps people into servitude. You can never leave without at least some consequence. Just like the picture said.. Why wasn't I told that I could lose my entire family if I got baptized?

  If you need a dedicated BD player, try Oppo Digital. They are pricy but I've heard nothing but good things. Of course a PS4 is also great and you can do other things besides Blu-Ray on it. If price is a concern, like NVR2L8 said, a cheap Sony, Samsung, or Panasonic will do.

  I heard it mentioned that you actually need to be "trained" to take the cart out. Is that true? And that you need to be in good standing? Or some such nonsense. What's so hard/important about standing around next to a cart doing jack that I need to be trained and in good standing to do it?

  A Question for Underground Apostates, How Many Are There?

  when i first came to this forum i was of the belief that those of us who were still in due to family reasons were few in numbers perhaps one in a thousand in the jws.

  soon i came to the realization that there were many more.

  we have dozens of posters here who are mentally out but still in.

  I've been mentally out probably for well over 5 years, but only learned TTATT about 2 years ago. I'm still in but have been out in fs only once since 2011. I still regularly put down a few hours and mag placements every month.. just because I can. My wife is very much in but needs me to be gungho to be gungho herself. We have sort of an uneasy balance right now. We both go to meetings but are irregular, about 50% I'd say. I guess I am what jwland would call apostate but I just don't want to lose my family and live a lie at the same time. As long as people leave me alone, I'm fine right where I am.

  first post on here.

  i've been lurking for 3-4 years and i mean i've been a mega lurker, doing marathon reading sessions for months or weeks.. sometimes i proceed by researching specific topics, or posters; other times just reading current discussions.

  i'm particularly fond of "old" post, i.e 10-12-15 years ago.. i have laughed, smiled, got mad, cried etc, just reading some threads here.. as you can see i suffer from some kind of "accute lurkitis".

  Welcome Tempest! I'm also very intrigued by this:

  I don't plan to leave the jws.

  I've always thought that this might be the path for me.. at least the one of less resistance. I don't mind attending the meetings with my wife. I also don't mind turning in a time slip (5 hours every month event though I've been out in FS once in the past 2 years). The problem I foresee is when all of this comes to a head. I have honestly come to the point where I no longer mind the idea of losing my hard core mom/dad/sibling(s). But, we'll see. For now, I've found a happy equilibrium that I hope does not change.

  i've always suspected this was the wt society's view when i was in the jehovah's witness organization - but never knew the head of the writing committee karl adams had written a letter to nathan knorr ( then wt president ) recommending a change regarding reporting field service time as it wrongly emphasized jw members being seen as mainly being approved due to field service statistics - instead of emphasizing christian qualities of love, kindness, peace, etc.. karl adams had been personally handpicked by nathan knorr to be the head of the writing department.

  in 1971 he wrote a letter to knorr which he wanted shared with the entire governing body as well .

  @Dozy You are 100% correct about JW being like an MLM. I felt weird and uncomfortable when I first realized this. And I hate fs. Counting time is stupid. If all I have to do is turn in time to be righteous, why do I need to go out at all. I'll just put 10 hours, 6 mags, and 2 rv on my slip at the end of the month and leave it at that.

  oh my word it is full of fear inducing tactics....doom and gloom outlooks.... anxiety inducing methods to develop absolute control over witnesses and cripple them in any attempt to think for themselves!.

  I never felt more horrified and stupid than at the meeting this past Sunday. One comment at the watchtower study on the basement pic was that "we needed to get to know each and every one of our brothers and sisters individually because we won't know how long we'll be together in the basement." I couldn't help but shake my head at that one. I feel embarrassed for my family for buying into this nonsense.
